시간-주파수 영역 반사파 계측법 기반 활선 상태 지중 전력 케이블의 중성선 결함 위치 추정 연구 (Localization of Concentric Neutrals Corrosion on Live Underground Power Cable Based on Time-frequency Domain Reflectometry)

  • In this paper, we propose a time-frequency domain reflectometry (TFDR) based measurement method for localizing concentric neutrals corrosion on live underground power cable. It consists of two inductive couplers which can transmit the reference signal into live underground power cable and measure the reflected signals from the impedance discontinuities of concentric neutrals corrosion. In order to compensate the dispersion of the measured reflected signal via inductive coupler, an equalizer based on Wiener filtering is designed. To improve the localizing performance of concentric neutrals corrosion in the vicinity of the measurement point, the reference signal is removed from the measured reflected signals. The localization performance of the proposed method is verified by the concentric neutrals corrosion localization experiment.

  • Stainless steel 304 or stainless steel 630 types using propeller shaft of a small ship or a FRP fishing boat generally restrain localization corrosion and abrasion damage occurrence to shaft bearing or grand packing contact. In general, the residual stress which remains after welding or heat treatment in material can cause the stress concentration or localization corrosion. In case of small ship, stainless steel such as STS304 has long been used for propeller shaft. Meanwhile, crew of small ship tend to reuse damaged propeller shaft after repair by welding and performing heat treatment to save cost. However, it was found that reused propeller shaft by repair often caused troubles in ship's operation. In this study, the basic guideline for maintenance and treatment of propeller shaft are investigated. From the results of investigation, remarkable deterioration of the material properties and corrosion resistance on the welded work part was observed.

Electrochemical Noise Analysis on the General Corrosion of Mild steel in Hydrochloric Acid Solution

  • The polarization resistance of mild steel in 0.5M hydrochloric acid has been evaluated by using impedance (Z) and linear polarization (LPR) techniques and compared to the noise resistance obtained from electrochemical noise data. The degree of localization of this general corrosion has also been discussed by evaluating localization index and power spectral density. Polarization resistance obtained by LPR technique ($28\Omega$) was higher than that obtained by impedance technique ($15\Omega$). Noise resistance ($11\Omega$) was much lower than polarization resistance measured by both of above techniques. Higher polarization resistance obtained by LPR technique is generally caused by passivation effect in the presence of scales or deposits which can introduce an increased resistance as can low conductivity electrolytes. The reason why noise resistance is lower than polarization resistance is the effect of background noise detected by using three platinum electrodes cell in 0.5M hydrochloric acid. Slope($-\beta$) of power spectral density (PSD) obtained from analysis of noise data ($-\beta$ = 3.3) was much higher than 2 which indicates mild steel corroded uniformly. Localization index (LI) calculated from statistical analysis (LI=0.08) is much lower than 1 which indicates that mild steel did not corroded locally. However, LI value is still higher than $1x10^{-3}$ and this indicates that mild steel corroded locally in microscopic point of view.

Evaluation of High Order Statistical Parameter for Electrochemical Noise Analysis

  • High order statistical parameters were evaluated using the electrochemical noise data collected during corrosion of type 430 stainless steel coupled to a inert, platinum electrode in 3.5% NaCl solution. High order statistical parameters are shown to predict uniform corrosion properly. However, Localization index, skewness of current, kurtosis and skewness of potential are capable of predicting pitting corrosion only when the transients are large with long life time. Of the high order statistical parameters evaluated, kurtosis of current is found to be the most sensitive parameter for detecting uniform and pitting corrosion.

  • Stainless steel has been stably used closed by passivity oxidation films($Cr_2O_3$) is made by neutral atmospheric environment. However, passivity oxidation films of the surface of stainless steel occasionally comes to be destroyed in seawater which is influenced by an environment having halogen ion like $Cl^-$, then, localization corrosion comes to occur. Stainless steel 304 for shaft system material of the small-size FRP fishing boat on seawater environments made an experiment on simulation of sacrifical anode(Al, Zn). Through these experiment and study, following results have been obtained ; According to the field inspection and corrosion simulation, the corrosion on the 2nd class stainless steel shaft(STS 304) in FRP fishing boat has been verified to occur by crevice corrosion and galvanic corrosion etc.. According to the comparison and analysis of Stainless steel 304 shaft materials after simulation leaving unprotected and applying cathodic protection, unprotected shaft specimen of stainless steel 304 was severely corroded, but, protected shaft specimen was not totally corroded. This result is assumed to be made by the facts that anodic reaction, $Fe{\rightarrow}Fe^{2+}$ + $2e^-$, has been restricted by the cathodic protection current of sacrificial anode material.

