  • Recently prestressed concrete bridges are generally used instead of reinforced concrete. PSC is more durable than RC because it can reduce crack problems, reinforcement corrosion, leakage and carbonation etc. And also PSC is more effective because there is no crack in tension area, and the entire concrete section is considered in section analysis. And it can reduce section size because vertical component by prestressing force can reduce the shear force. However, using high strength concrete can increase the self weight of bridge because of it's higher density. So the hollowed PPC girder with light weight aggregate can be a alternative. In this study the hollowed PPC girder with light weight aggregate is designed and the performance of hollowed PPC girder is evaluated by experimental tests as well as numerical analysis. As a result, The hollowed PPC girder of light aggregate behaved fully elastically under service load of 110kN, and the plastic behavior was showed after elastic behavior through experimental test, and it can be also estimated by numerical analysis.

  • In this study, strain properties of high strength concrete using light weight aggregate which is widely used in recent years are evaluated. For these purpose, thermal strain, transient creep were measured in prestressed condition as 0, 20, 40% of specimen strength at target temperature with 60MPa specimens which was using normal and light weight aggregate. As a result, light weight aggregate is more advantageous for the control of strain than normal aggregate because of its low thermal expansion.

  • Normally, Structural light-weight aggregate concrete(LWC) has been main used in high rise building with the object of wight loss. In spite of LWC have the advantage of light-weight, limit the use of strength restrictions by reason that explosive spalling in fire. Especially, LWC is occurred serious fire performance deterioration by explosive spalling. Thus, this study is concerned with fire performance of LWC for the purpose of using PP fibers prevent to explosive spalling. From the experimental test result, LWC is happened explosive spalling.

  • Light-weight concrete uses forming agents for reducing weight and high heat insulation property. However, the forming agents make problems of decreased volume and compressive strength of the concrete. This research aims to having weight-reduction and securing heat insulation property using recycled wasted form polyurethane without any forming agents. A small quantity of admixture used for constructability and avoiding material segregation. We picked admixtures from two different companies which shows evenly dispersed of wasted form polyurethane. This research conducts a study on the effect of mixing ratio of admixture on the light-weight concrete used wasted form polyurethane. As a result of the test, increased mixing ratio of the admixtures results reduced fluidity of concrete. On the other hand, percentage of moisture content and compressive strength are increased slightly. Combustibility performance and sound insulation performance are also secured, as well.

  • Aggregate thermal properties and cooling methods are most important to evaluate the residual mechanical properties of concrete. In this study, we evaluate the residual mechanical properties of concrete according to the aggregate type and cooling method. We use the normal weight aggregate and light weight aggregate which have different thermal properties. After heating to the target temperature, we evaluate the mechanical properties according to the slow and fast cooling condition. As a result, normal weight aggregate concrete has higher effectiveness of cooling conditions than light weight aggregate concrete.

  • A recent development of seismic design, which is required among environmentally friendly members, increased the concern on light-weight concrete. Extending around the building, the structural design which is applied for light-weight concrete has been increased. This study therefore evaluates the bending resistance and the shear resistance involved using four specimens that were manufactured and tested. The parameters used in this study exist. This study investigates the structural performance of composite slab using light-weight concrete with KCI (2007).

  • Applying previous studies performed in the moisture transportation characteristics and shrinkage of lightweight concrete application of shrinkage reduction is to discuss. Applicability of shrinkage reduction effect of lightweight concrete applies for the analysis of PSC girder bridge beam placed on the construction site. Stress of the concrete bridge deck, rebar quantity is calculated by effective elastic modulus method and crack risk is assessed by moisture transport and differential shrinkage analysis. After approximately 10 days maximum tensile stress occurs 6MPa, similar to the case of normal concrete, a maximum tensile stress occurs 3MPa in lightweight concrete and comparing to normal concrete stress was reduced to approximately 50%. Normal and lightweight concrete crack index, respectively, is reduced 1.6 to 1.2, 1.2 to 0.9 in surface and boundary region. Therefore, reduction in shrinkage of concrete were able to confirm reduction of crack risk.

  • This paper presents the flexural behavior & ultimate strength performance of innovative light weight sandwich panels of size $3{\times}1.2m$ with two different solidity ratios viz. 0.5 and 0.33 under out of plane bending load. From the experimental studies, it is observed that the flexural strength and the stiffness are increased by about 46% and five folds for lesser solidity ratio case. From the measured strains of the shear connectors, full shear transfer between the concrete wythes is observed. The yielding occurred approximately at 4% and 0.55% of the ultimate deformation for 100 mm & 150 mm thick panels, which shows the large ductility characteristics of the panels. From the study, it is inferred that the light weight sandwich panels behave structurally in a very similar manner to reinforced concrete panels. Further from the numerical study, it is observed that the numerical values obtained by FE analysis are in good agreement with the experimental observations.

  • The various properties of concrete have been required, as civil engineering structures are getting larger and complicated. Therefore, the high performance of concrete, such as high strength, high fluidity, and low hydration heat, has been investigated largely. In this study, the properties of lightweight concrete-reducing self-weight of structure member have been studied in order to check the applicability of lightweight aggregate concrete to structural material. The experiments on compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, unit weight, and modulus of elasticity have been conducted with varying PLC, LWCI, LWCII, LWCII-SF5, LWCII-SF15 to check the basic properties. The compressive strength of 21MPa was obtained easily by using lightweight aggregate concrete and the addition of silica fume to increase the compressive strength slightly. To use lightweight aggregate concrete for civil engineering structures, systematic and rigorous studies are necessary.

  • Recently, it is increased the use of High-Strength Light-Weight Concrete(HLC) in the high-rise buildings and mega-structures. But there are a few research on the bond behavior of HLC, so it need to study about that. The present study was performed to investigate the bond characteristics of HLC. Major test variables include concrete compressive strength(f'c), concrete cover(c), bond length (${\ell}_{db}$), and bar diameter($d_b$). Test results indicate that the bond stress of HLC is increased with the increment of $\sqrt{f'_c}$ and concrete cover, bond stress is decreased with increment of bond length and bar diameter. And the final failure mode such as splitting or pullout failure is significantly affected by the concrete cover to bar diameter ratios(C/$d_b$). Test results were compared with ACI code and other proposed equations. The bond stress of HLC is higher than that of normal-strength normal-weight concrete, but lower than that of high-strength normal-weight concrte. Considering the present test results, modification factor(${\lambda}$= 1.3) of bond length in ACI 318-95 code for light-weight concrete is may have to be reviewed to apply to HLC.
