Aesthetic Consciousness and Literary Logic in the Jamesian Transatlantic Perspective: Towards a Dialectic of "a big Anglo Saxon total"

  • The aesthetic attitude, in general or in particular, represented in matters of taste through aesthetic ideas and value judgments postulates a certain literary logic. And this literary logic reveals itself a sense of morality, philosophy, or moral aesthetic consciousness through the moments of act and thought demonstrated in the characters invented in literary works. Henry James, among many others, offers a very special cultural paradigm for transnational argument because of his diverse ways of shaping transatlantic relations in terms of aesthetic consciousness. And this international paradigm produced varied expressions referring to Henry James as "an American expatriate," "an Anglicized American artist," "a Europeanized aesthete," "a cosmopolitan intelligence," "a bohemian cosmopolitan" to designate his literary career and its characteristics shaped in Europe. Such expressions resonate with Transatlantic Sketches, James's first collection on travel and cultures in 1875 which heralded his long "expatriation" in terms of self-distantiation. James's temperament of mind, far from being always identified with shared values within an ideological framework, never avoided friction with fixed ideas but rather absorbed it fully for another friction which intervenes in his house of fiction. My question arises here regarding his cultural belonging or dislocation: where is the place of his mind or what could be his ultimate destination? In this essay, I'd like to define a place or rather the place of James's literary mind by proving a certain "sympathetic justice" for his literary logic. For this purpose, I'll try to examine: how James used transatlantic perspective, a spatio-temporal assessment to formulate his moral aesthetic consciousness; and how the aesthetic framework functions in assessing his literary logic of aesthetic consciousness. To start with the first argument, I'll analyze some essential aspects of aesthetic attitude of his characters to postulate a persona capable of theorizing James's aestheticism conditioned by the transatlantic context. And for the second argument, I'll examine how the persona functions in formulating a proper cultural stance of James's aesthetic consciousness in transatlantic perspective to illuminate the way of how Jamesian individuality reflects the American mind. This process of theorizing a place of James's own will lead, I hope, to our discovering James's ultimate destination on the assumption that it'll prove or create a certain "sympathetic justice" for his humanist aestheticism, a Jamesian absolute morality.

  • This paper handles the design and implementation of the system for transforming the XML document bated on XML Schema being different in syntax but similar in logic, with using structured differences analysis. In the system, the merge data is generated from the source and destination documents by utilizing data registry and structured differences analysis, and then XML document is generated from the generated merge data. The XML document transformation system is designed that transformation process to the present application system from the different application system gains advantage in the aspect of time, cost, and reliability. The implementation environment of the system is that it is run on IBM compatible PC and it is developed using the software of visual basic 6.0 with the Platform of Windows 2000.

  • MOSFET, MESFET 그리고 MODFET는 Logic ULSIs, high speed ICs, RF MMICs 등에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있으며, 그것의 gate electrode, contact, interconnect 등의 물질로는 refractory metal을 이용한 CoSi2, MoSi2, TaSi2, PtSi2, TiSi2 등의 효과를 얻어내고 있다. 그중 TiSi2는 비저항이 가장 낮고, 열적 안정도가 좋으며 SAG process가 가능하므로 simpler alignment process, higher transconductance, lower source resistance 등의 장점을 동시에 만족시키고 있다. 최근 소자차원이 scale down 됨에 따라 TiSi2의 silicidation 과정에서 C49 TiSi2 phase(high resistivity, thermally unstable phase, larger grain size, base centered orthorhombic structure)의 출현과 그것을 제거하기 위한 노력이 큰 issue로 떠오르고 있다. 여러 연구 결과에 따르면 PAI(Pre-amorphization zimplantation), HTS(High Temperature Sputtering) process, Mo(Molybedenum) implasntation 등이 C49를 bypass시키고 C54 TiSi2 phase(lowest resistivity, thermally stable phase, smaller grain size, face centered orthorhombic structure)로의 transformation temperature를 줄일 수 있는 가장 효과적인 방법으로 제안되고 있지만, 아직 그 문제가 완전히 해결되지 않은 상태이며 C54 nucleation에 대한 physical mechanism을 밝히진 못하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 증착 시 기판온도의 변화(400~75$0^{\circ}C$)에 따라 silicon 위에 DC/RF magnetron sputtering 방식으로 Ti/Si film을 각각 제작하였다. 제작된 시료는 N2 분위기에서 30~120초 동안 500~85$0^{\circ}C$의 온도변화에 따라 RTA법으로 각각 one step annealing 하였다. 또한 Al을 cosputtering함으로써 Al impurity의 존재에 따른 영향을 동시에 고려해 보았다. 제작된 시료의 분석을 위해 phase transformation을 XRD로, microstructure를 TEM으로, surface topography는 SEM으로, surface microroughness는 AFM으로 측정하였으며 sheet resistance는 4-point probe로 측정하였다. 분석된 결과를 보면, 고온에서 제작된 박막에서의 C54 phase transformation temperature가 감소하는 것이 관측되었으며, Al impuritydmlwhswork 낮은온도에서의 C54 TiSi2 형성을 돕는다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구에서는 결론적으로, 고온에서 증착된 박막으로부터 열적으로 안정된 phase의 낮은 resistivity를 갖는 C54 TiSi2 형성을 보다 낮은 온도에서 one-step RTA를 통해 얻을 수 있다는 결과와 Al impurity가 존재함으로써 얻어지는 thermal budget의 효과, 그리고 그로부터 기대할 수 있는 여러 장점들을 보고하고자 한다.

