We present a theoretical formalism by which the global and the local mass functions of dark matter substructures (dark subhalos) can be analytically estimated. The global subhalo mass function is defined to give the total number density of dark subhalos in the universe as a function of mass, while the local subhalo mass function counts only those sub halos included in one individual host halo. We develop our formalism by modifying the Press-Schechter theory to incorporate the followings: (i) the internal structure of dark halos; (ii) the correlations between the halos and the subhalos; (iii) the subhalo mass-loss effect driven by the tidal forces. We find that the resulting (cumulative) subhalo mass function is close to a power law with the slope of ${\~}$ -1, that the subhalos contribute approximately $10\%$ of the total mass, and that the tidal stripping effect changes the subhalo mass function self-similarly, all consistent with recent numerical detections.
Vertical distributions of aerosol mass concentrations over Seoul and Gangneung from January to February 2015 were investigated using aerosol Mie-scattering lidars. Vertical mass concentration of aerosol was calculated from the lidar data using KALION's algorithm and quantitatively compared with ground PM10 concentration to obtain objectivity of data. The backward trajectories calculated using HYSPLIT (version 4) were clustered into 5 traces for Seoul and 6 traces for Gangneung, and the observed aerosol vertical mass distribution was analyzed for individual trajectories. Result from the analysis shows that, aerosol concentrations with in the planetary boundary layer were highest when airflows into the measurement points originated in the Shandong Peninsula or the Inner Mongolia. In addition, the difference of aerosol mass concentrations in the two regions below 1 km was about twice as large as that in the long range transport from the Shandong Peninsula compared to the local emission. This result shows that the air quality over Korea related to particulate matters are affected more by aerosol emissions in the upstream source regions and the associated transboundary transports than local emissions. This study also suggests that the use of local aerosol observations is critical for accurate simulations of aerosol-cloud interactions.

In this study, we propose a practical method to improve the clarity and the period of the beat in a Korean bell. Proper beating in vibration and sound is very important feature in Korean bell. An equivalent ring theory is applied and finite element analysis is performed to determine the condition of the asymmetry of the bell. The clearity and the period of the beat are improved by attaching a counter mass or decreasing local thickness. This paper shows that the improved the attaching a counter mass or decreasing local thickness. This paper of the beat are improved by attaching a counter mass or decreasing local thickness. This paper shows that the amount and position of the local variation for the required beat condition can be predicted by using the equivalent model, The predicted results are verified by the experiment.
Varing the flow velocity of solution and particle diameter, the mass transfer coefficient of the local electrode on current feeder has been measured in an empty flow reactor, an inert fluidized bed electrode reactor, and an active fluidized bed electrode reactor. It had its maximium value when the bed porosity was 0.6 to 0.65 and decreased with in- creasing the height of local electrode. The mass transfer coefficient was found to be high especially when higher particle was fluidized. Electrochemical deposition of copper dissolved in the synthesized wastewater has been performed in the active fluidized bed electrode reactor. The deduction rate was higher than 90% and the residual concentration of copper decreased to less than 5ppm.

The local heat/mass transfer coefficients for arrays of impinging circular air jets on a plane surface are determined by means of the naphthalene sublimation method. Fluid from the spent jets is constrained to flow out of the system in one direction. Therefore, the spent fluid makes a crossflow in the confined space. The present study investigates effects of jet-orifice-plate to impingement-surface spacing and jet Reynolds number. The spanwise- and overall-averaged heat/mass transfer coefficients are obtained by numerical integrating the local heat transfer coefficients. The local maximum heat/mass transfer coefficients move further in the downstream direction due to the increase of crossflow velocity. At the mid-way between adjacent jets, the heat/mass transfer coefficients have a small peak owing to the collision of the adjacent wall jets and are affected strongly by the crossflow. The effect of the crossflow occurs strongly at the small orifice-to-impingement surface distance.

The purpose of this research is to investigate how separated and reattached flow affects mass transfer, by comparing the local mass transfer characteristics on an inclined flat plate with those on a parallel flat plate. The local mass transfer coefficients for the flat plate were measured using the naphthalene sublimation technique; the inclined angle of the flat plate was varied from $-10^{\circ}$ to $10^{\circ}$ at $5^{\circ}$ intervals, and the free-stream velocity was varied from 2m/s to 15m/s. At positive inclined angles, the local Sherwood numbers decreased gradually because the boundary-layer thickness increased. On the other hand, for negative inclined angles, the local Sherwood numbers assumed the minimum value at the separation point of the recirculation flow and the maximum value at the reattachment point. The average Sherwood numbers for both positive and negative inclined angles were lower than those in the case of the parallel plate.

