  • Recycled fine aggregate has low quality because it contains large amount of old mortar. So, its usage is limited to a lower value-add, such as the roadbed material etc. Also, alkaline water occurred from treatment process of the waste concrete is becoming the cause of environmental problem. Accordingly, this study is to develop on the high quality recycled fine aggregate produced by low speed wet abraser using sulphuric. We investigated the properties of compressive strength of the mortar which was manufactured using recycled fine aggregate containing calcined gypsum produced by earlier mentioned process. Test results indicate that mortar using recycled fine aggregate containing calcined gypsum has lowest compressive strength. It seems that low compressive strength is closely associated with the expansion of the specimen by excessive formation of ettringite.

  • The quality for the domestic pavement is evaluated based on flexural strength at the age of 28 days in accordance with KS regulation. Most specimens of the flexural tensile strength used currently are relatively large ones with a dimension of $150{\times}150{\times}550mm$. Accordingly, it is difficult to treat the specimens, and the utilization of a curing tank is low. In this paper, the study tried to resolve the problem by specimen size specified in the code. For this purpose, a flexural strength test was conducted according to the log scale within the specimen size specified by the KS. And, based on the results of this experiment, a comparative analysis was conducted using the prediction formula of Size Effect Law (SEL) proposed by Bazant to examine the correlation between specimen sizes, so as to use the result as basic data for the reduction of the specimen size in the quality evaluation of concrete pavement.

  • This paper reports an experimental study on the damage mechanism and resistance of Type I portland cement mortar and paste samples exposed to 5% sodium sulfate solution with different solution temperatures; namely, $4^{\circ}C$, $10^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$. The resistance of mortar samples was evaluated using expansion, compressive strength and flexural strength measurements. Some microstructural observations such as x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry and scanning electron microscopy were also introduced to elucidate reactants formed by sulfate attack, especially in a low temperature condition. From the results, it was found that the degree of damage in the mortar samples was significantly associated with the temperature of sulfate solution. Low temperature of the sulfate solution led to the formation of thaumasite in mortar and paste samples, and subsequently a poor resistance to sulfate attack. Thus, it is noted that when concrete structures are exposed to sulfate media in the condition of a cold region or whether, special care should be taken.

  • Slags are by-products of the metallurgical industry. The most important slag from the standpoint of the quantity used as building material is iron blastfurnace slag. Slags are either crystalline stable solid used as aggregates or glassy material used as hydraulic binder. Slag cements are low heat of hydration cements. Slags react more slowly with than portland cement but they can be activated chemically. Activatiors can be either alkaline activators such as soda, lime, sodium carbonate, sodium silicate or sulphate activators such as calcium sulphate or phosphogypsum. So, in this study slaked lime was used as an activator that the compressive strength of this modified cement(M1 type) is high range in early age. And initial setting time of M1 type cement was shorter than conventional cements.

  • Ocher block has started to be studied recently as a new environment friendly alternative building material. This article investigates the use of Rice Husk Ask (RHA) as an additive to improve properties of the ocher block. Ocher mixtures incorporating various proportions of RHA were compared. Compressive strength at various ages of these ocher blocks was evaluated ad the resistance to wet environment was also examined. These test result help to determine the effect of RHA on such properties of the ocher block as compaction, mix proportion, compressive strength and water absorption indexes. Based on these results, the new alternative building material and low cost construction techniques might be developed through more intensive research efforts.

  • bottom ash has difficult in recycling because of low activity and unburned carbon. so our study was control the unburned carbon for improvement of bottom ash. unburned carbon was controlled by distribution. The result of distribution is good that unburned carbon of bottom ash decrease in 4.5%. when we are replace bottom ash with OPC to 10$\sim$30%, specimens strength is decrease. but mix of controlled bottom ash revealed that it's strength increase 6% better than uncontrolled bottom ash.

  • In this study, strain properties of high strength concrete using light weight aggregate which is widely used in recent years are evaluated. For these purpose, thermal strain, transient creep were measured in prestressed condition as 0, 20, 40% of specimen strength at target temperature with 60MPa specimens which was using normal and light weight aggregate. As a result, light weight aggregate is more advantageous for the control of strain than normal aggregate because of its low thermal expansion.

  • As the importance of recycled materials is being emphasized more in the Korean construction market, the production quality has been improved to a significantly high level. Compared to the high quality, however, there are used very limitedly. Among recycled construction materials, recycled aggregates produced through the retreatment of waste concrete are drawing attention because of lack of natural aggregate and heightened consciousness of resource saving and environmental protection and, as a consequence, they are close to natural aggregates in terms of production technology and quality. Despite the high quality and productivity, however, the utilization of recycled aggregates is very low.

  • Steel encased composite columns are widely used due to their excellent structural performance in terms of stiffness, strength, and ductility. However, these columns were usually utilized for building structures and had higher steel ratio for small sections. For bridge pier applications, it is necessary to design the SRC columns having low steel ratio, which is nearly the same steel ratio as the normal RC columns. In this study, the evaluation of the composite columns with a core steel in term of the stiffness and the strength was investigated using experimental results. The effects of the steel ratio was also estimated using design provisions. The calculation of steel encased composite columns with multiple steel sections were performed and compared with RC columns.
