설계점 및 탈설계점에서 비균일 익단 간극을 가지는 축류 압축기의 유동장 예측 (Prediction of flow field in an axial compressor with a non-uniform tip clearance at the design and off-design conditions)

  • Flow structures in an axial compressor with a non-uniform tip clearance were predicted by solving a simple prediction method. For more reliable prediction at the off-design condition, off-design flow characteristics such as loss and flow blockage were incorporated in the model. The predicted results showed that flow field near the design condition is largely dependent on the local tip clearance effect. However overall flow field characteristics are totally reversed at off-design condition, especially at the high flow coefficient. The tip clearance effect decreases, while the local loss and flow blockage make a complicated effect on the compressor flow field. The resultant fluid induced Alford's force has a negative value near the design condition and it reverses its sign as the flow coefficient increases and shows a very steep increase as the flow coefficient increases.

  • The containment local leakage rate testing in nuclear power plants is performed in accordance with ANSI/ANS 56.8-1994 in Korea. Two methods, the make-up flow rate and the pressure decay, are used for local leakage rate testing. Though ANSI/ANS 56.8-1994 does not define clearly the minimum test duration for the make-up flow rate method, it requires obtaining the data after reaching the stable condition. Thus the prerequisite stable condition for data acquisition and the testing time is differently applied to each NPPs. Therefore, this study presents a standardized test procedure for data stabilization and testing time through experiments to improve the test reliability.

사이드 채널형 링블로워의 임펠러 내부 유로에 따른 성능변화 분석 (Analysis of Performance Characteristics by Inner Flow Path of Side Channel Type Ring Blower)

  • This study analyzed performance changes by an inner flow path of impeller groove for side channel type ring blower using CFD. Two models have the same side channel and clearance while one has an inner flow path and the other doesn't. To analyze the performance change of a ring blower, overall performance and local flow field were analyzed. For the overall performance, pressure increase and impeller torque were checked under the design flow condition. Under the design flow condition, pressure increase was greater for the model with the inner flow path. The model with the inner flow path showed improved efficiency because the area subject to torque decreased due to the creation of inner flow path. To analyze local flow field, a section was created from the representative location of each impeller groove toward the direction of radius. Inner channel pressure distribution depending on the rotation direction shows that the model with the inner flow path has pressure equilibrium of working fluid through the inner flow path. Velocity distribution of inside impeller groove shows that flow field was coupled and appeared to form an inner wall where the flow field was stabilized.

Effects of Fracture Intersection Characteristics on Transport in Three-Dimensional Fracture Networks

  • Flow and transport at fracture intersections, and their effects on network scale transport, are investigated in three-dimensional random fracture networks. Fracture intersection mixing rules complete mixing and streamline routing are defined in terms of fluxes normal to the intersection line between two fractures. By analyzing flow statistics and particle transfer probabilities distributed along fracture intersections, it is shown that for various network structures with power law size distributions of fractures, the choice of intersection mixing rule makes comparatively little difference in the overall simulated solute migration patterns. The occurrence and effects of local flows around an intersection (local flow cells) are emphasized. Transport simulations at fracture intersections indicate that local flow circulations can arise from variability within the hydraulic head distribution along intersections, and from the internal no flow condition along fracture boundaries. These local flow cells act as an effective mechanism to enhance the nondiffusive breakthrough tailing often observed in discrete fracture networks. It is shown that such non-Fickian (anomalous) solute transport can be accounted for by considering only advective transport, in the framework of a continuous time random walk model. To clarify the effect of forest environmental changes (forest type difference and clearcut) on water storage capacity in soil and stream flow, watershed had been investigated.

  • An experimental study has been conducted to investigate characteristics of the flow patterns, its transitions and the mean local void fraction obtained from which the probe was traversed diametrically from center to wall of the test section in the vertical upward air-water flow for isothermal condition using the electrical conductivity probe. It has been shown that the probability density function of the mean local void fraction measured statistically from a Fast Fourier Transform becomes a criterion for the flow patterns and the mean local void fraction profile is a highly function of the flow patterns.

