Control of ground water is one of the most important factors for long-term operation of tunnel because most of tunnel is located in the ground. In case of leakage tunnel, there is no pore water pressure on the lining when the drainage system is properly working. After long-term operation, however, the pore water pressure can be developed on the lining due to the deterioration of the drainage system. The increased pore water pressure on the lining is termed here as 'residual pore water pressure'. Residual pore water pressure can be measured by piezometer, but it is generally not allowed because of damages of drainage system. Therefore, an indirect and nondestructive method is required for evaluating the residual pore water pressure. Moreover, understanding of pore water pressure is needed during healthy operation of the lining. In this study, a new method for evaluation of pore water pressure on the lining during operation is proposed using theoretical and numerical analysis. It is shown that the method is particularly useful for stability investigation of pore water pressure on the lining during operation using theoretical analysis with normalized pore water pressure curve.

In a supersonic turbine, A rotor overlap technique reduced the chance of chocking in the rotor passage, and made the design pressure ratio satisfied. However, the technique also made additional losses, like a pumping loss, expansion loss, etc. Therefore, an approximate optimization technique was appled to find the optimal shape of overlap which maximizes the improvement of the turbine performance. The design variables were shape factors of a rotor overlap. An optimal design for rotor overlap reduces leakage mass flow rate at tip clearance by about 50% and increases about 4% of total-static efficiency compared with the base model. It was found that the most effective design variable is the tip overlap and that the hub overlap size is the lowest.
MOV(Main Oxidizer shut-off Valves) control the combustion of launch vehicle systems by the supply and the isolation of liquid oxygen to a main combustion chamber in launch vehicle systems. Moreover, the MOV should secure a constant flow rate of liquid oxygen for combustion instability in the steady operational state. Although it has been showed that a EM(Engineering Model) with a high discharge coefficient value compared with the TM(Technology Model) fills the overall performance requirements, additional design modifications in some critical parts of the EM were conducted to improve the performance. The configurations of the pressure-control body, the middle flange, and the rips of the inlet body of the EM were modified and the performance tests have been performed with test models. Consequently, the intended improvements have been verified by the performance tests.

It becomes a more and more common practice to build facilities bigger and more integrated in an effort to optimize the process within limited resources and spaces. As the capacity of facilities increases, so does the flow rate and pressure. This in turn leads to a high consequence of accident. Not only are these facilities vulnerable to leakage because of their high pressure, but also subsequent fire and explosion can be threatening. For these reasons, there is an urgent need to come up with solutions to assess and minimize the damage from an accident. The Quantitative Risk Assessment(QRA) is one of the most efficient ways to solve problems on pressurized pipelines. The QRA can be re-enforced by applying reduction factors. In this study various types of accidents in a pressurized pipeline were evaluated. The damage from accidents were computed, then. Finally the reduction factors were very effective to decrease consequences of high pressure pipeline accidents.
In many mass-consumption gas facilities, natural gas is not supplied through the pipeline of the gas corporation. LNG is supplied from the gas corporation through the tank lorry to be vaporized. In order to prevent human or property damage due to gas leakage at these facilities, a study was conducted to analyze the concentration of odorant injected at the initial and consumption points. An analysis was performed to confirm the change in odorant concentration according to the pipe position in the gas facility when a constant flow rate flowed. For this study the gas samples were taken with aluminium cylinders(4.5 L) which were created a vacuum at the pressure regulator in which the odorants was injected and the points using the gas. Odorant levels of the samples were analyzed by Gas chromatography(Main Body : Agilent 7890A, Detector : ANTEC 7090).We suggest that the small facilities using LNG need to make the management system by the types of facilities for maintaining the odorization system.
High quality diamond films of the silicon on diamond (SOD) structure are deposited using CO and $H_2$ gas mixture in microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (CVD), a SOD structure is fabricated using low pressure CVD polysilicon on diamond/ Si(100) substrate. The crystalline structure of the diamond films which composed of { 111} and {100} planes. were changed from octahedral one to cubo-octahedron one as the CO/$H_2$ ratios are increased. The high quality diamond films without amorphous carbon and non-diamond elements were deposited at the CO/$H_2$ flow rate of 0.18. and the main phase of the diamond films shows (111) plane. The diamond/Si(lOO) structure shows that the interface is flat without voids. The measured dielectric constant. leakage current and breakdown field were $5.31\times10^{-9}A/cm^2$ and $9\times{10^7}{\Omega}cm$ respectively.

