This paper presents the effects of via losses to be connected with an embedded DPDT(Double Pole Double Thru) in a substrate. The substrate consists of two ABF(Ajinomoto Bonding Film) and a Epoxy core. In order to verify and test effects of via, via chains in a substrate using SoP-L process are proposed and measured. Via loss can be calculated as averaging the total via holes. The exact loss of a DPDT switch embedded in substrate are extracted by using the results of via chain and measured data from embedded DPDT. The calculated one via insertion loss is about 0.0005 dB on basis of measured via chains. This result confirms very low loss in via. So the inserti on loss of the embedded switch is confirmed only switch loss as loss is 0.4 dB.

The quality loss of a X-band transmitter has been derived by means of MC simulation. The transmitter as a payload of LEO(Low Earth Orbit) satellite is capable of the down transmission the image data of hundreds Mbps generated from the Electro-Optical Instrument in real time. The parameters such as data asymmetry amplitude unbalance, phase unbalance, wave shaping and channel interference are included in the quality loss simulation Assuming that normally distributed gaussian noise is simply added to the channel, the quality loss of 0.7 dB has been obtained through this simulation based on a 95% confidence interval. The obtained quality loss can be applied to the link budgets as an additional loss item.
According to the improvement of HTS conductor, HTS tapes which have the high current capacity have been recently researched in several nations. For large power application, AC loss is the most important issue in the development of AC superconducting power devices because it is closely related to the system operation efficiency. In 1st generation wire of HTS conductor, BSCCO, AC loss is too large to use for power application. Also, It is well known in recently years that YBCO CC, the 2nd generation wire, has also too much AC loss to apply to AC power devices. There are many trials to develop the new HTS wire having the low AC loss around the world. In this research, we present the measurment result of magnetization losses in SmBCO coated conductors. We measured the magnetization loss generated by perpendicularly exposed external magnetic field and compared with the analytic value of the strip model. Also, we presented the results compared with measured magnetization loss of an YBCO coated conductor.
This paper describes a low-loss, compact, 40-channel arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) which utilizes a monolithically integrated spot-size converter (SSC) for lowering the coupling loss between silica waveguides and standard single-mode fibers. The SSC is a simple waveguide structure that is tapered in both the vertical and horizontal directions. The vertically tapered structure was realized using a shadow-mask etching technique. By employing this technique, the fabricated, 40-channel, 100 GHz-spaced AWG with silica waveguides of 1.5% relative index-contrast showed an insertion-loss figure of 2.8 dB without degrading other optical performance.
In this study, we fabricated the DAMLs using surface micromachining technology as well a low loss coupler for the millimeter-wave band applications using these DAMLs. The structure of DAML is that a signal line is supported on ground plane by dielectric posts. Therefore it has advantages about the loss characteristic and the stable structure. The other advantage of the DAML process is a simple and convenient technique using 4 mask steps, even if it has a micromachining technology. The lowest loss of the fabricated DAML was obtained 2.2 dB/cm at 110 GHz. To obtain the low loss characteristic, couplers were designed and fabricated by using DAMLs. The fabricated ring hybrid coupler has the coupling of 3.58 dB and the thru of 3.31 dB at 60 GHz. We can also obtain the coupling of 3.42 dB, the thru of 3.82 dB from fabricated branch line coupler at 60 GHz.

High performance packages must have a minimum insertion loss and return loss. In this paper, we design a millimeter-wave ceramic package using LTCC (Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic) technology to satisfy excellent transmission characteristics and characterize in a frequency range from DC to 30 GHz using the FEM (Finite Element Method) calculation. From these calculation results, the designed feed-through structure achieved 0.32 dB, 16.8 dB of the insertion loss and the return loss at 30 GHz respectively. This designed ceramic package will be useful for MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) modules.

In this paper, we proposed a soft-switched synchronous buck converter, which can perform charging the battery. The proposed converter has low switching loss even at high frequency operation due to its soft switching characteristics. The converter operates in synchronous mode to minimize conduction loss, resulting in small conduction loss, also. In this reason, the efficiency of the converter can be greatly improved even in high frequency. The size and weight of the converter can be reduced by high frequency operation of the converter. In this paper, we designed a battery charger with a switching frequency of 100 kHz. The designed converter also simulated to prove the converter's characteristics of synchronous operation as well as soft switching operation. The simulation shows that the proposed converter always meets the soft switching conditions of turning on and off switching in the zero voltage and zero current states. Therefore, simulation results have confirmed that the proposed battery charger had soft switching characteristics. The simulation results for transient response to charge current for the designed converter show that the converter responds to charge current commands quickly within 0.05 ms.

In this paper, the dielectric properties of fabricated Polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF, $PVF_2$) thin film with substrate temperature from 30 to at vapor deposition. The dielectric properties of PVDF thin film had been studied in the frequency range from 10Hz to 4MHz at measuring temperature between 20 and $100^{/circ}C$. The anomalous increasing in dielectric constant and dielectric loss at low frequencies and high temperature was described for PVDF thin film containing ion impurities. In particularly, ion mobility of fabricated PVDF thin film at substrate temperature at $30^{/circ}C$ decrease from $2\times10^{-5}\;to\;3.07$\times10^{-7}cm^2/V.s$ On the other hand, ion density increase abruptly from 1.49\times$$10^{13}$ to $1.5\times$10^{16}$cm^{-3}$ In spite of decreasing of ion mobility, dielectric constants and dielectric loss for PVDF thin film increase rapidly with decreasing frequency and high temperature. It was concluded that the dielectric constants and dielectric loss was related to ion density than to ion mobility at low frequency and high temperatures.

In this paper, we proposed and demonstrated a low loss $1{\times}4$ type plastic optical fiber(POF) coupler incorporating a polymer tapering waveguide region. To avoid leakage loss at the interfaces between the POF and the polymer waveguide, we employed two POF transition regions, in which the cross section of the POF is adiabatically converted from a circular to a rectangular shape without change of its cross-section area. The device was fabricated based on a injection mold made of a silicon rubber. The fabricated POF coupler showed 1.33 dB of excess loss and 2.2 dB of flatness.
The low loss single-mode $Al_{0.042}Ga_{0.958}As/GaAs/Al_{0.042}Ga_{0.958}As$ strip-loaded waveguides had been designed using an effective index method and fabricated using a MOCVD technique and chemical wet etching method. The propagation loss and facet reflectivity were measured by the Fabry-Perot resonance method and sequential cleaving experiment at $1.31{\mu}m$ wavelength. As a result, the propagation loss is as low as 0.62 dB/cm and the facet refiectivity(R) equals to 0.299 for straight waveguides with width $ w=4.1{\mu}m$..
