Design of Hardware Accelerator for Portable Real-time MP3 Audio Encoder (휴대용 실시간 MP 오디오 부호화기를 위한 하드웨어 가속기 설계)

  • 본 논문에서는 고정소수점 DSP로 구현한 실시간 MP3 오디오 부호화기에 사용되는 초월함수용 하드웨어 가속기 구조를 제안한다. 구현된 하드웨어 가속기는 MP3 부호화 성능을 저하시키는 초월함수 연산오차에 강인하도록 설계되었다. 제안된 가속기의 연산오차는 Q1.23 고정소수점 출력에서 2비트, 즉 2/sup -21/ 까지의 연산오차를 가진다. LAME 부호화기[5]심리음향 모델의 SMR 오차는 테이블 보간법[4]을 사용할 경우에 비해 4dB이상 향상되었으며, 연산량은 총 4 MIPS 감소하였다. 제안한 하드웨어 가속기는 Verilog HDL로 기술되었으며, SYNOPSYS에서 0.18㎛ CMOS 표준 셀 라이브러리 공정으로 합성되었다. 합성 면적은 7514 게이트이며 초월함수 연산에 대한 동작속도는 3 사이클이다.

Whither the TPP? Political Economy of Ratification and Effect on Trade Architecture in East Asia

  • In the race for establishing trading architecture consistent with new landscape of the global economy, the US is ahead of the game by concluding the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement with 11 countries. To make it reality, the ratification is essential. In the battle for ratification in the US, declining globalism confronts rising protectionism. This paper models the ratification process as contest between globalism and protectionism, and analyzes the optimal timing for ratification. Based on this framework, various ratification scenarios are analyzed. The paper argues less likelihood for the lame-duck session passage and more likelihood for prolonged and protracted delay, due to changing political dynamics and declining intellectual support for globalism. Hence, the future of Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement may prove different, compared to the North American Free Trade Agreement and the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement, both of which were renegotiated and ratified eventually. Then, the US would lose the first move advantage. The paper also discusses strategic implications of delayed ratification on the evolution of trading architecture in East Asia.

  • This paper presents a study on the dimming control of electrodeless fluorescent lamp. To do this the equivalent model of electrodeless fluorescent lamp (ENDURA 100w Type) was first established. The resulted model of the lamp was applied to the two kinds of dimming control method, one is the variable switching frequency method and the other is the variable dc link voltage method. And the comparison results of the dimming characteristics between the two methods was presented. Theoretical predictions were verified by the experimental results on the ENDURA 100W type electrodeless fluorescent lame.

Analysis of the Stresses for Hydraulic Actuator Cylinders using Boundary Element Method (경계요소법을 이용한 유압 엑츄에이터 실린더의 응력해석)

  • The stress distributions of hydranlic actuator cylinder tube acting in uniform inner pressure were analysed by the boundary element method(BEM). STKM13C tube was utilized for machine structural purposes model, its inner radius was 100 mm and outer radius was 140 mm. Axial length was semi-infinite and the isoparametric element of BEM was used. Radial and tangential stresses are maximum(-20.3 MPa and 52 MPa) at the inner radius and the minimum at the outer radius of the hydraulic actuator cylinders for an industrial systems. Stress diminution ratio was about 0.6 MPa/mm. And then coincidence between the simulation techniques as exact results(Lame' equation) and finite element method(FEM) is found to be fairly good, showing that the proposed analysis by BEM is reliable.

  • Double layered tube that has been used for transportation and oil piping system is occasionally exposed to elevated temperature. The change in stress state at elevated temperature is important for the safe design of double layered tube. In this study, the variation of stress state for hydroformed double layered tube of which inner tube is stainless steel and outer tube is mild steel has been analytically analyzed. To characterize the thermal stress at elevated temperature, analytical model to provide thermal stresses between outer tube and inner tube was developed by using theories of elasticity and Lame equation. The feasibility of analytical model is verified by finite element analysis using ANSYS $CLASSIC^{TM}$, commercially available code. The variation of thermal stress at various thickness combination of inner and outer tube has also been investigated by proposed analytical model.

  • Loupes-assisted microsurgery often needs an operational head lamp for a better condition of light. This may cause serious neck fatigue due to the weight the operational head lamp, the limitation of the operator's head movement from the hind cable, and some cost for purchasing and management of it. On the contrary, a mountain head lamp is very light, full of freedom in movement, applicable to all types of loupes, and relatively very cheap. In conclusion, a mountain head lame can be a cost-effective light source for Loupes-assisted microsurgery.

  • To investigate the genetic system in resistance to powdery mildew winter wheat cultivar Diplomat which has stable field resistance was crossed with high yielding susceptible winter type Caribo and Hayman's generation mean analysis technique was employed. Mildewing rate on flag-leaf at both heading-flowering and ripe stages were recorded according to lame's quantitative scale. The result indicated that additive gene effect was more important and significant role in the inheritance of resistance while dominant gene effect was minimum, and digenic interations were absent. Narrow sense heritability of resistance at ripe stage was higher than that of heading-flowering stage.

  • In order to develop a character recognition system, it is an essential preceding work that gathers an image data of the standard. On this purpose a data of the digitized images of a handwritten characters was collected. The types of a gathered image data are Korean character, Chiness character, Numeral, English character, Special character, and so on. This paper deals with a handwritten character image data base, and the image data base different from the general storage structure of a lame capacity multimedia was designed and builded.

  • Nonpremixed counterflow flames at low strain rates, $ag=12s^{-1}$ and $12s^{-1}$, were numerically simulated to investigate the effects of the duct thickness on the flame structure in normal gravity. For small values of the duct thickness, the positions of the flame and stagnation point were highly sensitive to the duct thickness. When the duct thickness was greater than 6mm, however, the effects of the duct thickness on the flame structure were negligible. The computed temperature along the duct centerline agreed well with measurements.

  • The dimensional accuracy of the cold forged part is depended on the elastic characteristics of the die. To increase the stiffness of the prestressed die, the first stress ring of the tungsten carbide alloy (WC) is considered. For the design, Lame's equation is used. Diameter ratios and interferences have been determinated by maximum inner pressure without yielding of materials. The design of the prestressed die has been compared with the conventional one. For the comparison, the FE-analysis using ANSYS has been performed. The results indicate that the prestressed die with the high stiffness can be obtained by the using the high stiffness material as the first stress ring.
