  • The water leakage of reservoir embankment usually occurs through water vein, which gives little influence on the embankment in a normal state. However, the embankment can be destroyed when the water level of reservoir increases with heavy rain in summer. Investigating the water vein and its path is therefore very important from the viewpoint of disater prevention and embankment protection. This paper presents survey results of one-meter-depth ground temperature and multi-point temperature logging in an embankment in Japan to delineate water veins and permeable formations. Four water veins have been predicted in the embankment by comparing measured one-meter-depth ground temperatures with the background ones which have no effect of water vein. The multi-point temperature logging was carried out in the borehole drilled at one of the predicted water veins. Depth and thickness of the permeable formation in the borehole can be determined from temperature restoration ratios with elapsed time. From these results we can find that the water leakage of reservoir embankment mainly occurs in sandy soil formation in the embankment.

  • To analyze and design a motor magnetic permeance method and numerical methods such as F.E.M. are used. In this thesis, DC motor is analyzed and designed by the permeance method. Modified Carter coefficient and leakage permeance are presented. A magnetic flux path can be approximated properly by using a equivalent ${\pi}$ network representation adding the leakage coefficient. Finally, effective and easy-to-use program is realized. Experimental analysis and design with an actual motor proves that this program produces reliable results. There are many experimental coefficients in this algorithm and it makes some design errors. Using of this program, an motor engineer can obtain satisfactory characteristic and design value by inputting initial data at once.

  • A novel topology for the magnet gear is proposed in this study. Differently from the existing methods, both sides of magnet array in this topology are used, resulting in increasing the efficiency of the mechanism. The closed magnetic path between the magnetic elements decreases the leakage flux, so the interlinking magnetic flux through the air-gap is focused and intensified. This paper discusses the dominant parameters of the proposed magnet gear influencing the resulting transmission torque. The parameters are designed from the sensitivity analysis using the commercial FEM analysis tool. And, the test setup for verifying the performance of the system is described.

  • In this paper, we are studied on the direction and formation of carbonized conductive path according to surface leakage current between electrodes. The characteristics of the tracking as surface is broken down between exposed live parts. Using the HSIS(high speed imaging system. 100,000[fps], redlake ltd., USA), it took photographs by arc growth mechanism occurred in on/off surge, ground fault and discharge between electrodes. Then the results was analyzed. Hereafter, it expected effects that application of energy utility technology through the arc control.

  • A moving-magnet type pickup actuator is proposed, which has the back-yoke to improve th sensitivity. Through the magnetic path analysis, we can find that the flux density is increased i the air gap by the pole assignment of magnet and the adding of back-yoke can reduce the flu leakage and induce 40% up of flux density. Experimental results show that the sensitivity i improved in the tracking direction, however, the improvement doesn't occur in the focusing direction. Finally, the compensation performance is tested in HD-DVD system. And it is verifie that the actuator can compensate the disc tilt of ${\pm}$0.7$^{\circ}$.

  • This study examined the mounting status of cigar lighter receptacles for vehicles and analyzed the tracking phenomenon that occurs when foreign material entered a cigar lighter receptacle to obtain data for the analysis of accident investigation. Regardless of the vehicle's output, cigar lighter receptacles are mounted in a vehicle horizontally, vertically, or at tilting or inclined angle. The tilting type cigar lighter receptacle is much easier to use but current leakage resulting from foreign materials (coffee, beverages, water, etc.) falling into the cigar lighter receptacle may cause a fire to start. This study used a vehicle battery (DC 12V) as a power supply for the tracking test and configured its circuit in the same way as that of an electrical device in a vehicle. The tracking phenomenon that occurred in the standby mode of the vehicle exhibited a fine flame and an irregular occurrence of smoke. While this tracking phenomenon was occurring, the leakage current and the reaching distance of the flame were measured to be approximately 930mA and $20{\sim}50cm$, respectively. It is thought that the resultant flame may ignite toluene, dust, cigarettes, etc. It was observed that as the tracking progressed, the internal metal socket melted and a hole was created, the surface of which was also severely carbonized. In addition, the electrical resistance of the carbonized conductive path was measured to be approximately $30{\Omega}$. It is thought that this much resistance may cause local heating when leakage current flows and could ignite any nearby flammable material.

  • In this study, when interpreting leakage using the concept of geographical dispersion based on grid, to choose an appropriate spatial resolution, the statistical characteristics of drainage path length and the pattern of change of hydrodynamic parameters have been observed. Drainage path length has been calculated using an 8-direction algorithm from digital elevation model, from which the hydrodynamic parameters of the watershed were estimated. The scales of topographical map for this analysis are 1:5,000 and 1:25,000, appling grid sizes 5, 10, 15, 20 m and 20, 30, 50, 100, 150, 200 m, respectively. As results of this analysis, depending on the scale of stream networks, the statistical characteristics of drainage path length by spatial resolution and hydrodynamic parameters of the watershed have been changed. Based on the above results, when interpreting leakage using the concept of the geographical dispersion based on grid, in the case of 1:5,000 scale topographical map, a spatial resolution of 5 m will be better showing geographical and hydrodynamic characteristics to apply to the well developed stream network in basins, spatial resolution of 5~20 m to the less developed stream network in basins. And in the case of 1:25,000 scale topographical map, spatial resolution below 50 m is more desirable to show above two characteristics to apply to both cases.

  • Smart ships related studies are being conducted in various fields owing to the development of technology, and an engine room patrol robot that can patrol the unmanned engine room is one such study. A patrol robot moves around the engine room based on the information learned through artificial intelligence and checks the machine normality and occurrence of abnormalities such as water leakage, oil leakage, and fire. Study on engine room patrol robots is mainly conducted on machine detection using artificial intelligence, however study on movement and control is insufficient. This causes a problem in that even if a patrol robot detects an object, there is no way to move to the detected object. To secure maneuverability to quickly identify the presence of abnormality in the engine room, this study experimented with whether a patrol robot can determine the shortest path by applying the A* algorithm. Data were obtained by driving a small car equipped with LiDAR in the ship engine room and creating a map by mapping the obtained data with SLAM(Simultaneous Localization And Mapping). The starting point and arrival point of the patrol robot were set on the map, and the A* algorithm was applied to determine whether the shortest path from the starting point to the arrival point was found. Simulation confirmed that the shortest route was well searched while avoiding obstacles from the starting point to the arrival point on the map. Applying this to the engine room patrol robot is believed to help improve ship safety.
