Effects of Indoor Relative Humidity Conditions on the Growth of Arachniodes aristata and Pyrrosia lingua in Native Ferns (실내 습도조건이 가는쇠고사리, 석위의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This studies were performed to determine the effects of indoor relative humidity conditions on the growth of Arachniodes aristata and Pyrrosia lingua in native fern and investigate an applicable possibility of indoor plants. The response of Arachniodes aristata and Pyrrosia lingua was evaluated in growth chamber (KG-8407-87) to 3 relative humidity and 3 soils. Relative humidity was applied to 25%, 50%, 90%; soils were prepared based on soil mixture(SM), top field soil(TF), masa soil(MS). Results of experiments are as follows ; 1. Under a low humidity condition, such as 25%, Water contents, chlorophyll content, ornamental value of Arachniodes aristata and Pyrrosia lingua decreased much more a 50-90%. 2. The growth of Arachniodes aristata were best in pots under a soil mixture(SM) but Pyrrosia lingua were field top soil(FT) under 25%. It seemed that Pyrrosia lingua due to tolerance of desiccation more than Arachniodes aristata. Though these studies, coefficient of relative humidity and soil was plays an important role in Arachniodes aristata and Pyrrosia lingua growth in indoor environments.

Real-Time Soil Humidity Monitoring Based on Sensor Network Using IoT (IoT를 사용한 센서 네트워크 기반의 실시간 토양 습도 모니터링)

  • This paper reports a method to use a wireless sensor network deployed in the field to real-time monitor soil moisture, warning when the moisture level reaches a specific value, and wirelessly controlling an additional device (LED or water supply system, etc.). In addition, we report all processes related to wireless irrigation system, including field deployment of sensors, real-time monitoring using a smartphone, data calibration, and control of additional devices deployed in the field by smartphone. A commercially available open-source Internet of Things (IoT) platform, NodeMCU, was used, which was combined with a 9V battery, LED and soil humidity sensor to be integrated into a portable prototype. The IoT-based soil humidity sensor prototype deployed in the field was installed next to a tree for on-site demonstration for the measurement of soil humidity in real-time for about 30 hours, and the measured data was successfully transmitted to a smartphone via Wifi. The measurement data were automatically transmitted via e-mail in the form of a text file, stored on the web, followed by analyses and calibrations. The user can check the humidity of the soil real-time through a personal smartphone. When the humidity of a soil reached a specific value, an additional device, an LED device, placed in the field was successfully controlled through the smartphone. This LED can be easily replaced by other electronic devices such as water supplies, which can also be controlled by smartphones. These results show that farmers can not only monitor the condition of the field real-time through a sensor monitoring system manufactured simply at a low cost but also control additional devices such as irrigation facilities from a distance, thereby reducing unnecessary energy consumption and helping improve agricultural productivity.

Study on the Relationship between Weather Conditions, Sewage and Operational Variables of WWTPs using Multivariate Statistical Methods (기상조건이 하수발생량 및 하수처리장 운전인자에 미치는 영향에 관한 통계적 분석)

  • Generally, the rainfall and the influent of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have strong relationship at the case of combined sewers. With the fact that the influent variations in terms of quantity and sewage quality is the most common and significant disturbance, the impact factor to the characteristics of sewage should be searched for. In this paper, the relationship between weather conditions such as humidity, temperature and rainfall and influent flowrate and contaminant concentration was analysed using factor analysis. Additionally, 3 influent types were deduced using cluster analysis and the distributions of operational variables were compared to the each groups by one-way ANOVA. The applied dataset were clustered to three groups that have the similar weather and influent conditions. These different conditions can cause the different operating conditions at WWTPs. That is, the Group 1 is for the condition with high humidity and rainfall, so DO concentration in the reactor was very high but MLSS concentration was very low because of too large flowrate. However, the Group 3 is classified to the case having low humidity, temperature, and rainfall, therefore, the SRT was the longest and the SVI was the highest due to the worst settleability in the winter for a year.

