Immobilization of contaminants in contaminated soils by solidification processes is an attractive potential remediation process. In this study, the treatability of lead, copper, toluene, and COD was investigated by leaching test. Industrial sand was adopted as the test material and was contaminated with lead copper, and toluene to 100mg/kg, 500mg/kg, 200mg/kg respectively. P solidifying agent was used as the binder(20% by weight of contaminated soil) in the solidification treatment. The leachability of contaminants leached from the solidified soil was evaluated using column test. The percentage of contaminants leached from the solidified soil was significantly reduced by reaction of waste species with cement components and encapsulation reaction of binder. Based on the tests, it is ascertained solidification process can be a very effective method to control the elution of contaminants from the contaminated soil.
The recovery of tellurium from Te-cement obtained during the processing of copper anode slimes was carried out by a series of hydrometallurgical processes, i.E. leaching Te-cement in NaOH solution, precipitation of impurities with the addition of ${Na}_{2}S$ followed by direct electrowinning of tellurium in NaOH solution. The optimum conditions for each process were determined and discussed in terms of various parameters associated with each step to maximize the recovery and purity of tellurium. The final purity of tellurium from electrownning in alkaline solution was found to be more than 99.9%.
Solar cells are renewable energy source which is not only environmentally friendly but also economically viable. For that matter, thin film materials are in observed with great in terest by a number of sources throughout the nations. Among these, CdTe (Cadium telluride) and CIS (copper indium diselenide) are the latest commercial products that are gathering attention in the solar cells markets. However there are some downsides to this newly invention. Since the materials are embedded, in the occasion of damage, certain amount of module residue can be released to water or soil. This paper outlines the results of our outdoor leaching experiments on photovoltaic (PV) samples broken into small fragments and been observed for 1 year.
In order to investigate selective phase transformations and to determine the maximum Au leaching factors from microwave treated Au-bearing complex sulfides, a microscope, SEM-EDS analysis, and thiocyanate leaching tests were performed. When the Au-bearing complex sulfides were exposed to microwave heating, increasing the microwave exposure time increased temperature and decreased weight. Arsenopyrite was first selectively transformed to hematite, which formed a concentric rim structure. In this hematite, oxygen and carbon was detected and always showed high iron content and low arsenic content due to arcing and oxidation from microwave heating. The results of the leaching test using microwave treated sample showed that the maximum Au leaching parameters was reached with 0.5 g concentration thiocyanate, 2.0 M hydrochloric acid, 0.3 M copper sulfate and leaching temperature at$60^{\circ}C$. Under the maximum Au leaching conditions, 59% to 96.69% of Au was leached from the microwave treated samples, whereas only 24.53% to 92% of the Au was leached from the untreated samples.
Chromated copper arsenate (CCA) is a chemical wood preservative that has been intensively used to protect wood from decay during the last few decades. CCA is widely used to build structures such as decks, fences, playgrounds and boardwalks. However, structures constructed of CCA-treated wood have caused adverse environmental effects due to leaching of Cr, Cu and As into surrounding soils. This research was conducted to monitor the vertical and horizontal distribution of Cr, Cu and As in soils adjacent to CCA-treated wood structures in Korea. Two structures constructed with CCA-treated wood were selected at Hongcheon and Chuncheon in Gangwon Province, South Korea. Eleven soil profile samples were collected at depths of 0 to 80 cm at each site, while 12 surface soil samples were collected at distances of 0 to 200 cm from each structure. The soil chemical properties, soil particle size distribution and total metal concentrations were then determined. The results revealed that soils near CCA-treated wood structures were generally contaminated with Cr, Cu and As when compared to the background concentration of each metal. In addition, the concentrations of Cr, Cu and As in soils decreased as the vertical and horizontal distance from the structure increased. Further studies should be conducted to evaluate the mobility and distribution of these metals in the environment as well as to develop novel technologies for remediation of CCA contaminated soils.
Current research trends of non-copper wood preservatives for enhancing durability was reviewed; as a follow-up of the review in 2012 on copper-based wood preservatives. Main environmental friendly non-copper wood preservatives studied by many scientists were boron-based compounds, synthetic compounds from natural products, and pyrethroids family of chemicals, etc. The critical issue regarding treated woods with boron-based compounds used outdoors was the leaching of boron. Many studies mainly focused on boron fixation improvement using variety of polymers. Moreover, the studies showed notable increases in attempts to use natural products used commonly in the medical fields as wood preservatives as well as outdoor use of chemical modified such as acetylated wood developed in purpose of stabilizing dimension.
Bioleaching behavior of metal ions for recovery of cobalt and copper from cobalt concentrate was investigated by employing three Aspergillus niger strains. Various factors, such as organic acid generation with fungi type, pH of the culture and pulp density were studied. The results showed that the best fungi for organic acid(citric acid and oxalic acid) generation was A. niger KCTC 6144 using Malt Extract Broth culture at initial pH 3.5. But A. niger KCTC 6985 was more effective for the leaching of cobalt and copper from cobalt concentrate. Our results showed that 82% cobalt and 98% copper was dissolved by A. niger KCTC 6985 at 10g/L pulp density, at pH 3.5 and $24^{\circ}C$ after 15 days incubation.

This study is about the recycling technology of scrap a PCB(printed circuit board) produced in home appliances or automobile industry. And we develop the recycling technology of cooper (Cu)which is contained to leaching solution. In stead of electrolytic collecting in existing sulphuric atmosphere, we apply process using the ammonia solution which is used in economizing energy. So m the process of electrolyzing scrap a PCB through the leaching and separation, we examine the effect of the nickel contained to the solution and the cooper degree of purity which is changed according to current density.
In order to simulate the leaching solution of copper sulfide ore in $FeCl_3$ solutions, synthetic solutions with composition of $FeCl_3$-$FeCl_2$-$CuCl_2$-CuCl-NaCl-HCl-$H_2O$ were prepared. The concentration of iron and copper chloride was varied from 0.1 to 1 m in synthetic solutions. The effect of composition on the mixed solution pH and potential at $25^{\circ}C$ was measured. When HCl concentration was constant, the increase of CuCl concentration increased solution pH. The increase of other solutes excluding HCl and CuCl decreased solution pH owing to the increase of the activity coefficient of hydrogen ion. A high CuCl concentration favored the redox equilibrium in the direction of Cu(I), while $FeCl_3$ had the opposite effect.
This study was carried out to recover gold, silver and valuable metals from the printed circuit boards (PCBs) of waste computers. PCBs samples were crushed under 1 mm by a shredder and separated into 30% conducting and loft nonconducting materials by an electrostatic separator. The conducting materials contained valuable metals which were then used as feed materials for magnetic separation. 42% of magnetic materials from the conducting materials was removed by magnetic separation as nonvaluable materials and the others, 58% of non magnetic materials, was used as leaching samples containing 0.227 mg/g Au and 0.697 mg/g Ag. Using the materials of leaching from magnetic separation, more than 95% of copper, iron, zinc, nickel and aluminium was dissolved in 2.0M sulfuric acid solution, added with 0.2M hydrogen peroxide at $85^{\circ}C$. Au and Ag were not extracted in this solution. On the other hand, more than 95% of gold and 100% of silver were leached by the selective leaching with a mixed solvent (0.2M($NH_4$)$_2$$S_2$$O_3$,0.02M $CuSO_4$,0.4M $NH_4$OH). Finally, the residues were reacted with a NaCl solution to leach Pb whereas sulfuric acid was used to leach Sn. Recoveries reached 95% and 98% in solution, respectively.
