  • The purpose of this paper is the development of a fully integrated simulation package for industrial robot. The simulation package consists of kinematics, dynamics, and control. The kinematics contains trajectory plans and inverse kinematics. The dynamics combines manipulator dynamics and actuator dynamics including the effect of payloads and viscous frictions. The control is a hardware oriented scheme which contains position controller, velocity controller, current controller, and PWM generator. Thus, the simulation package can be used not only for theoretical purposes but also for development purposes in industry. Using this package, the characteristics and performances of the SCARA robot, which has been developed in GSIS, are investigated.

  • This paper presents a control effectiveness analysis of the hawkmoth Manduca sexta. A multibody dynamic model of the insect that considers the time-varying inertia of two flapping wings is established, based on measurement data from the real hawkmoth. A six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) multibody flight dynamics simulation environment is used to analyze the effectiveness of the control variables defined in a wing kinematics function. The aerodynamics from complex wing flapping motions is estimated by a blade element approach, including translational and rotational force coefficients derived from relevant experimental studies. Control characteristics of flight dynamics with respect to the changes of three angular degrees of freedom (stroke positional, feathering, and deviation angle) of the wing kinematics are investigated. Results show that the symmetric (asymmetric) wing kinematics change of each wing only affects the longitudinal (lateral) flight forces and moments, which implies that the longitudinal and lateral flight controls are decoupled. However, there are coupling effects within each plane of motion. In the longitudinal plane, pitch and forward/backward motion controls are coupled; in the lateral plane, roll and side-translation motion controls are coupled.

  • In order to overcome the conventional robot's physical limitation to frequent changes in operational requirements, it is quite appealing to modularize its system components and allow them to be combined into various configurations to best suit the needs to a particular application. Several researchers have presented the concept of modular robot. In this paper, the kinematics and dynamics of modular robot are studied, which concretes the concept of modular robot. This study includes the selection of individual module, the definition of their parameters and the development of module based manipulate. analysis software package (MBMAP).

  • In this paper a new concept, named the Extended Operational Space Formulation, has been proposed for the effective analysis and real-time control of the robot manipulators with kinematic redundancy. The extended operational space consists of operational space and optimal null space. The operational space is used to describe robot end-effector motion; whereas the optimal null space, defined as the target space of the self motion manifold, is used to express the self motion for the secondary tasks. Based upon the proposed formulation, the kinematics, statics, and dynamics of redundant robots have been analyzed, and an efficient control algorithm has been proposed. Using this algorithm, one can optimize a performance measure while tracking a desired end-effector trajectory with a better computational efficiency than the conventional methods. The effective ness of the proposed method has been demonstrated with simulations.

  • For the strength design of the brake system of a forklift truck, a procedure to calculate the internal forces acting on the system is presented in this paper. Vehicle dynamics, brake system kinematics, and internal force equilibrium analysis are integrated into the procedure. Design parameters such as stopping distance, maximum decceleration, and maximum torque generated by pedal force are considered in the vehicle dynamics, and geometric parameters of the brake system are considered in the brake system kinematics. With the two analysis results obtained, the internal forces acting in the brake system are finally calculated in the procedure.

  • Interactions of a humanoid with a human are important, when the humanoid is requested to provide people with human-friendly services in unknown or uncertain environment. Such interactions may require more complicated and human-like behaviors from the humanoid. In this work the arm motions of a human are discussed as the early stage of human motion imitation by a humanoid. A motion capture system is used to obtain human-friendly arm motions as references. However the captured motions may not be applied directly to the humanoid, since the differences in geometric or dynamics aspects as length, mass, degrees of freedom, and kinematics and dynamics capabilities exist between the humanoid and the human. To overcome this difficulty a method to adapt captured motions to a humanoid is developed. The geometric difference in the arm length is resolved by scaling the arm length of the humanoid with a constant. Using the scaled geometry of the humanoid the imitation of actor's arm motions is achieved by solving an inverse kinematics problem formulated using optimization. The errors between the captured trajectories of actor arms and the approximated trajectories of humanoid arms are minimized. Such dynamics capabilities of the joint motors as limits of joint position, velocity and acceleration are also imposed on the optimization problem. Two motions of one hand waiving and performing a statement in sign language are imitated by a humanoid through dynamics simulation.

  • In this paper, methods of human figure representation in computer graphics are described. Many applications of the human figure representation are found in areas including industry, advertisement, and cartoon production and further research for the methods that show the human figure more realistically is ex- pected. Two analytic methods for human model, kinematics and dynamics, are ex- plained and the characteristics of the man-machine interface systems that include human figure representation are presented. Various techniques of the human figure representation based on kinematics or(and) dynamics are discussed and representation methods of human body segments such as hand, face, spine are introduced in this paper.

  • This paper proposes a robust adaptive fuzzy tracking control scheme for a nonholonomic mobile robot with external disturbances as well as parameter uncertainties in the robot kinematics, the robot dynamics, and the actuator dynamics. In modeling a mobile robot, the actuator dynamics is integrated with the robot kinematics and dynamics so that the actuator input voltages are the control inputs. The presented controller is designed based on a FBFN (Fuzzy Basis Function Network) to approximate an unknown nonlinear dynamic function with the uncertainties, and a robust adaptive input to overcome the uncertainties. When the controller is designed, the different parameters for two actuator models in the actuator dynamics are taken into account. The proposed control scheme does not require the kinematic and dynamic parameters of the robot and actuators accurately. It can also alleviate the input chattering and overcome the unknown friction force. The stability of the closed-loop control system including the kinematic control system is guaranteed by using the Lyapunov stability theory and the presented adaptive laws. The validity and robustness of the proposed control scheme are shown through a computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we prpose a method for tracking optimally a spatial trajectory of the end-effector of flexible robot arms with multiple joints. The proposed method finds joint trajectories and joint torques necessary to produce the desired end-effector motion of flexible manipulator. In inverse kinematics, optimized joint trajectories are computed from elastic equations. In inverse dynamics, joint torques are obtained from the joint euqations by using the optimized joint trajectories. The equations of motion using finite element method and virtual work principle are employed. Optimal control is applied to optimize joint trajectories which are computed in inverse kinematics. The simulation result of a flexible planar manipulator is presented.

  • This paper presents the development of the design of the robot element. Robot element design is an important part of robot design since it decides the performance and life time of the robot. It is necessary that the robot kinematics and the robot dynamics are accomplished to design the robot elements. The robot kinematics and dynamics determine the design parameters of the element. We developed a robot element design program with which a designer can design the robot element with convenience and reliability. The program is composed of motor, harmonic driver and ball-screw design. The program is founded on the virtual robot design program. The virtual robot design program is the powerful software which may be used to solve various problems of the robot kinematics and dynamics. The robot element design program may be used to calculate the design parameters of the element that are necessary to design robot element. Therefore, the designer can decide upon the available robot elements available to perform the objective of the robot. The robot element design program is expected to increase the competitiveness and efficiency of the robot industry.
