Super resolution image reconstruction method refers to image processing algorithms that produce a high resolution(HR) image from observed several low resolution(LR) images of the same scene. This method is proved to be useful in many practical cases where multiple frames of the same scene can be obtained, such as satellite imaging, video surveillance, video enhancement and restoration, digital mosaicking, and medical imaging. In this paper we applied super resolution reconstruction method in spatial domain to video sequences. Test images are adjacently sampled images from continuous video sequences and overlapped for high rate. We constructed the observation model between the HR images and LR images applied by the Maximum A Posteriori(MAP) reconstruction method that is one of the major methods in the super resolution grid construction. Based on this method, we reconstructed high resolution images from low resolution images and compared the results with those from other known interpolation methods.

There have been many researches to yield higher resolution image quality from the low resolution CCD device. The resolution of it is primary factor for the image quality of digital still camera and in manufacturing price. IN this paper, image enlargement algorithm, which reduces blocking effect of enlarged low resolution image and minimizes ringing and blur effect occurring around edge in linear interpolation, is proposed. This algorithm is composed of gaussian low pass filter which eliminates aliasing, least square spline interpolation and non-linear interpolation based on step edge model.
A system for high-resolution analysis of defective elementary cell (R, G or B) on Flat Panel Display (FPD) is described. Based on multiple acquisitions of low-resolution shifted images of the display, our system doesn't require a high-resolution sensor neither tedious alignment of the display, and will remain up to date even facing an important increase of the display dimensions. Our process, highly automated and thus flexible and robust, is expected to perform a full analysis in less than 60s. It is mainly intended for production tests and display classification by manufacturers.

This paper proposes a low complexity super resolution algorithm for frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar systems for foreign object debris (FOD) detection. FOD radar has a requirement to detect foreign object in small units in a large area. However, The fast Fourier transform (FFT) method, which is most widely used in FMCW radar, has a disadvantage in that it can not distinguish between adjacent targets. Super resolution algorithms have a significantly higher resolution compared with the detection algorithm based on FFT. However, in the case of the large number of samples, the computational complexity of the super resolution algorithms is drastically high and thus super resolution algorithms are difficult to apply to real time systems. In order to overcome this disadvantage of super resolution algorithm, first, the proposed algorithm coarsely obtains the frequency of the beat signal by employing FFT. Instead of using all the samples of the beat signal, the number of samples is adjusted according to the frequency of the beat signal. By doing so, the proposed algorithm significantly reduces the computational complexity of multiple signal classifier (MUSIC) algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed method achieves accurate location even though it has considerably lower complexity than the conventional super resolution algorithms.
This paper proposes a novel framework for image fusion of satellite imagery to enhance spatial resolution of the image via structure-texture decomposition. The resolution of the satellite imagery depends on the sensors, for example, panchromatic images have high spatial resolution but only a single gray band whereas multi-spectral images have low spatial resolution but multiple bands. To enhance the spatial resolution of low-resolution images, such as multi-spectral or infrared images, the proposed framework combines the structures from the low-resolution image and the textures from the high-resolution image. To improve the spatial quality of structural edges, the structure image from the low-resolution image is guided filtered with the structure image from the high-resolution image as the guidance image. The combination step is performed by pixel-wise addition of the filtered structure image and the texture image. Quantitative and qualitative evaluation demonstrate the proposed method preserves spectral and spatial fidelity of input images.

Remote sensing cannot provide a direct measurement of vegetation index (VI) but it can provide a reasonably good estimate of vegetation index, defined as the ratio of satellite bands. The monitoring of vegetation in nearby urban regions is made difficult by the low spatial resolution and temporal resolution image captures. In this study, enhancing spatial resolution method is adapted as to improve a low spatial resolution. Recent studies have successfully estimated normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) using improved resolution method such as from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard EOS Terra satellite. Image enhancing spatial resolution is an important tool in remote sensing, as many Earth observation satellites provide both high-resolution and low-resolution multi-spectral images. Examples of enhancement of a MODIS multi-spectral image and a MODIS NDVI image of Cheongju using a Landsat TM high-resolution multi-spectral image are presented. The results are compared with that of the IHS technique is presented for enhancing spatial resolution of multi-spectral bands using a higher resolution data set. To provide a continuous monitoring capability for NDVI, in situ measurements of NDVI from paddy field was carried out in 2004 for comparison with remotely sensed MODIS data. We compare and discuss NDVI estimates from MODIS sensors and in-situ spectroradiometer data over Ochang plain region. These results indicate that the MODIS NDVI is underestimated by approximately 50%.
This paper proposes a new reconstruction method of high-resolution facial image from a low-resolution facial image based on top-down machine learning and recursive error back-projection. A face is represented by a linear combination of prototypes of shape and that of texture. With the shape and texture information of each pixel in a given low-resolution facial image, we can estimate optimal coefficients for a linear combination of prototypes of shape and those that of texture by solving least square minimizations. Then high-resolution facial image can be obtained by using the optimal coefficients for linear combination of the high-resolution prototypes. In addition, a recursive error back-projection procedure is applied to improve the reconstruction accuracy of high-resolution facial image. The encouraging results of the proposed method show that our method can be used to improve the performance of the face recognition by applying our method to reconstruct high-resolution facial images from low-resolution images captured at a distance.

In this paper, we propose a technique that can express low-resolution hair and fur simulations in high-resolution without noise using ConvNet and geometric images of strands in the form of lines. Pairs between low-resolution and high-resolution data can be obtained through physics-based simulation, and a low-resolution-high-resolution data pair is established using the obtained data. The data used for training is used by converting the position of the hair strands into a geometric image. The hair and fur network proposed in this paper is used for an image synthesizer that upscales a low-resolution image to a high-resolution image. If the high-resolution geometry image obtained as a result of the test is converted back to high-resolution hair, it is possible to express the elastic movement of hair, which is difficult to express with a single mapping function. As for the performance of the synthesis result, it showed faster performance than the traditional physics-based simulation, and it can be easily executed without knowing complex numerical analysis.
Inherent opportunities on research for restoring high resolution image from low resolution images are increasing in these days. Super resolution image reconstruction is the process of combining multiple low resolution images to form a higher resolution one. To achieve super resolution reconstruction, proper observation model which is based on subpixel shift information is required. In this context, the importance of the subpixel registration cannot be estimated because subpixel shift information cannot be obtained from original image. This paper presents a regularized adaptive super resolution reconstruction method based on phase correlated subpixel registration, where the Constrained Least Squares(CLS) Restoration is adopted as a post process.
In this paper, we propose a super-resolution method that reconstructs compressed low-resolution images into high-resolution images. We propose a CNN model with a small number of parameters, and even if quantization is applied to the proposed model, super-resolution can be implemented without deteriorating the image quality. To further improve the quality of the compressed low-resolution image, a new degradation model was proposed instead of the existing bicubic degradation model. The proposed degradation model is used only in the training process and can be applied by changing only the parameter values to the original CNN model. In the super-resolution image applying the proposed degradation model, visual artifacts caused by image compression were effectively removed. As a result, our proposed method generates higher PSNR values at compressed images and shows better visual quality, compared to conventional CNN-based SR methods.
