Industrialized and modular construction is a growing construction technique that can transfer a large portion of the construction process to off-site fabrication yards. This method of construction often involves the fabrication, pre-assembly, and transportation of massive and long volumetric modules. The module weight keeps increasing as the modules become more complete (with infill) to minimize the work at the site and, as higher productivity can be achieved at the fabrication shop. Thus, a volumetric module delivery gets more challenging and risky. Despite its importance, past research paid relatively insufficient attention to the problem related to the lifting of heavy modules. This can be a complex and time-consuming problem with multiple lifting for transportation-and-installation operations both in fabrication yard and jobsite, and require complex crane operations (sometimes, more than one crane) due to crane load capacity and load balance/stability. This study investigates this problem by focusing on the structural perspective of lifting such long volumetric modules through simulation studies. Various scenarios of lifting a weighty module from the top using four lifting cables attached to crane hooks (either a single crane or double crane) are simulated in SAP software. The simulations account for various factors pertaining to structural indices, e.g., bending stress and deflection, to identify a proper method of module lifting from a structural point of view. The method can identify differences in structural indices allowing identification of structural efficiency and safety levels during lifting, which further allows the selection of the number of cranes and location of lifting points.
Construction of roof structure, cable suspended structure, for Pusan main stadium is adapted a lifting method that is VSL lifting system. 5 processes are practiced for erection of the roof structure including the first lifting process for erection of upper cables and the second lifting process for erection of lower cables. Since all cables of this roof structure with two open spelter sockets are determined their length, some cable were wrong length, he roof structure would be unstable. But, At complete of erection for the roof structure each cable is attained to theoretical tension force with average 4% errors.

Since various methods for repairing and rehabilitating have been applied to damaged bridges to increase their load carrying capacity, many researches on the methods have been widely carried out. In particular, In terms of applicability, strengthening efficiency and economical efficiency, external tendons using lifting hole anchorage system is the most effective method among the aforementioned methods. In order to verify the strengthening effectiveness, flexural experiments on the beams strengthened with external tendons using lifting hole anchorage system were carried out. The experiments were conducted on two groups of systems, the existing and the proposed external tendons using lifting hole anchorage system. In addition, An evaluation on ductility of the beams were conducted in this paper.
Lifting plan in the large spacial structure is an important factor influencing the efficiency and economy of the construction process. The purpose of this study was deriving the requirements for lifting techniques as the basic research in the double spoke wheel roof structure construction. In the lift up erection method, management plan of the interference error in the column and outer-ring was needed that occur during lifting roof structure. In the bent erection method, material usage reduction plan was required by the structural design of the temporary bent. In the hybrid erection method, lifting plan was needed that minimizes weather condition and crane usage. All lifting techniques were required Value Engineering model for reduction of cost and construction period.
The purpose of this study was the analytical safety evaluation on the super-structure of precast modular bridge using standardized modular members and robotic construction during the transportation routing and lifting conditions. In order to evaluate the safety performance of the bridge system, 3-D full scale Finite Element (FE) of 40 m standardized modular block was developed in ABAQUS, followed by the analytical study to classify the structural system according to steel girder structures: 1) modular bridge block lifting method including the steel girder system; 2) modular bridge block lifting method without the steel girder system. The results from the analytical study revealed that the maximum stress of each modular member was within the maximum allowable stresses during lifting condition. However, the stress concentration at the connected area was more critical in comparison to the behavior of 40 m combined modular blocks during lifting time
It is well-known that lifting capacity of a worker is influenced by body posture during the task. When a task analyst make use of RULA and REBA Trunk and upper arm angles are recorded in a separate item. It means that the interaction between the angles of two body segments may be ignored in a final score. The NLE(NIOSH Lifting Equation) has been used to supplement this problem. However, there is no study to validate the result of RWL (Recommended Workload Limit) under the existence of interactions between trunk and upper arm angles. The goal of this study was to assess the effect of the interaction between trunk and upper arm angles. Three responses, including NMVC(normalized maximum voluntary contraction), RWL(Recommended Weight Limit) and subjective judgment in psychophysical method (Borg's scale), were recorded according to the combinations of three trunk angles and nine upper arm angles. The results showed that lifting capacity is highly influenced by interaction of two body segments(trunk and upper arm). It means that the task workload has to be analyzed along with the interaction of trunk angles and upper arm angles when the task analyst assesses potential risk factors on the postures. This study may be able to be a fundamental study to develop an assessment method for lifting task analyses according to body postures.
