  • In order to obtain high quality images of thin objects, we performed an experiment of proton radiography by using low energy protons generated from the interaction of an ultrashort ultraintense laser with solid targets. The protons were produced from a thin polyimide target irradiated by the laser pulse, and their maximum energy was estimated at up to 1.8 MeV. A CR-39 nuclear track detector was used as a proton radiography screen. The proton images were obtained by using an optical microscope and the spatial resolution was evaluated by a Modulation Transfer Function (MTF). We have achieved about $10\;{\mu}m$ spatial resolution of images. The obtained spatial resolution shows about $4{\sim}5$ times better value than the conventional X-ray radiography for inspection or non-destructive test (NDT) purpose.

  • Drone images are being used more and more actively in the fields of surveying and spatial information, and are rapidly replacing existing aerial and satellite images. The technology of quickly acquiring real-time data at low cost and processing it is now being applied to actual industries beyond research. However, there are also problems encountered as this progresses. When high-resolution spatial information is acquired using a general 2D flight plan for a terrain with sever undulations, problems arise due to the difference in resolution of the data. In particular, when a low-altitude high-resolution image is taken using a drone in a mountainous or steep terrain, there may be a problem in image matching due to a resolution difference caused by terrain undulations. This problem occurs because a drone acquires data while flying on a 2D plane at a fixed altitude, just like conventional aerial photography. In order to acquire high-quality 3D data using a drone, the scale difference for the shooting distance should be considered. In addition, in order to obtain facade images of large structures, it is necessary to take images in 3D space. In this study, in order to improve the disadvantages of the 2D flight method, a 3D flight plan was established for the study area, and it was confirmed that high-quality 3D spatial information could be obtained in this way.

  • Large-eddy simulations of the flow around a circular cylinder at a Reynolds number, based on cylinder diameter and free-stream velocity, $Re_D=2{\times}10^4$ are presented. Three different dynamic subgrid-scale models are used, viz. the dynamic eddy-viscosity model and two different mixed two-parameter models. The sensitivity to grid refinement in the spanwise and radial directions is systematically investigated. For the highest resolution considered, the effects of subgrid-scale modeling are also discussed in detail. In particular, it is shown that SGS modeling has a significant influence on the low-frequency modulations of the aerodynamics loads, which are related to significant changes in the near wake structure.

  • Design of efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols with both high throughput performances is a major focus in distributed contention-based MAC protocol research. In this paper, we propose an efficient contention-based MAC protocol for wireless Local Area Networks, namely, the Developed Collision Resolution (DCR) algorithm. This algorithm is developed based on the following innovative ideas: to speed up the collision resolution, we actively redistribute the backoff timers for all active nodes; to reduce the average number of idle slots, we use smaller contention window sizes for nodes with successful packet transmissions and reduce the backoff timers exponentially fast when a fixed number of consecutive idle slots are detected. We show that the proposed DCR algorithm provides high throughput performance and low latency in wireless LANs.

  • This paper shows the more improved design of MRI receiver compared to conventional one based on Elscint Spectrometer. At first, the low-cost ADC is 16 bits, 3MHz sampling A/D converter Comparing to conventional one with signal bits of 14 bits, this device with those of 16 bits helps getting Improved the image resolution improved. If frequency is designed centering around 7.6 MHz to be satisfied in 10 MHz of maximum input bandwidth of ADC. For 1st demodulation, fixed IF is used for the purpose of the implementing multi nuclei system. Control parts & partial digital parts are integrated on one chip(FPGA). In DDC(Digital Down Converter), we got required bandwidth of LPF by controlling its decimation rate. With above considerations, we designed optimal receiver for high resolution imaging to be implemented through PC interface & experimental test of receiver of MRI after receiver's fabrication.

  • Mask manufacturing is a high COC and COO process in developing of semiconductor devices, because of the mass production tool with high resolution. Direct writing has been thought to be one of the patterning method to cope with development or small-lot production of the device. This study focused on the development of the direct, mastless patterning process using stereolithography tool for the easy and convenient application to micro and miso scale products. Experiments are utilized by three dimensional CAD/CAM as a mask and photo-curable resin as a photo-resist in a conventional stereo-lithography apparatus. Results show that the resolution of the pattern was achieved about 300 micron because of complexity of SLA apparatus settings, inspite of 100 micro of inherent resolution. This paper concludes that photo resist and laser spot diameter should be adjusted to get finer patterns and the proposed method is significantly feasible to mastless and low cost patterning with micro and miso scale.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to reconstruct resolution-improved 3D images computationally based on lenslet array model in integral imaging technique and analyze its performance. While conventional view-point reconstruction method has low resolution based on pinhole array model, the proposed method can obtain resolution-improved 3D images because of extracting multiple pixels from elemental images by use of lenslet way model. To show the usefulness of proposed method, we perform computational experiments and present its results.

  • In this paper, a new algorithm for contention resolution in optical burst switched network is proposed and simulated. The proposed algorithm is made from the all mixing of wavelength conversion, deflection routing, segmentation, and optical fiber delay line buffering. We analysis the performance of the proposed contention resolution algorithm by using ns-2. The application of the algorithm into Korea backbone network shows the superior performance of a low burst loss probability.

  • In this paper, we present real-time, accurate face region detection and tracking technique for an intelligent surveillance system. It is very important to obtain the high-resolution images, which enables accurate identification of an object-of-interest. Conventional surveillance or security systems, however, usually provide poor image quality because they use one or more fixed cameras and keep recording scenes without any clue. We implemented a real-time surveillance system that tracks a moving person using pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras. While tracking, the region-of-interest (ROI) can be obtained by using a low-pass filter and background subtraction. Color information in the ROI is updated to extract features for optimal tracking and zooming. The experiment with real human faces showed highly acceptable results in the sense of both accuracy and computational efficiency.

  • We present preliminary results of elemental abundances of six ultra-metal poor (UMP; [Fe/H] < -4.0) stars derived from high-resolution spectra obtained by Gemini/GRACES. The UMP candidates were selected for the high-resolution follow-up from the low-resolution spectra of Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). We investigate possible progenitors of the UMP objects by comparing the measured abundance patterns with yields that various supernova models predict. Our results can provide stringent constraints on the mass range of the first generation of stars, which are the progenitors of the UMP objects.
