Orthodontic protraction of the third molars to the posterior teeth missing area (구치 결손 환자에서 제3대구치의 교정적 활용)

  • The prolonged neglect of the posterior teeth missing area may cause mesial drift, extrusion, unexpected movement of the adjacent teeth and alveolar bone loss with occlusion collapse. Therefore it is recommended to treat that area by the prosthesis as soon as possible after tooth missing. However, if orthodontic treatment is applied to move the remained teeth, it can create improved biomechanical dentoalveolar environment. The use of the third molars in teeth missing area provides advantages as optimizing of prosthesis size. However, crown shape, location, soundness of the third molar and possible of eruption failure should be considered. In this case report, two patients closed a second teeth missing site and reduced the size of the first and second teeth missing area for an implant by protraction of impacted third molars. This case reports the considerations for closing or reducing the posterior teeth space with protracting the third molars by comparing two patients.

A Study on Acculturation Stress among Married Immigrant Women in the Jeonbuk Area (전북지역 결혼이주여성의 문화적응 스트레스에 관한 연구)

  • This study examined acculturation stress resulting from socio-demographic characteristics and psychological and social status of married immigrant women residing in the Jeonbuk region. Data were gathered from married immigrant women who were participating in non-profit agencies offering multi-cultural services and those who worked for business offices and stores in the Jeonbuk area. A structured self-administered questionnaire was used. A total of 280 questionnaires were distributed, and 210 were returned. Twenty three questionnaires were excluded from the study because of invalid responses, providing a final data pool of 187 responses. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that Korean language ability and levels of depression were significantly associated with acculturation stress among married immigrant women. Based on the findings of this study, interventions for reducing acculturation stress among married immigrant women and implications for future studies are discussed.

A Study of Heavy Metal Contents in Shellfished of Various Areas in Jeonbuk (전북 해안 지역별 패류의 중금속 함량)

  • This study was performed to investigate the contamination levels of harmful heavy metals that sampled from June. 1 to June. 31, 1999, at 3 areas in Jeonbuk west cost area. The heavy metal contents were determinated by ICPS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometer) method. The levels of total lead, cadmium, aluminum, zinc and copper were determined and the results were summarized as follows: The minimum and maximum values (ppm) of 3 areas of shellfishes (shortneck clam, hard clam, cockle clam, snail and top sell) were Pb: 1.29~4.35, Cd:0.12~0.37, Al: 9.45~54.06, Zn: 9.65~15.14, Cu: 0.62~1.64 ppm.

Prevalence of bovine diarrhea disease from Korean native calves in Jeonbuk western area (전북 서부지역 송아지 설사병 원인체 조사)

  • This study was performed to investigate the causative agents of diarrhea disease from Korean native calves in Jeonbuk western area. A total of 273 samples were collected in 2019. Analysis of causes of diarrhea shows that BVDV 8.1% (22/273), BRVA 17.6% (48/273), BCV 7.7% (21/273), E. coli 13.6% (37/273), Clostridium 5.1% (14/273), Parasite 1.1% (3/273) and other 46.9% (128/273) were detected. For major virus diseases (according to dietary changes), less 1 month 9.1.% (2/22), 1~3 months 18.2% (4/22), 4~6 months 18.2% (4/22), 7~13 months 36.4% (8/22) and over 13 months 18.2% (4/22) in BVDV, less 1 month 10.4.% (5/48), 1~3 months 60.4% (29/48), 4~6 months 4.2% (2/48), 7~13 months 4.2% (2/48) and over 13 months 20.8% (10/48) in BRVA, and less 1 month 23.8% (5/21), 1~3 months 23.8% (5/21), 4~6 months 23.8% (5/21), 7~13 months 19.0% (4/21) and over 13 months 9.5% (2/21) in BCV could see that the infection of the pathogen changed due to dietary changes. In particular, the infection rate of the BVDV is the highest at 36.4% (8/22) between 7~13 months, which requires the need to build research on the PI's that could have the effect of spreading the disease, different from those of BCV and BRVA. These results are likely to contribute to improving the productivity of raising at Korean native cattle.

Limited eye movement caused by clumping of fibrin glue used in blowout fracture surgery: a care report

  • Fibrin glue is a topical agent widely used for hemostasis, wound healing, and surgical adhesion. Complications of fibrin glue itself are extremely rare because it is absorbed over time, but can occur as a result of inappropriate application. We report a case of a postoperative complication caused by inappropriate application of fibrin glue in blow-out fracture surgery. A 65-year-old male patient presented with periorbital swelling and an open wound on the right infraorbital area. Computed tomography showed a right orbital floor fracture. After reduction of the herniated tissue into the orbit, an implant was inserted and fibrin glue was applied to stabilize the implant. This procedure was performed without difficulty, but the patient complained of persistent diplopia and limited eyeball movement after surgery. An imaging study showed a mass-like lesion, which was not a hematoma, in the orbital cavity. In a second operation, the mass was identified as clotted fibrin glue that had not been applied properly. After removal, the patient's symptoms were relieved without further complications. Appropriate and careful application of fibrin glue is necessary to avoid unnecessary complications.

