  • This study is to investigate the stability of expanded new generator plant depending on the capacity of existing system. We examined the transmitting power limit to the existing system as its capacity increase for the various system configuration with fixed location of plants and substations. The results show that the stability has decreasing tendency when the existing source capacity increase. Thus it can be concluded that new generator has little stability problem when it connected to small system, whereas large existing system capacity gives remarkable difficulty in adopting new generator.

  • Thermo-acoustic emission (AE) from composite laminates under the repetitive thermal cyclic loads have been quantitatively analyzed in consideration of AE source mechanisms. The repetitive thermal load brought about a large reduction, i.e. an exponential decrease in AE total ringdown counts and AE amplitudes. It was thought that generation of thermo-AE during the first thermal cycle was not caused by crack propagation but by secondary microfracturing due to abrasive contact between crack surfaces.

  • The paper presents noise and vibration characteristics of three kinds of pipe materials (PVC pipe, cast-iron pipe and newly developed pp pipe). In order to measure structure bone noise, impact force using small balls was applied to earth pipe. It was confirmed that structure bone noise can be reduced by more large damping materials. Also, transmission loss of pipes depending on the frequency ranges was investigated by using sound source through speakers.

  • Visualization has a strong capability to manage and display a large volume of data. It makes system analysis more intuitive and helps an operator in monitoring system status, understanding its phenomena, identifying its problems, and performing corrective action to maintain the security of the system. In this paper visualization program is developed based on a COTS-based software development concept in a distributed environment using open-source application software and development tools.

  • Aircraft noise is one of the main causes of environmental impact. It is more serious than any other noise nuisance. It has become an increasing source of annoyance to the large number of people who live in communities near airports. This paper demonstrates the prediction of aircraft noise using Integrated Noise Model(INM) 5.1 developed by U.S. FAA and aircraft noise contour map near airports.

  • The simplified equivalent by using the short circuit impedance has been used for analyzing the prospective transient recovery voltage of the large power system. But it sometimes generates untorelable error in the rate-of-rise of TRV when using the Thevenin equivalent source. This paper provides the new equivalent by using the multi-port theory. The application of the new method to the sample system gives satisfactory accuracy compared with the short-circuit equivalent.

  • A new multi-step voltage source inverter is proposed in this paper. The proposed scheme is composed of the double-connected 12-step inverter with an auxiliary circuit. The auxiliary circuit includes two voltage dividing capacitors, two switching devices and a low KVA autotransformer. The resultant system is shown to be a 24-step inverter suitable for large scale SVC applications in which the PWM method can not be employed. The design parameters are derived from the analysis of voltages and currents by means of switching functions. The simulation results verify the proposed concept.