  • 항공우주산업에서 구조물의 수명연장과 경제적 측면에서의 효율적인 운용을 위해 다양한 구조건전성모니터링(Structural Health Monitoring, SHM) 기법들이 제시되어왔다. 금속재 구조물의 경우, 수분이나 염분 등에 의한 부식이나 쉽게 응력집중이 발생하는 타공, 노치, 볼트 등과 같은 위치에서의 균열이 주된 관심사였으나, 항공우주산업에서의 복합재 사용비율이 증가함에 따라 손상 메커니즘이 더욱 복잡한 복합재 구조물에 적용이 가능한 고도화된 SHM 시스템의 필요성이 강조되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 Q-switched 레이저와 다수의 압전센서를 이용한 복합재에서의 AE(Acoustic emission) 위치탐지 기법을 제시한다. 제시되는 기법은 10 mm 이내의 거리오차로 방출위치 탐지를 목표로 하며 복합재 구조에서 수행된 AE 모사실험 및 위치탐지 시도 결과를 제시하여 기법이 유효함을 증명한다.

  • MFL(Magnetic Flux Leakage) methods are used extensively for inspection of ferromagnetic materials. As an example, pipelines that are buried underground are inspected using MFL methods. By the MFL methods, ferromagnetic pipelines are magnetized by a permanent magnet or an electromagnet and then flux leakage is detected at the defection position. In this paper, we perform modeling of the magnetized pipelines. Also we propose the method localization of th defected areas. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified experimentally.

Low Temperature Interface Modification: Electrochemical Dissolution Mechanism of Typical Iron and Nickel Base Alloys

  • Due to its unique advantages, electrochemical machining (ECM) is playing an increasingly significant role in the manufacture of difficult-to-machine materials. Most of the current ECM research is conducted at room temperature, with studies on ECM in a cryogenic environment not having been reported to date. This study is focused on the electrochemical dissolution characteristics of typical iron and nickel base alloys in NaNO3 solution at low temperature (-10℃). The polarization behaviors and passive film properties were studied by various electrochemical test methods. The results indicated that a higher voltage is required for decomposition and more pronounced pitting of their structures occurs in the passive zone in a cryogenic environment. A more in-depth study of the composition and structure of the passive films by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed that the passive films of the alloys are modified at low temperature, and their capacitance characteristics are more prominent, which makes corrosion of the alloys more likely to occur uniformly. These modified passive films have a huge impact on the surface morphologies of the alloys, with non-uniform corrosion suppressed and an improvement in their surface finish, indicating that lowering the temperature improves the localization of ECM. Together with the cryogenic impact of electron energy state compression, the accuracy of ECM can be further improved.

  • 해양 환경에 노출된 구조물의 잔존수명을 예측하기 위해서는 부식 개시기까지의 염화물 침투와 콘크리트 피복 균열과 같은 콘크리트 구조물의 열화현상에 대하여 시간과 공간적 요소를 고려한 분석적 접근 방법의 개발이 필요하다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 유한요소해석 기법을 이용하여 염해에 노출되어 있는 콘크리트 구조물의 생애주기를 시뮬레이션하는 것을 목표로 한다. 내구성 예측을 위한 환경적 변수와 재료의 불확실성을 고려하기 위하여 신뢰성에 기반한 잔존수명의 예측을 위한 유한요소해석 모델링에 Monte Carlo Simulation 기법을 도입하였다. 본 논문에서는 콘크리트 구조물의 신뢰성에 기반한 잔존 내구수명에 대한 일반적 개념과 염화물 이온 침투, 부식 생성물의 팽창, 피복 균열 등에 대한 유한요소 모델에 대해 설명하고, 마지막으로 예제를 통하여 염화물 이온의 집중, 부식 생성물의 팽창등이 콘크리트 구조물의 잔존수명에 미치는 영향에 대해 논의하였다.