A Measurement and Evaluation on the Indoor Thermal Conditions in Spring of a New Training ship (신조 운항실습선의 봄철 실내 온열환경 실측평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze the ship's indoor thermal conditions and also to integrate experimental database of those, supplied and controlled by ship's HVAC. On this study, temperature, humidity and air volume of 6 different needs' cabin are measured on a newly-launched training ship during 2nd through 5th of April, 2007. Followings are the results of this study. (1)Because only partial loads are needed in spring season, the air volume from diffusers are measured as below 20%. (2)The temperatures are ranged between $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ and those are within comfort temperature range proposed by AHREA. (3)But humidities in cabins are very low and it could be the reason of a cold and/or a skin disease. (4)From the student cabins' measurements which have different supply diffuser(s), it is clear that the design is suitable for this case. (5)Because of low humidity, only 16.1% among the measured data are satisfied with the comfort standard range proposed by ASHREA. To improve the predictability and the comfort, HVAC should maintain the humidity as $40{\sim}60%$.

Effects of Temperature and Humidity on Fungal Occurrence in Dried Red Pepper during Storage

  • Dried red peppers are frequently contaminated with mycotoxins during storage. To determine the effect of storage environments on fungal occurrence and subsequent mycotoxin accumulation in dried red peppers, we monitored red pepper powder and whole fruit samples for fungal occurrence under various temperatures and relative humidity (RH) conditions during 340 days. Fungal occurrences fluctuated in both pepper forms throughout the storage but they were higher in pepper powder than whole one, higher under low temperatures (-20℃, 0℃, or 4℃) than others (10℃, 25℃, or 30℃), and higher under RH 93% than RH 51% and 69% in both peppers. The samples exhibiting high fungal occurrences were associated mainly with dominant species such as Aspergillussydowii, Penicillium solitum, P. roqueforti, P. polonicum, or P. chrysogenum. Mycotoxigenic species, including A. flavus, A. ochraceus, A. westerdijkiae, A. tubingensis, and P. citrinum, were also detected throughout the samples. Although mycotoxins were not detected in the samples, mycotoxigenic potential of A. flavus, A. ochraceus, and A. westerdijkiae isolates were confirmed. These results show that low temperatures (-20℃, 0℃, or 4℃) and/or high surrounding RH (>93%) are not safe environments for storage of dried red peppers as fungal growth can occur under these conditions.

A Study on the Characteristic Micro-Climate in the City using Computerized Fluid Analysis and Actual Measurement (전산유체해석과 실측을 이용한 도심내 미기후 특성에 대한 연구)

  • Microclimate analysis was conducted through actual measurement according to land use status in urban, and CFD analysis was conducted to analyze and predict the microclimate characteristics of urban, and compared and analyzed with the actual measurement results. It was measured in high-rise areas and parks, and the temperature of the park area was 0.4 to 0.6℃ lower, and the relative humidity was 1.0 to 3.0% higher. The correlation coefficient was obtained by comparing the results of the computational fluid analysis with the results of the computational fluid analysis at the actual location located within the CFD analysis area for validation. The seasonal correlation coefficients are all higher than 0.8, so it is judged that they can be applied to microclimate analysis in urban area. The computational fluid analysis was divided into three areas (low-rise, low and high-rise, and high-rise) centered on the A2 point. On average, the low-rise area was 0.1 to 0.4% higher than the high-rise area. In the low and high-rise area and high-rise area, the pith of buildings are wide, so the airflow is smooth, so it is judged that the temperature is relatively low.

  • As the flying height decreased, it is essential that hard disk drives perform reliable under various environmental conditions. In this paper the tribological characteristics of a head/disk interface are investigated under various temperature, relative humidity, altitude and outgas conditions. Specially, Contact-Start-Stop(CSS) tests were performed to assess the stiction, acoustic emission, slider take-off behavior, and track average amplitude(TAA). It is shown that the surface damage and head failure are accelerated by high temperature and humidity as well as low ambient pressure.

  • Friction and wear behavior of a unidirectional high modulus carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composite exposed to high and low humidity was experimentally examined with various sliding speeds. The results show that the moisture at the sliding surface greatly influences friction and wear properties of the composite. It is also discoverd that the difference in friction and wear behavior between samples with different fiber orientations is mainly due to the anisotropic properties caused by the microstructure of oriented graphite crystals in the carbon fibers and the macrostructure of fiber orientation in the matrix.
