In this paper, we propose a transport layer mobility support protocol for multimedia streaming services in mobile/wireless environments by extending PR-SCTP to support mobility. We named the proposed scheme to be uPR-mSCTP. The rules related to provide unordered and unreliable data transfer, as well as an approach to minimize handover latency we proposed. Through the simulation results, it is shown that, since uPR-mSCTP reduces transmission rates during handover, not only it reduces the waste of network resources, but it also has the packet loss rate similar to FMIPv6, which is a lot smaller than UDP over MIPv6 or HMIPv6 It also incurs smaller control packet overhead compared to the network layer mobility support approaches.
This paper introduces a new split-TCP approach for improving TCP performance over IEEE 802.11-based wireless LANs. TCP over wireless LANs differently from wired networks is not aggressive, which is a fundamental reason for poor performance. Therefore, we propose TAS (TCP-Aware Sub-layer) to migigate this problem. Our scheme extends the split-connection approach that divides a connection into two different connections at a split point such as an access point (AP). Using TAS, a wireless node emulates TCP ACK packets using MAC ACK frames, instead of receiving real TCP ACK packets. We compared TAS with both normal TCP and I-TCP (Indirect TCP) by NS2 simulation. Results show that TAS achieves higher throughput, more fair resource allocation and, in power-saving mode, shorter delays.

The Isolation of few-layered transition metal dichalcogenides has mainly been performed by mechanical and chemical exfoliation with very low yields. in particular, the two-dimensional layer of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has recently attracted much interest due to its direct-gap property and potential application in optoelectronics and energy harvesting. However, the synthetic approach to obtain high-quality and large-area MoS2 atomic thin layers is still rare. In this account, a controlled thermal reductionsulfurization method is used to synthesize large-MoOx thin films are first deposited on Si/SiO2 substrates, which are then sulfurized (under vacuum) at high temperatures. Samples with different thicknesses have been analyzed by Raman spectroscopy and TEM, and their photoluminescence properties have been evaluated. We demonstrated the presence of single-, bi-, and few-layered MoS2 on as-grown samples. It is well known that the electronic structure of these materials is very sensitive to the number of layer, ranging from indirect band gap semiconductor in the bulk phase to direct band gap semiconductor in monolayers. This synthetic approach is simple, scalable, and applicable to other transition metal dichalcogenides. Meanwhile, the obtained MoS2 films are transferable to arbitrary substrates, providing great opportunities to make layered composites by stacking various atomically thin layers.
The next generation communication environment consists of various wireless access networks with distinct features that are configured as an overlay topology. In the network environments, the frequency of hand overs should be minimized and the error propagation should be solved in order to provide high-quality multimedia services to mobile users. Therefore, we propose an performance enhancement approach, based on mSCTP, that provides high quality multimedia services to mobile users by ameliorating the error propagation problem. We utilizes the following four functions: 1) the separation of transmission paths according to the types of frames. 2) retransmission strategy to minimize the loss rate of frames, 3) Foced vertical handover execution by utilizing bicasting, 4) using the stability period in order to reduce the effect of the ping pong phenomenon. The simulation results show that the proposed approach provides seamless multimedia service to mobile users by achieving error resilience.
It is important for urban planners and policy makers to understand complex, diverse urban demands and social structure, but this is not easy due to lack of data that represents the dynamics of residents at micro-geographical level. This paper explores how to create population data at at a micro-level by allocating population data to building. It attempted to allocate population data stored in a grid layer (100 meters by 100 meters) into a building footprint layer that represents the appearance of physical buildings. For the allocation, this paper describes a systemic approach that classifies grid cells into five prototypical patterns based on the composition of residential building types in a grid cell. This approach enhances allocation accuracy by accommodating heterogeneity of urban space rather than relying on the assumption of uniform spatial homogeneity of populations within an aerial unit. Unlike the methods that disaggregate population data to the parcel, this approach is more applicable to Asian cities where large multifamily residential parcels are common. However, it should be noted that this paper does not demonstrate the validity of the allocated population since there is a lack of the actual data available to be compared with the current estimated population. In the case of water and electricity, the data is already attached to an individual address, and hence, it can be considered to the purpose of the validation for the allocation. By doing so, it will be possible to identify innovative methods that create a population distribution dataset representing the comprehensive and dynamic nature of the population at the micro geographical level.

