This paper presents a response spectrum analysis procedure suitable for base isolated regular buildings subjected to near fault ground motions. This procedure is based on the fact that the isolation system may be treated separately since the superstructure behaves as a rigid body on well selected isolation systems. The base isolated building is decomposed into several single-degree of freedom systems, the first one having the total weight of the building is isolated while the remainder when superposed they replicate approximately the behavior of the superstructure. The response of the isolation system is governed by a response spectrum generated for a single isolated mass. The concept of the procedure and its application for the analysis of base isolated structures is illustrated with an example. The present analysis procedure is shown to be accurate enough for the preliminary design and overcomes the limits of applicability of the conventional linear response spectrum analysis.

Base isolation is an effective method for protecting structures against earthquake hazard. It elongates the period of vibration and introduces supplemental damping to the structural system. The stiffness, damping and displacement are coupled forcing the code seismic design procedure to be unnecessarily complicated. In addition, the force reduction factor -a key parameter in the design procedurehas not been well addressed by seismic design codes at the high levels of damping due to the pronounced difference between pseudo and actual accelerations. In this study, a comparison has been conducted to evaluate eight different methods, in the literature, for calculating the force reduction factor due to damping. Accordingly, a simplified seismic analysis procedure has been proposed based on the well documented N2 method. Comprehensive analysis has been performed for base-isolated structure models for direct application and verification of the proposed procedure. The results have been compared with those of the European code EC8, the nonlinear time history analysis and investigations in the literature, where good agreement has been reported. In addition, a discussion has been elaborated for the resulted response of the base-isolated structure models with respect to the dynamic characteristics of the base isolation system.
During in door or outdoor mass culture, Porphyra have been easily contaminated with bacteria, protozoa and microalgal species. Several axenic treatments for Porphyra thalli have been published (Polne-Fuller and Gibo 1984; Chen and McCracken 1993), but axenic techniques for neutral spores and conchocelis we not developed. In this work we describe the procedure for axenic isolation of neutral spores and conchocelis of Porphyra yezoensis (omitted)
This paper analyzes the backgrounds of the standards for protection against electric shock in Global Technical Regulations (GTR) of Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV). Targets on research were high voltage criteria, safety current, isolation and grounding resistance, time limitation, energy, adequate clearance, and test procedure. Based on human impedance and effect of current in IEC 60479-1, safety of human was examined. Then, isolation and grounding circuit model of FCV were analyzed theoretically. The results give several suggestions: touch voltage less than 25V, AC energy less than 0.0813J, separation considering middle finger length, grounding resistance less than $0.2\Omega$, maximum AC ground voltage of 1V (rms), and isolation resistance between earth and electrical chassis. In MATLAB/Simulink environment, error characteristics of isolation resistance measurement procedure using internal DC sources were analyzed under variations of internal resistance of voltmeter and isolation resistance.
Chicken bone is not adequately utilized despite its high nutritional value and protein content. Although not a common raw material, chicken bone can be used in many different ways besides manufacturing of collagen products. In this study, a multi-step procedure was optimized to isolate chicken bone collagen for higher yield and quality for manufacture of collagen products. The chemical composition of chicken bone was 2.9% nitrogen corresponding to about 15.6% protein, 9.5% fat, 14.7% mineral and 57.5% moisture. The lowest amount of protein loss was aimed along with the separation of the highest amount of visible impurities, non-collagen proteins, minerals and fats. Treatments under optimum conditions removed 57.1% of fats and 87.5% of minerals with respect to their initial concentrations. Meanwhile, 18.6% of protein and 14.9% of hydroxyproline were lost, suggesting that a selective separation of non-collagen components and isolation of collagen were achieved. A significant part of impurities were selectively removed and over 80% of the original collagen was preserved during the treatments.
With verifications through many relevant researches in the past few decades, adopting the equivalent lateral force procedure for designing seismically isolated structures as a preliminary or even final design approach has become considerably mature and publicly acceptable, especially for seismic isolation systems that mechanically exhibit bilinear hysteretic behavior. During the design procedure, in addition to a given seismic demand, structural designers still need to previously determine three parameters, such as mechanical properties of seismic isolation systems or design parameters and performance indices of seismically isolated structures. However, an arbitrary or improper selection of given parameters might cause diverse or even unacceptable design results, thus troubling structural designers very much. In this study, first, based on the criterion that at least either two design parameters or two performance indices of seismically isolated structures are decided previously, the rationality and applicability of design results obtained from different conditions are examined. Moreover, to consider variations of design parameters of seismically isolated structures attributed to uncertainties of mechanical properties of seismic isolation systems, one of the conditions is adopted to perform bounding analysis for seismic isolation design. The analysis results indicate that with a reasonable equivalent damping ratio designed, considering a specific variation for two design parameters (the effective stiffness and equivalent damping ratio) could present more conservative bounding design results (in terms of isolation displacement and acceleration transmissibility) than considering the same variation but for two mechanical properties (the characteristic strength and post-yield stiffness).

Seismic isolation has developed to the point where it may be considered as a viable design alternate for a wide range of building structures. However, it needs to consider various aspects to adopt a suitable isolation system for buildings practically. This report presents the basis for the preliminary design procedure which has been developed for the seismic isolation system using the lead rubber bearings. The design procedures have been developed to ensure that the bearings will safely support the maximum gravity load throughout the life of the structure while they provide a period shift and hysteretic damping during the design earthquake.
In a previous paper, ambient vibration tests were conducted on a cable stayed bridge with resilient-friction base isolation systems (R-FBI) to extract the dynamic characteristics of the bridge and compare the results with a seismic analysis model. In this paper, a nonlinear seismic analysis model was established for analysis of the bridge to compare the difference in seismic responses between nonlinear time history analysis and multi-mode spectral analysis methods in the seismic design phase of cable supported bridges. Through these studies, it was confirmed that the seismic design procedures of the "Korean Highway Bridge Design Code (Limit State Design) for Cable Supported Bridges" is not suitable for cable supported bridges installed with R-FBI. Therefore, to reflect the actual dynamic characteristics of the R-FBI installed on cable-supported bridges, an improved seismic design procedure is proposed that applies the seismic analysis method differently depending on the seismic isolation effect of the R-FBI for each seismic performance level.
In this study a vibration isolation system with the cradle-type support was designed so as to reduce the transient vibration due to positioning motion of the moving mass on worktable as well as to achieve the desired isolation efficiency on the floor vibration. The design procedure was performed in the two steps. The first step to select appropriate isolators to meet the isolation efficiency, and the second step is to reduce the transient vibration of the worktable by adopting the cradle-type support. After the application of the selected isolators with the cradle-type support to the system it was shown that the required vibration criterion(VC-D) was easily satisfied and that the undesirable transient vibration was reduced remarkably.
As applying an active control technique to a pneumatic vibration isolation system, the settling time for the payload excitation could be remarkably reduced as well as the improvement of isolation performance for the ground vibration. Some previous researches were dealt with the settling time through the simulation or experiment but, the discussion on the simulation or experimental results including moving parts, such as a XY-stage, on the isolation table rarely exists. As considering the moving part, the dynamic model could be time varying system and in such a case the force imposed on pneumatic vibration isolation table could be described by inertial forces of moving parts according to Newton's 3rd law, the action and reaction law. In this paper, the simulation procedure of the 3-DOF active pneumatic vibration isolation system including moving parts by TDC(time delay control) technique is proposed and the effectiveness through simulation results are also shown.