  • In this paper, we have studied a numerical stability analysis method for the robust fuzzy feedback linearization regulator using Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. To analyze the robust stability, we assume that uncertainty is included in the model structure with known bounds. For these structured uncertainty, the robust stability of the closed system is analyzed by applying Linear Matrix Inequalities theory following a transformation of the closed loop systems into Lur'e systems.

  • This paper describes a fuzzy steering controller for an autonomous mobile robot with MR sensor. Using the magnetic field(Bx, By, Bz) obtained from the MR sensor, we designed fuzzy controller for driving on the road center. Fuzzy rule base was built to magnetic field(Bx, By, Bz). To develop an autonomous mobile robot simulation program, we have done modeling MR sensor, dynamic model of mobile robot and coordinate transformation.   • This paper presents a new algorithm for solving the inverse kinematics in real-time applications. The end-tip movement of each link can be resolved into the basic resolution unit, .DELTA.l, which depends on link length, reduction ratio and resolution of the incremental encoder attached to the joint. When x- and y-axis projection of the end-tip movement are expressed in .DELTA.l unit, projectional increments .DELTA.x and .DELTA.y become -1, 0 or I by truncation. By using the incremental computation with these ternary value and some simple logic rules, a coordinate transformation can be realized. Through this approach, it should be noted that the floating-point arithmetic and the manipulation of trigonometric functions are completely eliminated. This paper demonstrates the proposed method in a parallelogram linkage type, two-link arm.

  • This paper Presents an algorithm for synthesis of sequential statements described at RT level VHDL. The proposed algorithm transforms sequential statements in VHDL into data-flow description consisting of concurrent statements by local and global dependency analysis and output dependency elimination. Transformation into concurrent statements makes it possible to reduce the cost of the synthesized hardwares, thus to get optimal synthesis results that will befit the designer 's intention. This algorithm has been implemented on VSYN and experimental results show that more compact gate-level hardwares are generated compared with Power View system from ViewLogic and Design Analyzer from Synopsys.

  • Various organizational factors effect successful implementation of IT enabled business transformation. Among them, the most critical success factor is deemed to overcoming change management problem. Lots of studies have been made on Implementation methodologies and business process formalizations to encourage organizational members to accept new business process changes. However, the logic or process redesign still depends on qualitative problem solving techniques mostly depending on basically human intuition such as brainstorming. cause-and-effect analysis. and so on. In this paper, we focused on developing analytic framework to design to-be business process structure. which can complement qualitative problem solving procedures. With effective use of IT as an enabler, we provide algorithmic framework applicable to designing various business process changes such as process automation, business process resequencing, and more radical process integration. The framework follows dynamic programming approach in the literature, which is based on the decision making paradigm of organizations to abstract business processes as quantitative decision models. As such, our research ran fill the gap of limited development of theory based analytic methodologies for business process design, by providing objective rationale to reach the consensus among the organizational members including senior management.

  • The main purpose to introduce model based controller in proposed control technique is to provide better and fast learning of the floating dynamics by means of fuzzy logic controller and also cancelling effect of nonlinear terms of the system. An iterative adaptive dynamic programming algorithm is proposed to deal with the optimal trajectory-tracking control problems for autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). The optimal tracking control problem is converted into an optimal regulation problem by system transformation. Then the optimal regulation problem is solved by the policy iteration adaptive dynamic programming algorithm. Finally, simulation example is given to show the performance of the iterative adaptive dynamic programming algorithm.

KAIST ARM의 고속동작제어를 위한 하드웨어 좌표변환기의 개발

  • To relize the future intelligent robot the development of a special-purpose processor for a coordinate transformation is evidently challenging task. In this case the complexity of a hardware architecture strongly depends on the adopted algorithm. In this paper we have used an inverse kinemetics algorithm based on incremental unit computation method. This method considers the 3-axis articulated robot as the combination of two types of a 2-axis robot: polar robot and 2-axis planar articulated one. For each robot incremental units in the joint and Cartesian spaces are defined. With this approach the calculation of the inverse Jacobian matrix can be realized through a simple combinational logic gate. Futhermore, the incremental computation of the DDA integrator can be used to solve the direct kinematics. We have also designed a hardware architecture to implement the proposed algorithm. The architecture consists of serveral simple unitsl. The operative unit comprises several basic operators and simple data path with a small bit-length. The hardware architecture is realized byusing the EPLD. For the straight-line motion of the KAIST arm we have obtained maximum end effector's speed of 12.6 m/sec by adopting system clock of 8 MHz.
