  • This study was designed to identify the Attitude toward Engineering and Teacher Efficacy of pre-service teachers of engineering department, evaluate the validity of the difference and inquire into correlation between the Attitude toward Engineering and Teacher Efficacy. The study results are as follows. First, the Attitude toward Engineering of pre-service teachers of engineering department turned out to be 2.94, which is below average(3.00), and a bit lower figure than that of Teacher Efficacy(M=3.34). Second, there was no significant difference between the Attitude toward Engineering and Teacher Efficacy in a gender factor. In case of a major factor and grade variables, there was significant difference between Attitude toward Engineering and teaching efficacy of Teacher Efficacy. Third, as a result of analysis on the correlation between Attitude toward Engineering and Teacher Efficacy, it turned out that there was significant difference between in sub-area a few, which leads to conclusion that the attitude toward engineering and Teacher Efficacy will be gradually improved if educational institutes training pre-service teachers of engineering department operate teacher education courses considering major characteristics and learners' levels and give successful guidance to pre-service teachers. In addition, since the gender factor didn't make any significant difference between the attitude toward engineering and Teacher Efficacy, there is no need to develop and operate separate educational programs only for female or male pre-service teachers.

  • Purpose Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major pathogen in both adults and children, causing significant morbidity and mortality In patients with nephrotic syndrome, Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major cause of spontaneous peritonitis, and the increasing incidence of penicillin-resistance strain facilitates the development of effective vaccine. The limitation of current pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine prompted development of polysaccharide- protein conjugate vaccine. Methods: We reviewed the medical record of total 225 steroid responsive nephrotic patients to ascertain the effectiveness of 23- valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine. Results. Twenty- eight patients have developed peritonitis during the courses, and 7 of those have recurrent peritonitis. Fifty- five patients were vaccinated and followed- up for 1- 108 months (mean 38.5 months), and during the follow- up period, pneumococcus related peritonitis was not detected. Vaccine- related relapse of nephrotic syndrome w as absent. Conclusion: In spite of the non- consensus about the efficacy of PPV23, clinically it benefits, and until the clinical trial of PCV7 is completed, PPV23 will be recommended. • To approach science education for all which has been required in STS program, it is indispensable to develop variously differentiated education courses that are suitable for various students. In order to do that, we have to abstract essential items that are dealt with in common from science textbook which is regarded as the kernel of science education. Then, these items are developed by fitting for each level-STS science study models. The purpose of this study is to improve the level-based investigation competence by applying these models to various level learning. We obtained some results as the following: First, there has been a positive change for attitude to study science in part. Second, we find the materials in our life and this study is relating to science, technique and society. So we find out the fact that there is close connection between science technique and our life. And also it helps encourage to learn. Third, in the process of searching for and producing STS materials, students have a chance to study for themselves by working out self-leading research activity. Finally, students can reduce a preconception that science is difficult by encouraging attitudes to search for and make our problems in our life scientifically and the habits thinking of and understanding our daily life itself in the scientific sight.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine school-level science elective-centered curriculum operation and teachers' perception of their instruction of elective-centered science courses. Data were collected from 12 science teachers in 12 high schools in the metropolitan Seoul area through semi-constructed interviews. The results showed that students were supposed to select science subjects under insufficient guidance and their choices on subject were also restricted due to school administrative processes such as teacher's instructional time allocation. Participants were well-perceived different group characteristics among humanities course and science course students toward science learning, still, they felt difficulties in valuing students' variety by differentiating contents and teaching methodologies due to school assessment system and workload of extra instructional material preparation. Influenced by the current college entrance examination system, low motivation for humanities course students and students' choice concentrated in chemistry and life science for science course students, were pointed out as main problems. As a way to improve science education for 11th - 12th graders, developing customized science curriculum for humanities course and science course respectively, changing of entrance system into increasing importance of science for students who will major in non-science fields, and designations of essential prerequisite science subject for students who will major in engineering & science fields, were suggested.

  • Recently, Korean universities have experienced steady decline in enrollments in MIS majors, which raises a serious concern to both academia and business leaders as well. With roles of MIS in corporate worlds are expanding and demands for newer breeds of MIS graduates ever growing, this trend, also observed in the US, poses a puzzling yet interesting research agenda. To come to grips with the problem and to suggest a robust curricula model for the future, this paper approaches the problem from various angles. The model first examines perceptions on MIS of Korean students; it then delineates existing curricula models to identify core MIS courses. The compilation is then juxtaposed by MIS course information from major US and Korean colleges, leading to categorizing major MIS subfields. The paper then tries to identify as-is and desired status of MIS curriculum, based on inquiry results from both academia and IS practitioners. Together with career tracks concretely described in this paper, the model would serve to fill the perception gaps in and to meet the future goals for MIS education in Korea.

  • The era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is increasingly demanding mathematical competencies for virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI) and the like. In this context, this study intended to identify the basic mathematical competency levels of university freshman students in radiology department and to provide basic data thereon. For this, the diagnostic assessment of basic learning competencies for the domain of mathematics was conducted from June 17, 2019 to June 28, 2019 among 78 freshman students of radiology department at S university and D university. As a result, the university students' overall basic mathematical competency levels were diagnosed to be excellent. However, their levels in the sectors of the geometry and vector and the probability and statistics were diagnosed to be moderate, with the mean scores of 2.61 points and 2.64 points, respectively, which were found to be lower than those of the other sections. As for basic mathematical competency levels according to genders, the levels of male students and female students were diagnosed to be excellent, with the mean scores of 17.48 points and 16.29 points, respectively, showing no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Given the small number of subjects and regional restriction, there might be some limitations in the generalization of the findings of the present study to all university freshman students and all departments. The above results suggest that it is necessary to implement various programs such as student level-based special lectures for enhancing basic mathematical competencies relating to major in order to improve the basic mathematical competencies of freshman students in radiology department, and that it is necessary to increase the students' mathematical competencies by offering major math courses in the curriculum and applying teaching-learning methods matching students' levels.

  • Recently, new teaching methods for communicating with teachers and students have been emerged according to the trends of decreasing the school-age population and the development of the mass media. We have applied teaching-learning model based on the flip learning to the college students in this work. As a result of the test for the customized flipped learning teaching-learning model in pre-class, the attendance rate of the major subject was 92.3% whereas that in liberal arts courses other than majors revealed 87.6%. This result for attendance rate shows that first year students in the radiology department have been actively participated in pre-class of the major subject than that of the liberal arts curriculum. From comparing the differences between the study group that was applied flipped learning in class and the non-applied group, the research group showed higher scores in knowledge, skills, and attitudes than the comparative group. In addition, more than 90% of the learners improved their responsibility, problem solving ability, creative thinking, cooperative ability, and communication ability through this learning program. From the test for the difference in the role of radiologists in the post class, the mean score was 4.40 for the group applied the teaching-learning model while that for non-applied group was 2.10. Hence, from such results, we see that this teaching-learning model is appropriate and needs to be extended to cultivate basic skills in radiology and relevant vocational education.
