  • The usage of the correct combustion properties of the treated substance for the safety of the process is critical. For the safe handling of n-nonane being used in various ways in the chemical industry, the flash point and the autoignition temperature(AIT) of n-nonane was experimented. And, the explosion limit of n-nonane was calculated by using the flash point obtained in the experiment. The flash points of n-nonane by using the Setaflash and Pensky-Martens closed-cup testers measured $31^{\circ}C$ and $34^{\circ}C$, respectively. The flash points of n-nonane by using the Tag and Cleveland open cup testers are measured $37^{\circ}C$ and $42^{\circ}C$. The AIT of n-nonane by ASTM 659E tester was measured as $210^{\circ}C$. The lower explosion limit by the measured flash point $31^{\circ}C$ was calculated as 0.87 vol%. And the upper explosion limit by the measured upper flash point $53^{\circ}C$ was calculated as 2.78 vol%. It was possible to predict lower explosion limit by using the experimental flash point or flash point in the literature.

  • The combustible properties(flash point, explosion limit and autoignition temperature) are the important safety items which are considered in the typical MSDS(material safety data sheet). In this study, for the safe handling of n-butyl methacrylate(n-BMA) being used in various ways in the chemical industry, the flash point and the autoignition temperature(AIT) of n-butyl methacrylate was experimented. And, the lower explosion limit of n-butyl methacrylate was calculated by using the lower flash point obtained in the experiment. The flash points of n-butyl methacrylate by using the Tag and Cleveland open cup testers are measured $53^{\circ}C$. The AIT of n-butyl methacrylate by ASTM 659E tester was measured as $295^{\circ}C$. The lower explosion limit by the measured flash point $44^{\circ}C$ was calculated as 0.85 vol.%. It was possible to predict lower explosion limit by using the experimental flash point or flash point in the literature.

  • A limit point p of a Mobius group acting on$ B^m$ is called a concentration point if for every sufficiently small connected open neighborhood of p, the set of translates contains a local basis for the topology of p. For the case of two generator Schottky groups acting on $B^2$, we give characterizations for several different kinds of limit points.

  • In the present study, the limit point buckling and postbuckling behaviors of sinusoidal, shallow arches with pinned supports subjected to localized sinusoidal loading, based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, are numerically analyzed. There are some studies on the buckling of sinusoidal shallow arches under the effect of sinusoidal loading. However, in these studies, the sinusoidal loading acts along the horizontal projection of the entire shallow arch. No study has been found in the relevant literature pertaining to the stability of the shallow arches subjected to various lengths of sinusoidal loading. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to contribute to the literature by examining the effect of the length of the localized sinusoidal loading and the initial rise of the shallow arch on the limit point buckling and postbuckling behaviors. Equilibrium paths corresponding to certain values of the length of the localized sinusoidal loading and various values of the initial rise parameter are presented. It has been observed that the length of the sinusoidal loading and the initial rise parameter affects the transition from no buckling to limit point instability remarkably. The deformed configurations of the sinusoidal shallow arch under localized loading regarding buckling and postbuckling states are illustrated, as well. The effects of the length of the localized sinusoidal loading on the internal forces of the shallow arch are investigated during various stages of the loading.

  • Hawkes process is a self-exciting simple point process with clustering effect whose jump rate depends on its entire past history. We consider Hawkes processes with uniform immigrants which is a special case of the Hawkes processes with renewal immigrants. We study the limit theorems for Hawkes processes with uniform immigrants. In particular, we obtain a law of large number, a central limit theorem, and a large deviation principle.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for structural reliability with the response surface method. For this aim, an approach with three stages is proposed named as improved response surface method. In the algorithm, firstly, a quadratic approximate function is formed and design point is determined with First Order Reliability Method. Secondly, a point close to the exact limit state function is searched using the design point. Lastly, vector projected method is used to generate the sample points and Second Order Reliability Method is performed to obtain reliability index and probability of failure. Five numerical examples are selected to illustrate the proposed algorithm. The limit state functions of three examples (cantilever beam, highly nonlinear limit state function and dynamic response of an oscillator) are defined explicitly and the others (frame and truss structures) are defined implicitly. ANSYS finite element program is utilized to obtain the response of the structures which are needed in the reliability analysis of implicit limit state functions. The results (reliability index, probability of failure and limit state function evaluations) obtained from the improved response surface are compared with those of Monte Carlo Simulation, First Order Reliability Method, Second Order Reliability Method and Classical Response Surface Method. According to the results, proposed algorithm gives better results for both reliability index and limit state function evaluations.

  • In this paper we study a pointwise version of Walters topological stability in the class of homeomorphisms on a compact metric space. We also show that if a sequence of homeomorphisms on a compact metric space is uniformly expansive with the uniform shadowing property, then the limit is expansive with the shadowing property and so topologically stable. Furthermore, we give examples to illustrate our results.
