  • Reproductive cycle, first sexual maturity, spawning amount related with the size and spawning interval in female Ruditapes philippinarum were investigated by histological observation and the analysis of morphometric data during artificial spawning induction. Ruditapes philippinarum is dioecious and oviparous. The reproductive cycle of this species can be subdivided into five successive stages: early active stage (January to March), late active stage (February to May), ripe stage (April to August), partially spawned stage (May to October), and spent/inactive stage (August to February). The spawning period was once a year between May and early October, and the main spawning occurred between July and August when seawater temperature was approximately $20^{\circ}C$. Percentages of first sexual maturity of female clam of 15.1-20.0 mm in shell length were 56.3%, and 100% for the clams > 25.1 mm. The mean number of the spawned eggs increased with the increase of size classes (shell length). In case of spawning induction by the same size class, the number of spawned eggs were gradually decreased with the increase of spawning frequencies (the first, second, and third spawnings). In the experiments of artificial spawning induction during the spawning season, the interval of each spawning was estimated to be 15-17 days (average 16.5 days).

  • The pitch searching is a very important process in a vocoder. Generally, the method of pitch searching method is used by highlighting the periodicity, where a correlation is identified with the signal by changing the interval of two pulses. When the correlation value is highest, the pitch can be found by the pulse interval because it is the repetition interval with most striking period. There are many methods to solve this problem and search the pitch by dividing a frame into many subframes, but there is too much calculation to solve. A method in this paper is suggested to vary the number of subframes by predicting the amplitude change rate in a frame. If this method is applied, the general pitch searching performance will be improved because the accuracy may be enhanced without affecting the sound quality in the synthesized signal after parameter transmission; and the pitch searching time may be reduced.

  • The complex analysis of the pedigree records of Czech Landrace (CLA), Czech Large White-dam line (CLWd), Czech Large White-sire line (CLWs), Duroc (DC), and Pietrain (PN) was performed to determine trends of genetic diversity (GD), and to find the main sources of the GD loss. The total size of the pedigree was 132,365, 391,151, 32,913, 13,299, and 7,160 animals in CLA, CLWd, CLWs, DC, and PN, respectively. Animals born in the years 2011 through 2013 were assumed as the reference population. The average pedigree completeness index for one generation back was 95.9%, 97.4%, 91.2%, 89.8%, and 94.2% for appropriate breeds. Number of ancestors explaining 100% of gene pool was 186, 373, 125, 157, and 37 in CLA, CLWd, CLWs, DC, and PN, respectively. The relative proportion of inbred animals (58%, 58%, 54%, 47%, and 25%), the average inbreeding (2.7%, 1.4%, 2.5%, 3.6%, and 1.3%) and the average co-ancestry (3.1%, 1.6%, 3.3%, 4.2%, and 3.3%) were found over the past decade in analysed breeds. The expected inbreeding under random mating increased during the last 10 years in CLWs and PN and varied from 1.27% to 3.2%. The effective population size computed on the basis of inbreeding was 76, 74, 50, 35, and 83 in 2012 in CLA, CLWd, CLWs, DC, and PN, respectively. The shortest generation interval (1.45) was observed for CLWd in sire to son selection pathway. The longest generation interval obtained PN (1.95) in sire to daughter pathway. The average relative GD loss within last generation interval was 7.05%, 4.70%, 9.81%, 7.47%, and 10.46%, respectively. The relative proportion of GD loss due to genetic drift on total GD loss was 85.04%, 84.51%, 89.46%, 86.19%, and 83.68% in CLA, CLWd, CLWs, DC, and PN, respectively. All breeds were characterized by a high proportion of inbred animals, but the average inbreeding was low. The most vulnerable breeds to loss of GD are DC and PN. Therefore, a breeding program should be more oriented to prevent the increase of GD loss in these breeds.

  • Since the late of 1990, there have been number of studies on the required number of probe vehicles and/or optimal aggregation interval sizes for travel time estimation and forecasting. However, in general one to five minutes are used as aggregation intervals for the travel time estimation intervals for the travel time estimation and/or forecasting of loop detector system without a reasonable validation. The objective of this study is to deveop models for identifying optimal aggregation interval sizes of loop detector data for travel time estimation and prediction. This study developed Cross Valiated Mean Square Error (CVMSE) model for the link and route travel time forecasting, The developed models were applied to the loop detector data of Kyeongbu expressway. It was found that the optimal aggregation sizes for the travel time estimation and forecasting are three to five minutes and ten to twenty minutes, respectively.

