  • This report describes the efficacy of using Yangshimtang-gamibang for a sleep disorder caused by a traffic accident. We treated a patient with Yangshimtang-gamibang for 12 days for sleep disorder caused by a traffic accident. To evaluate the results, we used the Korean Modified Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire (KMLSEQ) to measure sleep disorder. The degree of sleep disorder was also evaluated using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). The generic health status was evaluated using the European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions (EQ-5D) scale. Improvements in the NRS and EQ-5D scale scores were observed after the treatments. The change in the KMLSEQ score indicates that the patient's sleep disorder was relieved. The results of this case study suggest that Yangshimtang-gamibang may be an effective treatment for sleep disorders caused by traffic accident.

  • Objective: The cause of fibromyalgia is not defined precisely. Fibromyalgia has numerous symptoms that tend to vary from person-to-person. Several different treatments have emerged in recent times. This case will report on traditional Korean medicine patients who suffer from multiple pain and physical disorders when fibromyalgia is suspected. Method: During a hospitalization period, a patient was given a combination of traditional Korean medicine therapy (such as herbal medicine and acupuncture) and analgesic drugs. We measured the state and progress of this case using Numeric rating scale and EuroQol-5D. Results: After the treatments, the patient's pain was controlled and the NRS score decreased. The overall symptoms of the patient and the EQ-5D both improved positively. Conclusion: Traditional Korean medicine treatment helps to relieve the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

  • We studied the effect of Korean medicine treatment on the clearance of vancomycin-resistant enterococcus (VRE) colonization and on improvement in symptoms in a stroke patient. The patient was continuously followed up with stool VRE cultures while being treated with herbal medicine, Chunglijagam-tang, acupuncture, and oxygen therapy. We also checked the coccygeal pressure sore condition and the oxygen levels during therapy. No VRE colonization was found after treatment and the oxygen levels and pressure sores had improved. This study proved that Korean medicine treatment could be effective for the clearance of VRE colonization and improvement of symptoms.