European Space Agency's Sentinel-1 has an improved spatial and temporal resolution, as compared to previous satellite data such as Envisat Advanced SAR (ASAR) or Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT). Thus, the assumption used for low-resolution retrieval algorithms used by ENVISAT ASAR or ASCAT is not applicable to Sentinel-1, because a higher degree of land surface heterogeneity should be considered for retrieval. The assumption of homogeneity over land surface is not valid any more. In this study, considering that soil roughness is one of the key parameters sensitive to soil moisture retrievals, various approaches are discussed. First, soil roughness is spatially inverted from Sentinel-1 backscattering over Yanco sites in Australia. Based upon this, Artificial Neural Networks data (feedforward multiplayer perception, MLP, Levenberg-Marquadt algorithm) are compared with Fractal approach (brownian fractal, Hurst exponent of 0.5). When using ANNs, training data are achieved from theoretical forward scattering models, Integral Equation Model (IEM). and Sentinel-1 measurements. The network is trained by 20 neurons and one hidden layer, and one input layer. On the other hand, fractal surface roughness is generated by fitting 1D power spectrum model with roughness spectra. Fractal roughness profile is produced by a stochastic process describing probability between two points, and Hurst exponent, as well as rms heights (a standard deviation of surface height). Main interest of this study is to estimate a spatial variability of roughness without the need of local measurements. This non-local approach is significant, because we operationally have to be independent from local stations, due to its few spatial coverage at the global level. More fundamentally, SAR roughness is much different from local measurements, Remote sensing data are influenced by incidence angle, large scale topography, or a mixing regime of sensors, although probe deployed in the field indicate point data. Finally, demerit and merit of these approaches will be discussed.
Recently high dynamic range imaging technique is hot issue in computer graphic area. We present a progressive tone mapping algorithm, which is based on weighted least squares optimization framework. Our approach combines weighted least squares filtering with iCAM06 model. To show more perceptual high dynamic range images in conventional display, we decompose high dynamic range image into base layers and detail layers. The base layers are obtained by using weighted least squares filter. Then, we adopt chromatic adaption function and non-linear compression function to deal with base layers. Only the base layers reduce contrast, and preserving detail. The image quality assessment shows that our tone mapped image is more similar to original high dynamic range image. Moreover, the subjective result shows our algorithm produces more reliable and pleasing image.

In this study, we report on the novel lithographic patterning method to fabricate organic thin film field effect transistors (OTFTs) based on photo and e-beam lithography with well-known silicon technology. The method is applied to fabricate pentacene-based organic field effect transistors. Owing to their solubility, sub-micron sized patterning of P3HT and PEDOT has been well established via micromolding in capillaries and inkjet printing techniques. Since the thermally deposited pentacene cannot be dissolved in solvents, other approach was done to fabricate pentacene FETs with a very short channel length (~30 nm), or in-plane orientation of pentacene molecules by using nanometer-scale periodic groove patterns as an alignment layer for high-performance pentacene devices. Here, we introduce $Al_2O_3$ film grown via atomic layer deposition method onto pentacene as a passivation layer. $Al_2O_3$ passivation layer on OTFTs has some advantages in preventing the penetration of water and oxygen and obtaining the long-term stability of electrical properties. AZ5214 and ma N-2402 were used as a photo and e-beam resist, respectively. A few micrometer sized lithography patterns were transferred by wet and dry etching processes. Finally, we fabricated micron sized pentacene FETs and measured their electrical characteristics.

A combat system performs a given mission enduring various threats. It is important to analyze the reliability of combat systems in order to increase their ability to perform a given mission. Most of studies considered no threat or on threat and didn't analyze all the dependent relationships among the components. In this paper, we analyze the loss probability of the function of the combat system and use it to analyze the reliability. The proposed method is divided into two layers, A lower layer and a upper layer. In lower layer, the failure probability of each components is derived by using FTA to consider various threats. In the upper layer, The loss probability of function is analyzed using the failure probability of the component derived from lower layer and BBN in order to consider the dependent relationships among the components. Using the proposed method, it is possible to analyze considering various threats and the dependency between components.
Until now, the thickness design of anti-freezing layer has been empirically conducted using the frost depth determined from the freezing index. This approach cannot consider the structural properties of anti-freezing layer, which can cause the over-design of pavement structure. This paper presents results of structural evaluation of anti-freezing layer using the Falling Weight Deflectormeter (FWD) deflections. The FWD testing was directly conducted on top of the subbase layer located at the embankment, cutting, and boundary area of each section. It is observed from this testing that the center deflections of pavement structure with anti-freezing layer are smaller than those without anti-freezing layer. The deflection reduction rates are 15~55% in the embankment, 11~64% in the cutting, and 2~38% in the boundary, respectively. It was also found that the use of antifree zing layer enables to reduce the Surface Curvature Index (SCI) values up to 24 percent. Fatigue lives show that pavement structure with antifreezing layer are about two times higher than the those without anti-freezing layer. This fact indicates that the anti-freezing layer should be considered as a structural layer in the asphalt pavement system.
