  • Accurate and cost-effective classification of forest vegetation is the primary goal for forest management and utilization of forest resources. Aerial photograph and remote sensing are the most frequent and effective method in forest resources inventories. TM and MSS are the principal observing instruments on the Landsat-4 and -5 earth observing satellite. Especially TM has considerably greater spatial, spectral, and radiometric resolution power than MSS, that is, the IFOV of TM at a nadir is 30m compared to 80m for MSS. In this study, we used TM data to classify forest types and compared the result with forest type map manufactured by interpretation of B/W infrared photographs. As a result, land use types were well defined with TM data. But classifying forest types was a little difficult and indistinct. However, the spectral signatures of forest in every season and growing stages remained as problems to be solved, and also the most effective selection and combination method of bands for differentiating the spectral plots among classes.

  • The demand for hydrogen, which is considered an environmentally friendly energy source, is increasing, and at the same time, the fuel cell market is increasing continuously. This study aimed to establish a strategy for securing intellectual property rights on fuel cell by-product utilization technology for operating expenditure reduction of hydrogen-powered residential buildings. In this patent analysis, this study investigated Korean, American, Japanese, and European patents filed/published/registered by October 2019 and established a technical classification system and classification criteria through expert discussion. To reduce the operating expenditure of hydrogen-powered residential buildings, intellectual property rights will be improved using systems and methodologies involving cathode-side purified air, product water, and oxygen-depleted air captured with the dead-end mode operation of polymer electrolyte fuel cells.

  • The water shortage in mega cities in Asia, which face a rapid growth in urban population, is an outstanding problem. It is important, therefore, to accurately estimate the water balance in each city in order to use the limited water resources effectively. In this study, we estimated the potential water resources in し sixteen mega cities in Asia. The target cities were Delhi and Calcutta, India; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Yangon, Myanmar; Bangkok, Thailand; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Singapore; Jakarta, Indonesia; Hanoi, Vietnam; Beijing and Hong Kong, the People's Republic of China; Seoul, the People's Republic of Korea; Manila, the Philippines, and Sapporo and Tokyo, Japan. The potential water resources were estimated by subtracting the actual evaporation from the amount of rainfall. The actual evaporation was estimated using the potential evaporation obtained by Hamon's equation which requires the air temperature and the possible hours of sunshine. When the results of Hamon's and Penman's evaporation equations were compared, a considerable error appeared in the low latitude region. The estimation using Hamon's equation was corrected with the linear regression line of Hamon's and Penman's equations. A classification of the land cover was carried out based on satellite photographs of the target cities, and the volume of surface runoff for each city was obtained using the runoff ratios which depended on the land cover. As a result, the potential water resources in the above mega cities in Asia were found to be greater than the world average. However, the actual water resources which are available for one person to use are probably very limited.

  • In this study, a method for soil moisture estimation was proposed to obtain the nationwide soil moisture distribution map using on-site soil moisture observations, rainfall, surface temperature, NDVI, land cover, effective soil depth, and CART (Classification And Regression Tree) algorithm. The method was applied to the Yong-dam dam basin since the soil moisture data (4 sites) of the basin were reliable. Soil moisture observations of 3 sites (Bu-gui, San-jeon, Cheon-cheon2) were used for training the algorithm and 1 site (Gye-buk2) was used for the algorithm validation. The correlation coefficient between the observed and estimated data of soil moisture in the validation sites is about 0.737. Results show that even though there are limitations of the lack of reliable soil moisture observation for various land use, soil type, and topographic conditions, the soil moisture estimation method using ancillary data and CART algorithm can be a reasonable approach since the algorithm provided a fairly good estimation of soil moisture distribution for the study area.

  • Heavy metal concentrations in the soil were investigated for the abandoned Samkwang metal mine, Cheongyang-Gun, Chungnam Province, Korea. The concentrations of heavy metal(As, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn) were determined in mine soils collected at the abandoned mine sites to obtain a general classification and specification of the pollution in this highly polluted region. The results estimated with the normal test and basis statistic on the central tendency and variation showed that the distribution of heavy metal concentration had significantly different at the range of all locations. The range of spatial distribution on the relationship of heavy metal concentration and pH was $4.8{\sim}8.8$ and heavy metal concentration on the type of land use was highest in forest land, and also Ni and Zn in farm and rice field showed the high concentration. The distribution of heavy metal concentration on the depth of a soil showed that the metal concentrations in subsoil were higher than of those in surface soil, while the concentration of Cu and Ni had no significant difference on the depth of soil. Results from the correlation analysis using the data except the extreme and unusual data revel that Zn-Cd(r=0.867), Zn-As(r=0.797), Zn-Pb(r=0.764), Cu-Cd(r=0.673), Cu-As(r=0.614) and Zn-Ni(r=0.605) were the most important parameters in assessing variations of heavy metal in soil. To discriminate pattern differences and similarities among samples, principal factor analysis(PFA) and cluster analysis(CF) were performed using a correlation matrix. This study suggests that PFA and CF techniques are useful tools for identification of important heavy metal and parameters. This study presents the necessity and usefulness of multivariate statistical assessment of complex databases in order to get better information about the quality of soil and gives the basis information to clean up the abandoned mine sites.