The purpose of this study was to develop an innovative training model and method to improve the posture and motion, while pulling up during weight lifting by evaluating the problems of Korean weight lifters performing this motion. To investigate the effectiveness of the new training method substitute members of the Korean national weight lifting team performed both the original pull up technique and new pulling training technique while kinetics and kinematics were recorded. For this study, the first phase of the new training method is more appropriate than the original training with the pull up drop slow deadlift to the knee joint. For the second phase, the new training motion is deemed to be more effective than the current box deadlift motion. Also, this new motion corrects the posture as there is more anterior hip joint motion(about 10 cm) and the knee flexes to about 120 degrees. For the third phase, starting about 10cm above the knee the box snatch high pull up is identified as a more suitable training method. For the forth phase, the box top snatch method is judged to be a more effective training method than the original top snatch training method.
The purpose of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the right shoulder's muscle activity when lifting ipsilateral and contralateral legs during the Push Up Plus (PUP) exercise, which is a typical shoulder stabilizing exercise, and to provide effective data for a shoulder stabilization exercise. Upper trapezius, lower trapezius, levator scapula, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, deltoid posterior, serratus anterior and pectoralis major, which are eight main muscles of a shoulder, were analyzed for the left and right leg lifting by using an electromyogram (EMG). The study revealed that the muscle activities of the right shoulder's upper trapezius, levator scapula, supraspinatus, serratus anterior and pectoralis major were higher when lifting an ipsilateral (right side) leg, compared to lifting a contralateral (left side) leg. Therefore, lifting an ipsilateral leg can be an effective method for enhancing the maneuverability (mobility) of the right shoulder when lifting a single leg.
The purposes of this study were to examine the effect of two different pelvic alignments and the Valsalva maneuver on electromyographic (EMG) activity of the erector spinae during squat lifting and lowering, and to find an efficient method for squat lifting and lowering. Twenty hea1thy men in their twenties lifted and lowered loads using four different methods: 1) anterior pelvic tilt position with the Valsalva maneuver, 2) anterior pelvic tilt position without the Valsalva maneuver, 3) posterior pelvic tilt with the Valsalva maneuver, 4) posterior pelvic tilt without the Valsalva maneuver. The EMG activity of erector spinae was recorded during both lifting and lowering with each method. The EMG activity of each individual was normalized to EMG activity produced by muscle during maximal voluntary contraction. Two-way analysis of variance for repeated measures ($2{\times}2$) was used to analyze the effect of the two factors: 1) pelvic tilt position (anterior pelvic tilt, posterior pelvic tilt), 2) the Valsalva maneuver (with and without). Analysis was performed separately for the lifting and lowering. The results were as follows: 1) EMG activity of erector spinae was greater when the pelvis was tilted anteriorly than when the pelvis was tilted posteriorly during squat lifting and squat lowering. 2) There was no difference between EMG activity of erector spinae with the Valsalva maneuver and EMG activity of erector spinae without the Valsalva maneuver during squat lifting and squat lowering. These results suggest that the greater EMG activity of erector spinae with an anterior pelvic tilt position during squat lifting and squat lowering may ensure optimal muscular support for the spine while handling loads, but the Valsalva maneuver may have less effect on erector spinae.
In this paper, we propose a method of applying a lifting-based wavelet domain e-median filter (LBWDEMF) for image restoration. LBWDEMF helps in reducing the number of computations. An e-median filter is a type of modified median filter that processes each pixel of the output of a standard median filter in a binary manner, keeping the output of the median filter unchanged or replacing it with the original pixel value. Binary decision-making is controlled by comparing the absolute difference of the median filter output and the original image to a preset threshold. In addition, the advantage of LBWDEMF is that probabilities of encountering root images are spread over sub-band images, and therefore the e-median filter is unlikely to encounter root images at an early stage of iterations and generates a better result as iteration increases. The proposed method transforms an image into the wavelet domain using lifting-based wavelet filters, then applies an e-median filter in the wavelet domain, transforms the result into the spatial domain, and finally goes through one spatial domain e-median filter to produce the final restored image. Moreover, in order to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method we compare the result obtained using the proposed method to those using a spatial domain median filter (SDMF), spatial domain e-median filter (SDEMF), and wavelet thresholding method. Experimental results show that the proposed method is superior to SDMF, SDEMF, and wavelet thresholding in terms of image restoration.
