  • The goal of this study was to examine the current status of science teachers’ stage of concern (SOC) and level of use (LoU) on descriptive assessment and determine the relationship between SoC and LoU. To achieve this, concerns-based adoption model (CBAM) was used, and a survey was conducted on 138 science teachers. The data from this study were analyzed by frequency analysis, percentile analysis based on CBAM, χ2 test, and Spearman correlation analysis. SoC and LoU of the science teachers observed in this study are as follows. First, the science teachers’ overall SoC for the descriptive assessment was low and showed a typical pattern of the initial stage when the program was introduced. Second, LoU analysis on descriptive assessment showed that the “mechanical Use” (N=49, 35.5%) or “routine” (N=48, 34.8%) accounted for the majority. Third, the Spearman correlation between SoC and LoU on descriptive assessment was .299(p<.01). This suggests that teachers’ SoC needs to be increased in order to promote higher LoU on descriptive assessment, which requires new alternative measures.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the correlation between mother's characteristics and obesity index, percentage of body fat, total cholesterol, and serum leptin levels in obese children. Method: Sixty two students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades were selected from two elementary schools located in the suburbs of Seoul. Mother's characteristics were collected by questionnaires. Biophysical indexes were as follows; obesity indexes were calculated by height and weight, percentages of body fat were measured by a bioelectrical impedence fatness analyzer, total cholesterol levels were measured by a Hitachi automatic analyzer, and serum leptin levels were measured by the immunoradiometric assay method. Result: The degree of mother's concern for their children's obesity showed a statistically significant positive correlation with biophysical indexes such as obesity index and serum leptin level in obese children. However, there were no significant correlations between mother's economic state, education level, occupation and biophysical indexes. Also, there were no significant correlations between mother's concern for their children's obesity and percentage of body fat, and serum cholesterol levels. Conclusion: These results indicate that mother's concern for their children's obesity is one of the most important factors in child obesity.

  • Increasing Public Concern : Pesticide residue is probably one of the fastest growing problems in regard to environmental contamination. Pesticide use in agriculture in this century has produced certain benefits, including a decrease in crop waste and an increase in crop yields and food quality. However, pesticide use also creates problems of having effects on the environment and remaining in food chain. The presence of pesticide residue in food, water, and soil has aroused public concern over potential health hazards. Despite information provided by national and private level agencies suggesting that food is safe, consumer groups worldwide are demanding assurance as to the safely of agricultural products.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure middle and high school students' stage of concern(SoC) and their level of use(LoU) on the self-directed learning in science learning based on the CBAM(Concern-Based Adoption Model). Additionally, this research was designed to analyze the difference between the degree of students' SoC and their LoU according to the their background variables. For this, 440 middle and high school students participated in the research. The results of this study were as follow: Firstly, since the students' SoC and LoU about the self-directed learning in science learning are low(Stage0 : awareness and Level II : preparation), we should draw students' immediate concern by developing training programs that would enable them to actually participate in the process of implementing the self-directed learning. Secondly, the students' SoC and LoU on self-directed learning in science learning vary depending on their residence, gender, and grade. This is the reason why we have to develop customized training programs on self-directed learning that suits their background. Thirdly, it shows that students, who have higher concern on self-directed learning in science learning, implement it better than those who are not concerned with it at all. It implies that we need a training program that considers both the students' concern and implementation on self-directed learning in science learning.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a quantitative toxicity endpoint distance suitable for the initial response of firefighters by comparing and analyzing the commonly applied toxic level of concern (T-LOC), specifically emergency response planning guidelines (ERPG), acute exposure guideline levels (AEGL), and immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH). This is to protect the fire brigade, which responds to toxic chemical accidents first during the golden time. Using areal locations of hazardous atmospheres, a damage prediction program, the amount of leakage for both acidic and basic substances, along with the endpoint distance, were analyzed for alternative accident and worst-case accident scenarios. The results showed that the toxicity endpoint distance, serving as a compromise between Level-3 and Level-2 of T-LOC, was longer than ERPG-3 and shorter than ERPG-2 with IDLH, while its values were analyzed in the order of ERPG-2, AEGL-2, IDLH, AEGL-3, and ERPG-3. It is suggested that the application of IDLH in an emergency (red card) and ERPG-2 endpoint distance in a non-emergency (non-red card) can be utilized for the initial response of the fire brigade.

