The expansion of irrigated agricultural production can be appropriate for the southeast region in the U.S. as a climate change adaptation strategy. This study investigated the effect of supplemental development of irrigated agriculture on the regional economy by applying the supply side Georgia multiregional input-output (MRIO) model. For the analysis, 100% conversion of non-irrigated cultivable acreage into irrigated acreage for cotton, peanuts, corn, and soybeans in 42 counties of southwest Georgia is assumed. With this assumption, the difference in total net returns of production between the non-irrigation and irrigation method is calculated as input data of the Georgia MRIO model. Based on the information of a 95% confidence interval for each crop's average price, the lower and upper bounds of estimated results are also presented. The total impact of cotton production was $60 million with the range of $35 million to $85 million: The total impact of peanuts, soybeans, corn was $10.2 million (the range of $3.28 million to $23.7 million), $6.6 million (the range of $3.1 million to $10.2 million), $1.2 million (the range of -$6 million to $8.5 million), respectively.

In this paper, we present the different characteristics of NDVI fluctuation pattern between irrigated and non-irrigated area in Suphanburi province, in Central Thailand. For non-irrigated rice cultivation area, there is a strong correlation between NDVI fluctuation and peak rainfall, while there is a lower correlation with irrigated area. In this study, the 'peak detector' classifier was developed to identify the area of non-irrigated and irrigated cropping and its cropping intensity (number of crops per year). This classifier was created based on cropping characteristics such as number of crops, time or planting period of each crop and its relationship with the peak of rainfall. The classified result showed good accuracy in identification irrigated and nonirrigated rice cultivation areas.
In order top investigate the growth of water dropwort grown by sandculture irrigated with recirculated tilapia aquaculture water, these experiments were carried out. Fish(tilapia) production and biofiltration provided by sand cultured water dropwort(Oenanthe stolonifera DC.) were linked in a closed system of recirculation water. Water dropwort was irrigated with water drawn from the tilapia tank and drainage from sand beds was returned to the fish tank. The temperature, pH and EC of tilapia culture water were stable. The growth of water dropwort grown by sandculture with aquaculture water was normal. Microbial activity of the biofilterbed irrigated by tilapia rearing water was higher than that of biofilterbed irrigated by tapwater. The feasibility of an integrated, recirculatory system for concurrent production of water dropwort and fish with no additional fertilization application was demonstrated.
BACKGROUND: Reuse of waste nutrient solution for the cultivation of crops could lead to considerable conservation of water resources, plant nutrients, and water quality. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the potential for reducing the use of chemical fertilizer in Chinese cabbage cultivation via the reuse of waste nutrient solution as an alternative irrigation resource. METHODS AND RESULTS: The nutrients supplied in the waste nutrient solution consisted of 1474.5, 1285.1, 991.6, and 872.6 mg/L for $K+$, ${NO_3}^-$, $Ca^{2+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$, respectively. At 56 days after transplanting (DAT), the leaf length of Chinese cabbage plants irrigated with the waste nutrient solution treatment was significantly higher than that of plants irrigated using a conventional groundwater treatment. Additionally, the leaf width, fresh weight and dry weight of the plants irrigated with the waste nutrient solution were similar or greater than that of plants irrigated with a conventional treatment. Furthermore, the growth of plants treated with the waste nutrient solution +25% fertilizer was the highest among all tested treatments. CONCLUSION(s): These results indicate that the waste nutrient solution can be used as an alternate water resource for crop cultivation. In addition, it can contribute to reduce the fertilizer and to obtain the higher crop yield of Chinese cabbage.

The economic evaluation of the feasibility of expanding fully irrgated agriculture in the Ogseo project must consider preproject yields of rice under rainfed and partially irrigated paddy cultivation in order to assess incremental incomes from irrigation. Statistical data on yields available from official sources and field surveys conducted in the project area do not specify whether given unit yields refer to actually cropped or potentially cropped lands. This latter factor obviously affects any evaluation of marginal benefits to be derived from irrigation as the extent of rainfed areas actually cropped varies from year to year according to rain fall at the critical growth periods for low land rice. Although less dependent on direct rainfall, yields from partially irrigated lands are also highly affected by seasonal rainfalls. In this paper on attempt has been made to determine average yield under rainfed and partially irrigated conditions by relating yields to a available water. For rainfed paddy cultivation, the analysis discriminates between effects of rain deficiencies during transplanting and subsquent growth periods. For partially irrigated paddy cultivation, seasonal rainfalls have been considered, implying sufficient storage capacity for supplementary irrigation. The average yield of rainfed paddy has been calculated as 2.11 t/ha and that of partially irrigated paddy as 2.8 t/ha. Assuming even division between these two water supply patterns of areas not fully irrigated, a composite yield of 2.46 t/ha is oftained. This figure will be adopted as the basis for the on-going studies and project evaluation.
Water shortages are expected to be a major impact of climate change. This study examined the growth of Chinese cabbage seedling using reclaimed wastewater and waste nutrient solution as alternative irrigation resources. Generally, the concentration of nutrients, such as $K^+$, $NH_4^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Cl^-$,$NO_3^-$, $PO_4^-$ and $SO_4^{2-}$, in waste nutrient solution was higher than that in wastewater. However, Chinese cabbage seedling irrigated with wastewater was supplied a higher concentration of $Na^+$ and $Cl^-$ than waste nutrient solution. The growth of Chinese cabbage seedling irrigated with waste nutrient solution was similar or higher than those irrigated with groundwater as control, while the growth of those irrigated with wastewater was similar to those irrigated with groundwater. The total nitrogen uptake in Chinese cabbage seedling irrigated with groundwater, waste nutrient solution from organic and inorganic hydroponic cultures, and wastewater was 5.47, 10.02, 5.20, and 4.59 mg/plant, respectively. The nitrogen uptake of Chinese cabbage seedling irrigated with waste nutrient solution from organic hydroponic substrates in a 50% lower dose than recommended was 8.34 mg/plant, which is higher than that of the cabbage irrigated with groundwater. Overall, the results suggest that waste nutrient solution and wastewater can be used as alternate water resources, and can allow a reduction in the amount of fertilizer needed to raise Chinese cabbage seedling.