Progressive collapse, which is referred to as the collapse of the entire building under local damages, is a common failure mode happened by earthquakes. The collapse process highly depends on the whole structural system. Since, asymmetry of the building plan leads to the local damage concentration; it may intensify the progressive collapse mechanism of asymmetric buildings. In this research the progressive collapse of regular and irregular 6-story RC ordinary moment resisting frame buildings are studied in the presence of the earthquake loads. Collapse process and collapse propagation are investigated using nonlinear time history analyses (NLTHA) in buildings with 5%, 15% and 25% mass asymmetry with respect to the number of collapsed hinges and story drifts criteria. Results show that increasing the value of mass eccentricity makes the asymmetric buildings become unstable earlier and in the early stages with lower number of the collapsed hinges. So, with increasing the mass eccentricity in building, instability and collapse of the entire building occurs earlier, with lower potential of the progressive collapse. It is also demonstrated that with increasing the mass asymmetry the decreasing trend of the number of collapsed beam and column hinges is approximately similar to the decreasing trend in the average story drifts of the mass centers and stiff edges. So, as an alternative to a much difficult-to-calculate local response parameter of the number of collapsed hinges, the story drift, as a global response parameter, measures the potential of progressive collapse more easily.
An experimental study is carried out to investigate the effects of air and water mass flow rates on cooling characteristics of mist impinging jet on a flat plate. Experiments are conducted with air mass flow rates from 0.0 to 3.0 g/s, and water mass flow rates from 5.0 to 20.0 g/s. An air-atomizing nozzle is used for the purpose of controlling air and water mass flow rates. In this study, a new test section is designed to obtain local heat transfer coefficient distributions. Heat transfer characteristics of the mist impinging jet are explained with the aid of flow visualization. Surface temperature and heat transfer coefficient distributions become more uniform as air mass flow rate increases, and that the increases in water flow rate mainly enhance cooling performance. Air mass flow rate weakly influences averaged heat transfer coefficient when water mass flow rate is low, but averaged heat transfer coefficient increases remarkably as air mass flow rate in case of high water mass flow rate.
The present paper deals with the heat/mass transfer characteristics for the rotating impingement/effusion cooling system. By changing the size and number of injection hole, its effects on heat/mass transfer are investigated and three different injection hole cases are considered such as LH, DH and SH, respectively. Reynolds number based on the effusion hole diameter is fixed to 3,330 and two jet orientations are considered. A naphthalene sublimation method is used to obtain the heat/mass transfer coefficients on the effusion plate. The LH case shows that the local heat/mass transfer is significantly varied by the rotation. Moreover, the low and non-uniform Sh distributions occur because the impinging jet is deflected by Coriolis force. Meanwhile, for DH and SH cases, the local heat/mass transfer coefficients are enhanced significantly compared to LH case and the rotation effect decreases with increasing the jet velocity. The averaged Sh value of DH and SH case rises up to 45%, 85% than that of LH case. However, the uniformity of heat/mass transfer deteriorates due to the steep variation of heat/mass transfer.

An experiment is conducted to investigate the effect of air and water mass flow rates on cooling characteristics of mist impinging jet on a flat plate. The air mass flow rate ranges from 0.0 to 3.0 g/s, and water mass flow rates from 5.0 to 20.0 g/s. An air-atomizing nozzle is used fur the purpose of controlling air and water mass flow rates. The test section is designed distinctively from previous works to obtain local heat transfer coefficient distributions. Heat transfer characteristics of the mist impinging jet are explained with the aid of flow visualization. Surface temperature and heat transfer coefficient distributions become more uniform as air mass flow rate increases. The water flow rate provides substantial contribution to enhancement of cooling performance. On the other hand, The air mass flow rate weakly influences the averaged heat transfer rate when the water mass flow rate is low, but the averaged heat transfer rate Increases remarkably with the air mass flow rate in case of the high water mass flow rate.