The basic effects of hydrogen addition for engine performance and emission were investigated in single cylinder research engine. Seven commercial injectors were tested to choose a suitable injector for hydrogen injection prior to its engine implementation. The hydrogen fuel leakage and flow rate were evaluated for each injector and KN3-1(Keihin, CO.) showed the best performance for hydrogen fuel. At the higher excess air ratio(${\lambda}=1.7$, 2.0), the better combustion stability was found with hydrogen addition even though its effect was small at lower excess air ratio (${\lambda}=1.0$, 1.3). Stable operation of the engine was even guaranteed at ${\lambda}=2.0$, if the amount of hydrogen gas was near 15% of total energy. In the lean region, ${\lambda}>1.3$, thermal efficiency was improved slightly while it was not clearly observed at ${\lambda}=1.0$, 1.3. It is considered that, in some cases, high temperature environment due to hydrogen combustion caused further heat loss to surroundings. Except for ${\lambda}=1.0$, with larger amount of hydrogen addition, CO was reduced drastically but it was emitted more at the leaner region. Nitric oxides(NOx) was increased a little more with hydrogen addition at ${\lambda}=1.0$, 1.3. However, at ${\lambda}>1.3$ its relative amount of emission was low. In addition, the amount of NOx was continuously decreased with hydrogen addition, but, at ${\lambda}=2.0$ the amount of NOx was lowered to 1/100 of that of ${\lambda}=1.0$. THC emission was significantly increased as air/fuel ratio was raised to leaner region due to misfire and partial burn.
In this paper, the analytical fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) is presented using model-based and signal-based methodology with wavelet analysis on signals obtained from sensors and sensor networks. In the model-based FDD, we present the modeling of contact interface found in soft materials, including the biomedical contacts. Fingerprint analysis and signal-based FDD are also presented with an experimental framework consisting of a mechanical pneumatic system typically found in manufacturing automation. This diagnosis system focuses on the signal-based approach which employs multi-resolution wavelet decomposition of various sensor signals such as pressure, flow rate, etc., to determine leak configuration. Pattern recognition technique and analytical vectorized maps are developed to diagnose an unknown leakage based on the established FDD information using the affine mapping. Experimental studies and analysis are presented to illustrate the FDD methodology. Both model-based and wavelet-based FDD applied in contact interface and manufacturing automation have implication towards better quality of life by applying theory and practice to understand how effective diagnosis can be made using intelligent FDD. As an illustration, a model-based contact surface technology an benefit the diabetes with the detection of abnormal contact patterns that may result in ulceration if not detected and treated in time, thus, improving the quality of life of the patients. Ultimately, effective diagnosis using FDD with wavelet analysis, whether it is employed in biomedical applications or manufacturing automation, can have impacts on improving our quality of life.

We investigated the characteristics of the silicon oxy-nitride and nitride films grown by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) at the low temperature with a varying $NH_3/N_2O$ mixing ratio and a fixed $SiH_4$ flow rate. The deposition temperature was held at $150^{\circ}C$ which was the temperature compatible with the plastic substrate. The composition and bonding structure of the nitride films were investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Nitrogen richness was confirmed with increasing optical band gap and increasing dielectric constant with the higher $NH_3$ fraction. The leakage current density of the nitride films with a high NH3 fraction decreased from $8{\times}10^{-9}$ to $9{\times}10^{-11}(A/cm^2$ at 1.5 MV/cm). This results showed that the films had improved electrical properties and could be acceptable as a gate insulator for thin film transistors by deposited with variable $NH_3/N_2O$ mixing ratio.

The 11α-hydroxylation of canrenone can be catalyzed by Aspergillus ochraceus in bioreactors, where the geometry of the impeller greatly influences the biotransformation. In this study, the effects of the blade number and impeller diameter of a Rushton turbine on the 11α-hydroxylation of canrenone were considered. The results of fermentation experiments using a 50 mm four-blade impeller showed that 3.40% and 11.43% increases in the conversion ratio were achieved by increasing the blade number and impeller diameter, respectively. However, with an impeller diameter of 60 mm, the conversion ratio with a six-blade impeller was 14.42% lower than that with a four-blade impeller. Data from cold model experiments with a large-diameter six-blade impeller indicated that the serious leakage of inclusions and a 22.08% enzyme activity retention led to a low conversion ratio. Numerical simulations suggested that there was good gas distribution and high fluid flow velocity when the fluid was stirred by large-diameter impellers, resulting in a high dissolved oxygen content and good bulk circulation, which positively affected hyphal growth and metabolism. However, a large-diameter six-blade impeller created overly high shear compared to a large-diameter four-blade impeller, thereby decreasing the conversion ratio. The average shear rates of the former and latter cases were 43.25 s-1 and 35.31 s-1, respectively. We therefore concluded that appropriate shear should be applied in the 11α-hydroxylation of canrenone. Overall, this study provides basic data for the scaled-up production of 11α-hydroxycanrenone.
