  • Excessive weight gain in children diagnosed with celiac disease (CD) is becoming more common. We describe 2 siblings (9-year and 6 months-old female and 6-year and 9 months-old male) with obesity showing attenuated gastrointestinal and atypical symptoms in which CD was diagnosed in the absence of a known family history of CD. After children's diagnosis, CD in their parents was also investigated. It was detected in their father affected by overweight. The presentation of patients with CD has changed. While patients with overweight and obesity commonly have symptoms such as abdominal pain, reflux, headache, and constipation due to lifestyle factors, CD should also be considered in patients with or without a family history of CD. Careful nutritional status assessment and follow-up monitoring after the diagnosis of CD are mandatory, especially in subjects who are already overweight at the presentation of this disease.

  • BEST family is a class of Ca2+-activated Cl- channels evolutionary well conserved from bacteria to human. The human BEST paralogs (BEST1-BEST4) share significant amino acid sequence homology in the N-terminal region, which forms the transmembrane helicases and contains the direct calcium-binding site, Ca2+-clasp. But the cytosolic C-terminal region is less conserved in the paralogs. Interestingly, this domain-specific sequence conservation is also found in the BEST1 orthologs. However, the functional role of the C-terminal region in the BEST channels is still poorly understood. Thus, we aimed to understand the functional role of the C-terminal region in the human and mouse BEST1 channels by using electrophysiological recordings. We found that the calcium-dependent activation of BEST1 channels can be modulated by the C-terminal region. The C-terminal deletion hBEST1 reduced the Ca2+-dependent current activation and the hBEST1-mBEST1 chimera showed a significantly reduced calcium sensitivity to hBEST1 in the HEK293 cells. And the C-terminal domain could regulate cellular expression and plasma membrane targeting of BEST1 channels. Our results can provide a basis for understanding the C-terminal roles in the structure-function of BEST family proteins.

  • We consider the hp-version to solve non-constant coefficient elliptic equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions on a bounded, convex polygonal domain $\Omega$ in $R^{2}.$ To compute the integrals in the variational formulation of the discrete problem we need the numerical quadrature rule scheme. In this paler we consider a family $G_{p}= {I_{m}}$ of numerical quadrature rules satisfying certain properties. When the numerical quadrature rules $I_{m}{\in}G_{p}$ are used for calculating the integrals in the stiffness matrix of the variational form we will give its variational fore and derive an error estimate of ${\parallel}u-\tilde{u}^h_p{\parallel}_0,{\Omega}'$.

  • Asteroid specimens of the genus Diplopteraster were collected by trawling nets at a depth of 93 m on 05 November 2016 from the Korea Strait ($33^{\circ}41^{\prime}N$, $127^{\circ}26^{\prime}E$). The specimens were identified as Diplopteraster multipes(M. Sars, 1866), which belongs to the family Pterasteridae, order Velatida. This species is similar to other Diplopteraster species in its pentagonal stellate shape, but is distinguished by having each paxilla composed of a protruded spine, more than eight spiracles, and regularly reticulated muscular bands. It is not commonly found in shallow water. This is the first report of the genus Diplopteraster and D. multipes in Korea.

  • The design of large family size with the optimal cross-correlation property is important in spread spectrum and code division multiple access communication systems. In this paper we present the sequences with the decimation $d=2{\cdot}2^m-1$, calculate the cross-correlation spectrum for $0{\leq}t{\leq}2^n-2$ and count the number of the value $2^m-1$ occurring for $0{\leq}{\tau}2^n-2$. The sequences have the optimal cross-correlation property. The work on this paper can make it easier to count the number of the whole value occurring for $0{\leq}{\tau}2^n-2$.

  • In this article, we consider the problem on finding non-degenerate nary m-ic forms having an $n{\times}n$ matrix A as a linear isomorphism. We show that it is equivalent to solve a linear diophantine equation. In particular, we find all integral ternary cubic forms having A as a linear isomorphism, for any $A{\in}GL_3({\mathbb{Z}})$. We also give a family of non-degenerate cubic forms F such that F(x) = N always has infinitely many integer solutions if exists.

  • Developing a test for independence of random variables X and Y against the alternative has an important role in statistical inference. Kochar and Gupta (1987) proposed a class of tests in view of Block and Basu (1974) model and compared the powers for sample sizes n = 8, 12. In this paper, we evaluate Kochar and Gupta (1987) class of tests for testing independence against quadrant dependence in absolutely continuous bivariate Farlie-Gambel-Morgenstern distribution, via a simulation study for sample sizes n = 6, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20. Furthermore, we compare the power of the tests with that proposed by G$\ddot{u}$uven and Kotz (2008) based on the asymptotic distribution of the test statistics.

  • The gene encoding the extracellular medium-chain-length poly(3-hydroxyalkanoate) (MCL-PHA) depolymerase of Pseudomonas luteola Ml3-4, $phaZ_{plu}$, was cloned and analyzed. It was found to be 849 bp, with a deduced protein of 282 amino acids, and was revealed to have a typical leader peptide at its N terminus. The amino acid sequence of $PhaZ_{plu}$ revealed relatively low identity (69 to 72%) with those of other Pseudomonas MCL-PHA depolymerases. In comparison with the amino acid sequences of all available MCL-PHA depolymerases, the depolymerase was found to consist of three domains in sequential order; signal peptide, an N-terminal substrate binding domain, and a catalytic domain, indicating that $PhaZ_{plu}$ belongs to the type IV depolymerases family. The enzyme also contained Asn as an oxyanion hole amino acid.