  • The Friction Stir Welding(FSW) has mainly been used for making butt joints in Al alloys. Development of Friction Stir Lap Welding(FSLW) would expand the number of applications. Microstructure of FSLW in A5052-H112 alloy was investigated under varying rotation and welding speed. As the rotation speed was increased and the welding speed was decreased, a amount of heat was increased. As a result, bead interval was narrower, bead width are larger, and experimental bead interval was almost similar to theoretical bead interval. Typical microstructures of FSLW A5052-H112 alloy consist of three zones, including Stir Zone(SZ), Thermo-Mechanically Affected Zone(TMAZ) and Heat Affected Zone(HAZ). As a amount of heat was increased, average grain size was larger in three zones. Nevertheless, the aspect ratio was almost fixed for FSLW conditions. The misorientation of SZ, HAZ and TMAZ was examined. A large number of low angle grain boundaries, which were formed by severe plastic deformation, were showed in TMAZ as comparison with SZ and HAZ. Microhardness distribution was high in order of BM, SZ, TMAZ, and HAZ. The Micro-hardness distribution in HAZ, TMAZ of upper plate were lager than lower plate. Relationship between average grain size and microhardness was almost corresponded to Hall-Petch equation.

  • The scheduling of planned maintenance problem of a system consisting of a number of components was studied. The purpose of maintenance scheduling is to minimize the cost of maintaining long-term operations. On the system side, the cost of a system shutdown can be minimized by grouping and inspecting a number of components. In addition, proper inspection cycles can be selected for each component to identify the failure sufficiently early to minimize the cost of the failure. To reduce the complexity of the calculations, the 'base interval approach' used in previous studies was applied and, in addition, the inspection cost savings from simultaneous inspections of multiple components were considered. To compare the effectiveness of inspection cost savings, this paper presents the results of simulation analysis performed by referring to the cases in the existing studies.

  • Background: A recent guideline by the American Cancer Society recommended that mammography (MMG) should be done for women starting in their mid-40s. In Thailand, information on opportunistic mammography screening is limited and data on the total incidence of breast cancer are also lacking. The purpose of this study was to estimate the breast cancer detection, incident and prevalence rates among Thai women. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the opportunistic mammography screening of normal women between 30 and 80 years who underwent the procedure between 2001 and 2010. All cases were followed until 2012. The detection rate was calculated for the whole period of observation using 'number of women with positive findings' divided by 'total number of women screened'. The incidence rate was calculated only at the first MMG while the subsequence rate was calculated based on all new cases detected at each subsequent MMG. Results: Among the 47,430 women, there were 152,091 MMGs or approximately 3.2 occasions per person (range, 1-10). The average duration of the interval between each subsequence visit was 1.8 years. Overall, breast cancer was detected in 543 women, with a detection rate of 10.3 per 1,000 persons. The prevalence rate of breast cancer at the first visit was 5.78 per 1,000 persons. The incidence or new cases detected at any follow-up visit was 10.4 per 1,000 persons. The overall interval cancer was 0.91 per 1,000 women, mainly detected before their second and third MMG, with a rate of 0.0.47 and 0.76 per 1,000 women. Conclusions: Opportunistic mammography screening in Thailand detected 10 case of breast cancer from each 1,000 women. This paper indicated a high rate of cancer detection during a two year interval, hence, a screening mammogram should be performed more often.

  • This paper analyses the energy saving basic power models in core IP networks, and proposes the adaptive buffer and burst scheme which is a possible energy saving method, and its implementation algorithm in core IP networks. Especially this paper describes the adaptive buffer and burst scheme dynamically varying the buffering interval B according to the input traffic volume of ingress router, and explains the operation principle of proposed scheme. This method is to adjust the buffering interval B according to input traffic volume of ingress router, that is increasing the interval B when input traffic volume is low, and decreasing the interval B when input traffic volume is high between some given interval regions. This method can gets the high energy saving effect as decreasing the transition number of idle/active in networks when input traffic volume is low, and decreasing the transition number of idle/active by the continuous of burst packets in transit router when input traffic volume is high. This paper shows the increasing of asleep rate for the energy saving of core IP networks and confirms the energy saving of core IP networks by the computer simulation. We confirmed that proposed method can be save the energy of IP networks by properly trade off network performances.

  • Bacillus subtilis BD0310 isolated from tea leaves was used for the development of a biofungicide against Pestitalotiopsis longiseta causing gray blight of tea plants. After mass culture of the antagonistic bacteria, the biofungicide formulated as a suspension concentrate was evaluated for its control efficacy against the gray blight of tea plant in a greenhouse and a tea plantation, respectively. Spray of the biofungicide 2 days before inoculation of P. longiseta inhibited more efficiently the development of gray blight compared with spray of the biofungicide 2 days after inoculation of the pathogen onto the leaves of tea plants in a greenhouse. In the field investigation under application of the biofungicide in 2005 and 2006, control efficiencies increased according to the number of spray of the biofungicide. Control efficiencies of the biofungicide were 52.4%, 66.7%, 71.4% and 85.7% against gray blight in 4 times spray of the biofungicide alone at 7 days interval, 6 times spray of the biofungicide alone at 7 days interval, 2 times alternate spray of biofungicide and chemical fungicide at 7 days interval and 4 times spray of chemical fungicide alone at 7 days interval, respectively. Therefore, the alternate application of the biofungicide and chemical fungicide at 7 days interval can increase the control efficiency with reduction of the amount of chemical fungicides and the number of spray for the control of gray blight of tea plants in the field.