  • Soil loss was estimated by using universal soil loss equation(USLE) through GIS technique in Buyeu area. The expected soil loss is determined from six environmental factors: rainfall, erodibility of selected soil, length and steepness (gradient) of ground slope, crop grown in soil, and land practices used. A scoring system for assessing soil lossrisk has been developed for calculating SLI(Soil Loss Index) by GIS. The scores of six factors multiplied to give a total score which was compared with an chosen classification system to categorize areas of low, moderate and high risk. Finally, a soil loss assessment map was produced by GIS cartographic simulation technique, and this map could be applied in the establishment of regional land use planning.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the influence on Organizational Performance of Autonomy in Cadastral Employees. The survey was conducted around the branch Korea Cadastral Survey Corporation. Using SPSS 20.0 and Amos 19.0, Structural Equating model was verified. The results of the analysis and the proposal is as follows. First, autonomy not directly but indirectly affected job satisfaction and organizational commitment. This had a positive impact on job satisfaction and organizational commitment, autonomy existing research. But it was not the organization's performance by increasing the autonomy to higher study. Perhaps it is analyzed the results of the public sector. Second, the relationship between autonomy and organizational performance in leadership had a mediating effect. And increase organizational performance factors, leadership has a very important meaning. Public good is not guaranteed autonomy. Therefore, it is possible to compensate through leadership. Third, cadastral field manager leadership competencies, it is necessary to develop a training program to enhance the organizational commitment and job satisfaction.

  • Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar(InSAR) is a rapidly evolving technique. Spectacular results obtained in various fields such as the monitoring of earthquakes, volcanoes, land subsidence and glacier dynamics, as well as in the construction of Digital Elevation Models(DEMs) of the Earth's surface and the classification of different land types have demonstrated its strength. As InSAR is a remote sensing technique, it has various sources of errors due to the satellite positions and attitude, atmosphere, and others. Therefore, it is important to validate its accuracy, especially for the DEM derived from Satellite SAR images. In this study, Real Time Kinematic(RTK) GPS and Kinematic GPS positioning were chosen as tools for the validation of InSAR derived DEM. The results showed that Kinematic GPS positioning had greater coverage of test area in terms of the number of measurements than RTK GPS. But tracking the satellites near and/or under trees md transmitting data between reference and rover receivers are still pending tasks in GPS techniques.

  • National Geography Institute(NGI, National mapping agency) has been producing national basemap in automated process since middle of 1980's toward the systematic and efficient management of national land. In 1995, Korean government initiated a full-scale implementation of the National Geographic Information System(NGIS) Development Plan. Under the NGIS Development Plan, NGI began to produce digital maps in the scales of 1:1,000, 1:5,000, 1:25,000. However, digital maps of 1:250,000 scale, which are currently used for national land planning, were not included in NCIS Development Plan. Also, the existing laws and specifications related to digital maps of 1:250,000 scale are not clearly defined. It is fully appreciated that data dictionary will be a key element for users and generators of digital maps to rectify the existing problems in digital maps as well as to maximize the application of digital maps. There(ore this study proposed a feature classification system, which defines features that should be represented in digital map of 1:250,000 scale, and data dictionary as well.

  • The goal of this research is to evaluate methodology that uses satellite data for the analysis of flood and drought damaged area. Land cover classification were performed using satellite data that were acquired at disaster periods and comparatively normal times. Damaged area was extracted by use of overlay analysis in land cover change and compared with the field survey results. The results show analysis of flood damaged area could be carried out with single scene acquired at adequate day, and are corresponded with field survey data very well. And also, some areas that had been missed in field survey were found. The suggested method proved to be more accurate and effective way for mapping inundated areas of floodplains than field survey that would be held a few month later. The results on the analysis of drought damaged area show that drained water could be detected just only in small area, and crop damaged area could not be verified in objective validity. Drought analysis by remote sensing was proved not to be adequate for practical use in this study.
