Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the roles and function of family in mediating the relationship between depression and quality of life of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Most studies have found that depression is particularly common in patients with PD and further associated with poor quality of life. Family function, as a mediator, is based on a strength orientation perspective that emphasizes not only their responsibilities and risks but also recuperative powers and growth potential. Methods: Overall 157 adults with idiopathic Parkinson's disease were enrolled in this study via outpatient clinic and completed a set of assessment to measure depression using BDI, family APGAR questionnaire, and patients' quality of life using PDQ-8. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the mediating role of family APGAR score in the relationship between BDI and PDQ-8. Results: Patients' depression, gait disturbance, duration of illness, and family function were statistically significant on quality of life. These factors accounted for 60% of the variance in quality of life. Family function has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between depression and quality of life. Conclusion: Findings from the study suggest that although PD patients' depression impacts their quality of life, by having strong family function, the extent to which depression impacts the quality of life can be favorably mitigated. Additionally, these outcomes have important implications for future model development regarding PD patients.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting the life satisfaction during the communal life of the elderly in rural areas. Methods: A total of 143 subjects were selected through convenient sampling. Data were collected in self-reporting questionnaires from 1 August to 30 August 2019. From obtained the results, the relationship between the wheel life and the average sectional chip area is examined to guide for the determination of dressing time.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing quality of life in kidney transplant recipients and to understand the concrete pathway of influence and the power of each variable, so that integrated prediction model to promote the quality of life of kidney transplant recipients could be developed. Methods: The sample was composed of 218 patients in follow-up care after a kidney transplant in one of 4 university hospitals in the Honam area. A structured questionnaire was used and the collected data were analyzed for fitness, using the LISREL program. Results: This model was concise and extensive in predicting the quality of life of kidney transplant recipients. Conclusion: The research verified the factors influencing quality of life for kidney transplant recipients and it verified that direct factors such as perception of health state, compliance, self-efficacy, stress and indirect factors such as self-efficacy and social support can be important factors to predict the quality of life for recipients. Moreover, those variables represent 87% of variance in explaining quality of life in a prediction model so that the variables can be utilized to predict quality of life for kidney transplant recipients.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors contributing to health-related quality of life in patients under rehabilitation after stroke. Methods: A descriptive correlational study design was used. Ninety-two stroke patients under rehabilitation from a university hospital were included. Data were collected on March and April, 2013 using structured questionnaires. Hierarchial multiple regression analysis was used to identify factors influencing health-related quality of life. Results: There were significant differences in health-related quality of life according to type of impairment. The health-related quality of life had significant correlations with age, functional dependency, and stress. Factors influencing health-related quality of life for stroke patients under rehabilitation were stress, functional dependency, type of impairment, and age, which explained about 34.5% of total variance. Conclusion: To promote health-related quality of life for stroke patients under rehabilitation, stress and functional dependency should be managed in this population, especially for older adults. Also these results can be utilized in the development of program for helping rehabilitation of stroke patients. The effect of depression and anxiety on health-related quality of life should also be addressed in future research.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a finding meaning in life CD program about life-esteemed education and to identify the effect of the program. Methods: The life-esteemed education philosophy and the concepts of logotherapy were applied as a theoretical framework for this program. This program was developed through the process of planning, designing, developing, and evaluating with a content validity test. To identify the effect of the program, one experimental group design was applied to 54 students. Data were collected before the program started and one week and five weeks after the program finished. Results: The program was developed based on the students' needs and evaluation of the CD's content and consists of five periods: Dinosaur Park of Promise, Hill of Fragrance, Garden of Love, Forest of Acceptance, and My Lake. Each post-test score of knowledge, attitude, and practice on meaning of life was significantly higher than pretest scores. Conclusion: This program can be effective for life-esteemed education in elementary school students. Moreover, it is encouraged that the program will be utilized in more life-esteemed education for elementary school students.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the levels of life satisfaction and identify factors influencing life satisfaction in Korean baby-boomer men with drinking problems. Methods: The study used cross-sectional design with secondary analysis of the 7th data of Korean Welfare Penal Study collected in 2012 from 6,000 Korean households. Among 1,572 baby-boomers born between 1955 and 1963, 349 men with a drinking problem were selected as a sample by the Alcohol Use Identification Test (AUDIT) scores. Levels of depression, self-esteem, and life satisfaction were measured. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression were conducted with SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: The findings indicated that the mean AUDIT score was 13.7. Means were 2.8 for depression, 20.2 for self-esteem, and 23.2 for life satisfaction. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that self-esteem, depression, educational level, and levels of problem drinking significantly predicted life satisfaction, explaining 41.1% of the variance. Conclusion: Problem drinking, depression, and self-esteem were important to improve life satisfaction among Korean baby-boomer men. Further study is necessary to examine the mediating effects of depression and self-esteem in the relationship between problem drinking and life satisfaction.
Purpose: Professional quality of life is the quality one feels in relation to their work as a helper. The purpose of this study was to describe professional quality of life among emergency nurses. Methods: A total of 15 emergency rooms were selected in three cities. Among 263 nurses working at these emergency rooms, 178 nurses consented to participate in this cross-sectional survey. Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) Scale version 5 was used to measure compassion satisfaction, burnout and secondary traumatic stress. Cluster analysis was used to classify nurses according to professional quality of life. The result of cluster analysis according to standardized score of compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress yielded three clusters. Over 50% of participants showed low professional quality of life. Nurses who were included in a cluster representing low professional quality of life were younger, had shorter periods of nursing experience, and perceivedlower social support than other cluster. Conclusion: Education or support programs for emergency nurses are needed to enhance their professional quality of life.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test a model for quality of life among infertile women. This model was based primarily on the concept of the Fertility Quality of Life by Boivin et al. (2011) and the Infertility Resilience Model by Rindenour (2009). Methods: Fifteen measurable variables were used to estimate quality of life. They included endogenous variables such as fertility quality of life and resilience, and exogenous variables such as infertility related stress, depression, marital adjustment, and family support. Data sets (n=203) used for analysis were collected in a general hospital which had, on average, 400 assisted reproductive technologies per month. Results: The assessment of the modified model indicated acceptable fit, with $x^2/d.f$=2.07, GFI=.90, AGFI=.89, NFI=.89, CFI=.91, RMSEA=.07. Depression, infertility related stress, marital adjustment, resilience, and family support had direct influences on quality of life. Conclusion: The results of this study should contribute to the development of nursing intervention programs to enhance quality of life using factors that affect fertiQol (fertility quality of life) of infertile women.