앞날 및 뒷날 유동 특성을 고려한 표면양력판 이론에 의한 2차원수중익 단면해석 (A Surface Panel Method for the Analysis of Hydrofoils wih Emphasis on Local Flows around the Leading and Trailing Edges)

  • 2차원 날개 단면 주위 유동문제를 포텐셜장에서의 표면양력판이론에 의하여 해석하였고 수치해석 효율을 증대시키기 위한 방법을 제시하였다. 날개 뒷날에서 유동이 쐐기 주위의 유동과 유사하다는 특성을 이용하여 계산효율을 증대시키기 위한 쐐기형 쿠타 조건(wedge type Kutta condition)을 제시하였다. 또한 쐐기형 계산효율을 증대시키기 위하여 세부 분할 방법을 적용하였다. 즉 날개 뒷날 부근의 4개의 양력판을 세분하고 세분된 양력판에서의 다이폴세기는 쐐기 주위 유동특성을 따르게 하였다. 세부분할 방법에 의한 쐐기형 쿠타조건을 2차원 날개단면 문제에 적용하였을 경우 수치계산 효율이 증가됨이 보였다. 날개 앞날에서의 유동은 앞날 반경(leading edge radius)을 갖는 원에 접하는 포물선(osculating parabola) 주위의 유동과 유사하다는 특성을 이용하여 비교적 적은 양력판 갯수에 의한 계산결과로부터 날개 앞날 주위의 유동을 정확히 계산하였다. 날개 앞날 주위의 급격한 유동변화를 정확히 계산함으로써 캐비테이션 발생 문제 및 날개 주위 경계층 문제를 계산하기 위한 정도 높은 입력자료를 제공할 수 있게 되었다.

  • A new a posteriori error estimator is introduced and applied to variational inequalities occurring in problems of flow through porous media. In order to construct element-wise a posteriori error estimates the global error is localized by a special mixed formulation in which continuity conditions at interfaces are treated as constraints. This approach leads to error indicators which provide rigorous upper bounds of the element errors. A discussion of a compatibility condition for the well-posedness of the local error analysis problem is given. Two numerical examples are solved to check the compatibility of the local problems and convergence of the effectivity index both in a local and a global sense with respect to local refinements.

  • The CHF phenomenon has been investigated for water flow under forced and natural circulation modes with vertical round tubes at low pressure and low flow condition. Experiments have been performed by using three different test sections for mass fluxes below 400 kg/㎡s under near atmospheric pressure. The experimental data for forced and natural circulation are compared with each other. To predict the flow rate at the two-phase region our test condition has been analyzed by RELAP5/MOD3 because the local two-phase condition inside the stainless steel tube cannot be directly measured. To predict the CHF with accuracy we have to consider the parameters at the single-phase region as well as the flow behavior at the two-phase region.

Experimental Study and Correlation Development of Critical Heat Flux under Low Pressure and Low Flow Condition

  • To investigate parametric effect on CHF and to get CHF data, experimental study has been performed with vertical round tubes under the condition of low pressure and low flow (LPLF). Test sections are made of Inconel-625 tube and have the geometry of 8 and 10 mm in diameter, and 0.5 and 1.0 m in heated length. All experiments have been conducted at the pressure of under 9 bar, the mass flux of under 250 kg/$m^2$ and the inlet subcooling of 350 and 450 kJ/kg, for stable upward flow with water as a coolant. Flow regime analysis has been performed for obtained CHF data with Mishima's flow regime map, which reveals that most of the CHF occur in the annular-mist flow regime. General parametric trends of the collected CHF data are consistent with those of previous studies. However, for the pressure effect on CHF, two different are observed; For relatively high mass flux, CHF increases with pressure and far lower mass flux, CHF decrease with pressure. Using modern data regression tool, ACE algorithm, two new CHF correlations for LPLF condition are developed based on local condition and inlet condition, respectively. The developed CHF correlations show better prediction accuracy compared with existing CHF prediction methods.

국지풍이 내륙의 안개발생에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Local Wind on Occurrence of Fog at Inland Areas)

  • We have examined the influence of local wind on occurrence of fog at two inland areas, Chuncheon and Andong, in Korea. The surrounding topography of two inland areas shows significant difference: Chuncheon is located in the basin surrounded by ridges with north-south axis while Andong is located in the valley between the ridges with east-west axis. Occurrence of fog shows maximum in October at both sites but high occurrence of fog at Chuncheon is also noted in the winter. Occurrence of fog at Andong in October is much larger than that at Chuncheon. High occurrence of fog in October is due to favorable synoptic condition for fog formation such as weak wind, clear day and small depression of the dew-point. Fog occurrence at Chuncheon is closely related to very weak wind condition where wind speed is less than $0.5m\;s^{-1}$. The weak wind at Chuncheon in winter is due that pressure driven channeling wind (southerly) cancels out partly downslope northerly flow during nighttime. On the other hand, fog at Andong occurs well when wind is southeasterly which is thermally forced flow during nighttime. Southeasterly provides cold, moist air from the narrow valley to Andong during nighttime, leading to favorable condition for formation of fog.