Epidemiological characteristics of classical swine fever outbreak at Jeonbuk area in 2003 (전북지역에서 발생한 돼지콜레라의 역학적 특성)

  • Classical swine fever (CSF) was confirmed in 19 herds in Jeunbuk provence (Iksan, Gimje, Wanju, Buan, and Jangsu) in Korea between March and May, 2003 and 10,263 pigs were slaughtered. Pigs contacted with CSF virus in primary outbreak farm show fever, reduced appetite, arched back and chill in company with sever respirative sign and then most infected farms also were observed to fever, reduced appetite, sudden death, and leukopenia (101 pigs). In order to detecting infectious pig with CSF virus, A total of 555 pigs were inspected in 65 herds and blood samples were collected and serological test (ELISA), antigen ELISA, and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) had been done. Positive rate were $74\%$ (410 pigs) in antibody ELISA, $2\%$ (11 pigs) in antigen ELISA and $33\%$ (182 pigs) in RT-PCR, respectively. As shown that the RT-PCR was useful than the ELISA for determining CSF virus in blood, meat, and other organs.

Analysis of Glucose, Cholesterol, AST and ALT in Sera of Man Workers in Jeonbuk Area (전북지역 남자 근로자의 혈청 Glucose, Cholesterol, AST, ALT 농도 분석)

  • We determined the concentration of glucose, cholesterol, AST and ALT in sera of man workers (n=3,247) had health check-up at hospitls in Jeonbuk area. The mean of concentration of glucose, cholesterol and AST of all workers were increased by 0.1%, 14.9% and 33.0% over than the mean of reference, but the mean of ALT was decreased by 0.8% from it. The rate of workers showed abnormal value of glucose, cholesterol, AST and ALT were 9.7%, 25.4%, 23.7% and 5.5%, respectively. The mean of glucose, cholesterol and AST in each age group were increased over than reference, but the mean of ALT was decreased except in fifties. The rate of the workers in each age group showed an abnormal concentration of glucose, cholesterol, AST and ALT were in 5.6~6.7%, 14.9~31.1%, 20.4~29.2% and 5.2~6.0%, respectively. These data suggest that many workers in Jeonbuk area are opened in possibility of getting diabetes, liver disease and heart disease.

A Study on Greenhouse Gas Emission Characteristics for Regional Governments (A Case Study of Jeonbuk Province) (지자체 온실가스 배출특성 분석연구-전라북도 14개 시·군 사례)

  • For each local town (6 cities and 8 counties) affiliated with Jeonbuk provincial government, characteristics of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were analyzed and key emission areas were drawn to establish mitigation policies of the regional greenhouse gases. National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) reported that the total greenhouse gas emission of Jeonbuk was 20.93 million $tCO_2e$ in 2006. The inland area of 5 cities and 1 county (Jeonju, Gunsan, Iksan, Jungeup, Kimje, Wanju) covered 82% of total greenhouse gas emission in Jeonbuk, while the rest local towns of the province, mostly from mountainous areas were responsible for the rest of the total GHG emission. The cities and counties having relatively higher emission in Jeonbuk province were influenced dominantly by the emission from energy and waste sections. Also, agricultural section showed similar tendency except industrial cities such as Gunsan and Jeonju. In the internal portion of city and county, energy section showed the highest portion at the range of 72.1 (Sunchang)~97.0% (Jeonju) and agricultural section was at the range of 1.2% (Jeonju)~26.6 (Sunchang). When the portion of energy section was higher, the lower agricultural section. The emission index was applied to decide the key city and county and the potential city and county with two methodologies in this study. It was required that the key emission areas were drawn to establish regional greenhouse gases mitigation policies.

  • A 78-year-old female patient referred by the department of obstetrics and gynecology was recommended for orthopedic surgery because a cystic lesion was found in the left femoral proximal area in the bone mineral densitometry. CT scan and general X-ray performed in the orthopedic department found benign tumors later. Intra-medullary nail was operated. Curettage and bone graft were performed. Radiotechnologist is also important for the morphological observation of femur in the femoral BMD. It provides a lot of benefits to the patient.

Comparison of dorsal and medial arthroscopic approach to canine coxofemoral joint: a cadaveric study

  • Background: Arthroscopic exploration of ventromedial part of canine coxofemoral joint is limited in conventional dorsal approach. Objectives: We evaluated the efficacy of a medial arthroscopic approach to the coxofemoral joint of dogs by analyzing the joint visible area and performing a safety analysis. Methods: Arthroscopic approaches to the coxofemoral joint were made in five cadavers using a traditional (dorsal) and novel (medial) approach. Three observers scored the visible area of images and videos of the acetabulum and femur. A safety analysis was performed via dissection of the medial hind limb. The distance between neurovascular structures and arthroscopic portals was measured. Results: The acetabulum was more visible in the dorsal than in the medial approach, with mean visualization scores of 16 ± 0.00 and 11.83 ± 1.26, respectively. The medioventral side of the femur was significantly more visible in the medial than in the dorsal approach, with mean visualization scores of 3.9 ± 0.99 and 6.93 ± 0.58, respectively. Safety analysis confirmed the medial portal site was safe, provided that the surgeon has comprehensive knowledge of the joint. The minimum distance from the arthroscopic medial portals to the nearest neurovascular structures was 2.5 mm. Conclusions: A medial arthroscopic approach to the canine coxofemoral joint has potential clinical application. Dorsal and medial approaches differ significantly and have distinct purposes. The medial approach is useful to access the ventromedial joint, making it an eligible diagnostic method for an arthroscopic evaluation of this area.