  • This study went beyond making an indicator simply based on theoretical arguments, and explored a wide spectrum of different types of perceptions about energy safety to make a concept of energy safety for the Korean society. The energy safety schemata of people can be divided into three types. Type1 is concern about multi-level risks-responsibility-centric, type2 is concern about security and personal burden-expertise-centric, and type3 is concern about health and personal burden-responsibility-centric. Questions were designed on the basis of the characteristics, differences and commonalities of the three types of perceptions, explored through the Q methodology, and Koreans' perception of nuclear safety was examined. Based on the results of this research the following components of trust in nuclear safety were derived, risk perception, responsibility, honesty, expertise and procedural justification. The items for specifically evaluating them were developed, and factor analysis was conducted, and as a result, the validity of each item was proven. The components of the nuclear safety trust indicator do not exist independently, but influence each other continuously through interactions. For this reason, rather than focusing on any one of them, laws and systems must be improved first so that they can move together in one big frame.

  • The study investigates some psychological and environmental factors affecting the intention to purchase organic foods of consumers in the inner-city of Hanoi. Impact factors applied for the study include three psychological factors (health concern, environmental concern, consumer awareness of organic foods) and seven environment factors (family's opinion, friends and colleagues' opinion, influence of celebrities, expert's opinion, social status, mass media, state's encouragement). We analyzed research data from 396 consumers to measure the impacting level of these factors. The convenient sampling method was used to collect the research sample. The measurement applied a 5-point Likert scale classifying from 1-completely disagree to 5-completely agree. Based on previous studies, the research model was recommended. We had estimated the reliability of the scales through Cronbach's Alpha and composite reliability. The research data is analyzed by using Structural Equation Model method (SEM). The findings of the study suggest that psychological factors (health concern, environmental concern, consumer awareness of organic foods) had a significantly positive influence on consumer's purchase attention toward organic food. The results also revealed that environmental factors (family's opinion, friends and colleagues' opinion, influence of celebrities, expert's opinion, mass media) were positively linked to consumer's purchase attention toward organic food.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of individual emotional characteristics (empathetic concern and emotional contagion) on emotional labor (frequency of emotional display, intensity and variety of emotional display, surface acting, and deep acting) of school dietitians. Data was collected through a questionnaire survey of 309 school dietitians and then analyzed statistically by SPSS 18.0 package program. The results of this study were as follows: empathetic concern (3.93) occurred more often than emotional contagion (3.22) in school dietitians. The older (p < 0.001) and more experienced (p < 0.01) they were, the higher empathetic concern they had. It showed that married dieticians (p < 0.001), nutrition teachers (p < 0.01), and dieticians who were working in elementary schools (p < 0.01) had a higher rate of empathetic concern than single dieticians, non-nutrition teachers, and dieticians who were working in middle and high schools, respectively. Their level of emotional labor was the highest in deep acting (3.32), followed by surface acting (3.28), frequency (3.12), intensity and variety (3.09). According to multiple regression analysis, emotional contagion proved to be strongly significant and positively related to frequency of emotional display (${\beta}=0.257$, p < 0.001). Both empathetic concern (${\beta}=0.117$, p < 0.05) and emotional contagion (${\beta}=0.162$, p < 0.01) were positively related to intensity and variety of emotional display, and empathetic concern (${\beta}=0.173$, p < 0.01) had also an effect on deep acting. These results suggested that the emotional labor of school dietitians should be managed on the organizational viewpoint, not a personal matter.

  • The mobile market has introduced unprecedented shopping opportunities to customers and is expected to grow rapidly over time. However, little is known about how customers make purchase decisions in the mobile market. The purpose of this study is to investigate the drivers of mobile VOD purchases and to deliver valuable insights to mobile business operators. We focus on the purchase of VOD contents that have to be purchased and consumed using mobile devices and examine how individual-level purchase decisions are determined by three factors: perceived usefulness, usage behavior, and privacy concern. We obtained the panel data from a leading market research company that contains the mobile logs and survey results. Our main results suggest the followings. First, the perceived usefulness affects customers' mobile VOD contents purchases positively whereas the usage behavior exerts no influence on mobile contents purchases. Moreover, the privacy concern lowers the positive effect of perceived usefulness on mobile content purchases; however, it enhances the effect of the usage behavior on mobile contents purchases. These empirical findings indicate that mobile business operators should pay more attention to potential differences in perception and behavior using mobile devices and keep in mind that the privacy concern plays an additional key role in driving mobile contents purchases.
