  • Dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging plays an important role in non-invasive detection and characterization of primary and metastatic lesions in the liver. Recently, efforts have been made to improve spatial and temporal resolution of DCE liver MRI for arterial phase imaging. Review of recent publications related to arterial phase imaging of the liver indicates that there exist primarily two approaches: breath-hold and free-breathing. For breath-hold imaging, acquiring multiple arterial phase images in a breath-hold is the preferred approach over conventional single-phase imaging. For free-breathing imaging, a combination of three-dimensional (3D) stack-of-stars golden-angle sampling and compressed sensing parallel imaging reconstruction is one of emerging techniques. Self-gating can be used to decrease respiratory motion artifact. This article introduces recent MRI technologies relevant to hepatic arterial phase imaging, including differential subsampling with Cartesian ordering (DISCO), golden-angle radial sparse parallel (GRASP), and X-D GRASP. This article also describes techniques related to dynamic 3D image reconstruction of the liver from golden-angle stack-of-stars data.

  • Magnetic properties of nanostructured materials are affected in complicated manner by their microstructure such as grain size, internal strain and crystal structure. Thus, studies on the synthesis of nanostructured materials with controlled microstructure are necessary for a significant improvement in magnetic properties. It is well known that when Fe-Co alloy undergoes ordering transformation, soft magnetic properties could be obtained. There are many reports that the magnetic properties of the materials can be changed with variation of grain size. In the present work, nanostructured Fe-50at.%Co alloy powder produced by hydrogen reduction process (HRP) starting with two oxide powder mixtures of $Fe_2O_3\;and\; Co_3O_4$. The mean grain size of the HRP powders was about 40 nm and coercivity of the: powders was about 43 Oe.

  • We have investigated the Mn concentration-dependent structural, optical, magnetic properties in IV-VI diluted magnetic semiconductor $Si_{1-x}Mn_xTe_{1.5} $ crystals prepared by the vertical Bridgman technique. X-ray studies showed the single crystalline hexagonal crystal structure. From the optical absorption measurements energy band gap were found to decreases with increasing x and temperature. From the magnetization measurements the samples had ferromagnetic ordering with Curie temperature $T_C$ about 80 K. With increasing Mn concentration, the average magnetic moments per Mn atom determined from the saturated magnetization increased.

  • By means of adding B into Sendust alloy (Fe-Si-Al) with state of amorphous ribbon, mechnical properties of alloy was improved effectively, and magnetic properties didn't decrease obviously. The optimum adding quantity of B is 0.015-0.03 wt%. The adding of B was thought to give rise to reduction of ordering degree of $Fe_{3}(Si,Al)$ phase of Sedust alloy(Fe-Si-Al-B) and result in improvment of embrittlement of this alloy.

  • We have investigated the finite temperature magnetic ordering in the quasi-two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnetic system $(C_nH{2n+1}NH_3)_2MnCl_4$ with various chain lengths n. Our results far the transition temperatures and the exchange energies for long chain compounds are in marked contrast to previous expectations.

  • Recently half-metallic full-Heusler alloy films have attracted significant interests for spintronics devices. As these alloys have been known to have a high spin polarization, very large TMR ratio is expected in magnetic tunnel junctions. Among these alloys, $Co_2MnSi$ full-Heusler alloy with a high spin polarization and a high Curie temperature is considered a good candidate as an electrode material for spintronic devices. In this study, the magnetic and structural properties of $Co_2MnSi$ Heusler alloy films were investigated. TMR characteristics of magnetic tunnel junctions with a $Co_2MnSi/SiO_2/CoFe$ structure were studied. A maximum MR ratio of 39% with $SiO_2$ substrates and 27% with MgO(100) substrates were obtained. The lower MR ratio than expectation is considered due to off-stoichiometry and atomic disorder of $Co_2MnSi$ electrode together with oxidation of the electrode layer.

  • We reported compositional separation(CS) into Co-enriched and Cri-enriched components inside the grains of Co-Cr based thin films prepared by rf sputtering. CS strongly depends on the sputtering conditions of substrate temperature and target composition. Tuning the microstructure of the Co-Cr films is important in order to employ the CS for high-density magnetic recording. We investigated the origin of CS from thermodynamic viewpoint. We employ a spinodal decomposition-like model to describe the origin of the CS in Co-Cr films. We consider the total free energy of the Co-Cr films as the sum of several free energies of; 1) thermodynamic mixing entropy of a binary solid solution, 2) magnetic ordering interaction(MOI) energy below the Curie temperature, and 3) excess interaction energy(XS) caused by the sputtering process as a function of temperature and composition. Those energies distorted the total free energy like the spinodal decomposition and caused the compositionally separated fine microstructure inside the grains. If the second derivative of the total free energy with respect to Cr composition becomes negative at a given substrate temperature, we may observe a metastable compositional separation inside the Co-Cr alloy films. We expect to exploit the microstructure of CS for ultra-high density magnetic recording.