The objectives of this study were to monitor and analyse water quality and soil property in paddy fields where untreated wastewater is irrigated. Three paddy fields where streamflow mixed with untreated wastewater has been irrigated (untreated wastewater district, UWD) were selected for monitoring, and five paddy fields in Yongin area (Yongin district, YID) where water from Idong agricultural reservoir (well-managed) has been irrigated were selected for comparative evaluation. Electronic conductivity (EC), suspended solids (SS), total nitrogen (T-N), total phosphorous (T-P), $NO_3-N$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Na^+$, total coliform (TC), fecal coliform (FC), and E. coli of the irrigation water in the UWD were significantly higher than those in the YID. Relatively high concentrations of EC, T-N, T-P, TC, FC, E. coli, copper (Cu), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), and aluminium (Al) were shown in the irrigation water of the UWD especially during May to June. In general, the paddy soil in the UWD contained more Pb, Zn, and Cu than in the YID although the soil heavy metal contents in the UWD still meet the Korean soil contamination warning standards. No temporal trends in the heavy metal concentrations were found in paddy soils of the UWD. This study showed that the use of untreated wastewater to paddy fields has the possibility of negative impacts on water quality and soil, although long-term monitoring is needed to fully evaluate its effects.
Irrigation applications (IA) and increased bud load (BL) are fundamental practices that are used to achieve optimum yields in grape production, while maintaining fruit quality parameters. Two different irrigation amounts (IA-I and IA-II) based on growth stages, in addition to a non-irrigated (rain-fed) control, along with two different BL applications [normal bud load based on traditional pruning practices (1BL) and double bud load (2BL)] were evaluated over a two-year experiment for their effects on the biochemical composition of the berries. Berries from the rain-fed vines had higher sugar levels, whereas no significant change was detected in organic acid levels. The increased bud load (2BL) treatment yielded less sugar in the berries compared to the 1BL control in both years. The total non-colored phenolic compounds (NPC) were greater in the irrigated (especially IA-I) and 2BL treatments than in those of the rain-fed and 1BL control. However, total anthocyanin was greater in the non-irrigated and 1BL control than in the irrigated and 2BL treatments. The antioxidant contents of the berries also varied according to the treatments and years. Our results implied that implementing a higher bud load along with the IA-I irrigation application, in which irrigation applications were 50 and 75% of the cumulative evaporation from the Class A pan during berry set to veraison and veraison to harvest growth stages, respectively, can help in obtaining greater yields in high-plateau viticulture. Thus, if more buds are left on the vines, along with sufficient irrigation and rainfall, yield may increase while maintaining or increasing the biochemical composition of the berries.
The study was carried out to investigate the water balance and losses of nutrients from paddy fields during cropping period. The size of paddy fields was 95 ha and the fields were irrigated from a pumping station. The runoff loading was the highest in June because of the high concentrations of nutrients due to applied fertilizer, When the runoff Bosses of nutrients were compared to applied chemical fertilizer, it was found that 39.1 % to 42.5 % of nitrogen lost via runoff while runoff losses of phosphorus account for 14.5 % to 17 % of the total applied amount during cropping period. When the ratio was calculated between nutrients losses by infiltration and the applied of chemical fertilizer, two year results showed 9.1% to 10.8% for nitrogen and 0.5% for phosphorus, respectively.

The construction of the equipment of water utilization has been developed since the ancient Korea period, 1906 in order to develope and modernize the agriculture. As the results, 83% of total paddy field area, 1,268,949.8 ha has developed into the irrigated paddy field, and the rest of area, 17% has remained nonirrigated paddy field (due to the data of the statistics of 1975). The ratio of the irrigated paddy field area among the total weir was marked 13.14% (area, 137,926.3 ha) and the third grade of total irrigated paddy field in accordance with the facilities of water utilization. In case of Gangwon-Do, the 44.18 percentage of the total irrigated paddy field, 51,057.2ha has been and pointed out first grade. As the results, we found out the following articles : 1. The total weir, 1,641 that sumed concrete weir 647 and conventional weir 967 has been constructed and has irrigated the 44.l8% of total irrigated paddy field of Gangwon-Do. 2. These weirs have been public possession of those villages to be 96.1 percentage of total weir and was controled by them. 3. Those weirs that were constructed across tributary (first, secondary and third tributary) at vallies (elevation 100∼1,000m) have marked that 45 percentage of total number of catchment area has 100∼1,000 ha, and 70 percentage of total number of basin area has been below 10 ha and has constructed about 5 of step-shape. 4. The construction of most weirs has became generally about 50m length, about 1m height. 5. The 80 percentage of newly constructed concrete weir has aged below 10 years. It seemed that 79 percentage of conventional weir has aged over 20 years and 41% of contructed weir has needed to be improved quickly. 6. If privious weirs, 296 will constructed newly, they can irrigate 3,600.8 ha of paddy field and 45.8% of total irrigated paddy field will have been and will contribute to the production of much rice.
