  • \In this paper, we consider the optimal scheduling of detection and tracking parameters in phased array radars to minimize the radar energy required for track maintenance in a cluttered environment. We develop a mathematical model of target detection induced by a search process in phased array radars. In the mathematical development, we take into account the effect of unwanted measurements that may have originated from clutter or false alarms in the detection process. We use and analytic approximation of the modified Riccati equation of the probabilistic data association (PDA) filter to take into account the effect of clutter interference in tracking. Based on the search process and the tracking models, we formulate the optimal scheduling problem into a nonlinear optimal control problem. We solve a constrained nonlinear optimization problem to obtain the solution of the optimal control problem.

  • Serial links via backplane channels suffer from severe signal integrity problems which are normally caused by channel imperfections, such as flat loss, frequency-dependent loss, reflection, etc. Particularly, the frequency-dependent loss causes ISI(Inter-Symbol-Interference) at signal waveforms. Therefore, adaptive equalizing techniques have been exploited in many products to facilitate the ISI problem. In this paper, we present an analog adaptive equalizer circuit designed in a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. It achieves 10Gb/s data transmission through a long 34-inch backplane channel(or transmission line). The post-layout simulations demonstrate $8ps_{p-p}$ jitter with 10mW power dissipation. The core of the adaptive equalizer occupies the area of $0.56mm^2$.

  • The purpose of hull stress monitoring system(HSMS) is to lead hull structure to be safer at lower cost. We proposed a hull stress monitoring system for leisure boats using fiber-optic bragg grating(FBG) strain sensor. Fiber optic sensors are well suited for structure monitoring system, due to their ability to withstand harsh environments, immunity to electromagnetic interference, and reduce cabling installation cost when employing wavelength multiplexing. This paper presents an overview of current research and design of hull stress monitoring system for leisure boats.

  • A series of study has been conducted to develop a multi-purpose fruit grader using a black & white image processing system equipped with a 550 nm interference filter. A device and high performance algorithms were developed for sizing and color grading of Fuji apple in the previous study. In this study an emphasis was put on finding correlations between weights of several kinds of fruits and their area fractions(AF), and on compensating the blurring effect upon sizing and color grading by conveying speed of fruit. Also, the effect of orientation and direction of fruit on conveyor during image forming was analyzed to identify any difficulty (or utilizing an automatic fruit feeder. The results are summarized as follows. 1. The correlation coefficients(r) between the weights of fruits and their image sizes were 0.984~0.996 for apples, 0.983~0.990 for peachs, 0.995 for tomato, 0.986 for sweet persimmon and 0.970~0.993 for pears. 2. It was possible to grade fruits by color with the area weighted mean gray values(AWMGV) based on the mean gray valves of direct image and the compensated values of reflected image of a fruit, and also possible to sort fruits by size with AF. Accuracies in sizing and color grading ranged over 81.0% ~95.0% and 82.0% ~89.7% respectively as compared with results from sizing by electronic weight scale and grading by expert. 3. The blurring effect on the sizing and color grading depending on conveying speed was identified and regression equations were derived. 4. It was found that errors in sizing and coloring grading due to the change in direction and orientation of Fuji apple on the conveyor were not significant as far as the stem end of apple keeping upward.

  • The process of transmitting messages through a medium with a limited bandwidth or channel dispersion inevitably involves signal distortion and noise influxes, resulting in the degradation of transmission quality due to the inter-symbol interference and additional noise, which increases the error rate of the received symbols. The main role of the equalizer is to remove the channel distortion and noise from the received signal to recover the transmitted messages. A number of studies on the equalizer composed of a combination of linear filter and error control coding have shown that they played a key role in enhancing the transmission efficiency, which is essential for digital communication. This paper proposes a new algorithm to correct the residual symbol errors in the message signal. In general, equalizer performance improvement algorithms were developed to improve the initial convergence speed or steady-state error. In this paper, however, the equalizer input signal was reconstructed using the equalizer decision symbols and the channel estimates to directly correct the decision errors by analyzing the statistical characteristics of the difference signal between the actual received signal and the reconstructed signal.

  • The systematic and effective design method of a Class-D current-source resonant inverter for use in an induction cooker with zero-ripple line current is presented. The design procedure is based on the principle of the Class-D current-source resonant inverter with a simplified load network model that is a parallel equivalent circuit. An induction load characterization is obtained from a large-signal excitation test-bench based on parallel load network, which is the key to an accurate design for the induction cooker system. Accordingly, the proposed scheme provides a systematic, precise, and feasible solution than the existing design method based on series-parallel load network under low-signal excitation. Moreover, a zero-ripple condition of utility-line input current is naturally preserved without any extra circuit or control. Meanwhile, a differential-mode input electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter can be eliminated, high power quality in utility-line can be obtained, and a standard-recovery diode of bridge-rectifier can be employed. The step-by-step design procedure explained with design example. The devices stress and power loss analysis of induction cooker with a parallel load network under large-signal excitation are described. A 2,500-W laboratory prototype was developed for $220-V_{rms}/50-Hz$ utility-line to verify the theoretical analysis. An efficiency of the prototype is 96% at full load.

  • For a grid-connected inverter in distributed generation systems, the current control is essential, and recently, the predictive current control based on a high performance digital signal processors (DSP) to satisfy a fast dynamic response has been widely investigated. However, the performance of predictive current control is degraded by the time delay due to digital implementation, the parameter and measured value errors and the interference of noise, and also theses make system even unstable. Therefore, this paper proposes the predictive current control using grid voltage observer for grid-connected inverter applications. To determine the relevant voltage observer gain, the low-order harmonics of grid voltage are considered, and the effect of filter parameter errors is analyzed. The proposed method has a fast current response capability, the robustness to noise and simple implementation due to voltage sensorless control and the robust current control performance to low-order grid harmonics. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • This study was carried out to solve problems such as radio frequency band depletion, confusion risk, and security loss in existing visible wireless communication systems, and to determine the applicability of next-generation networks. A light-emitting diode (LED) light communication system was implemented with a controlling switching light module using the ATmega16 micro-controller. To solve the existing modulation effect and disturbance in visible light communication, an integrated interface was evaluated with a driving light module and analyzes its reception property. A transmitter/receiver using the ATmel's micro-controller, high-intensity white LED-6 modules, and infrared sensor KSM60WLM and visible sensor TSL250RD were designed. An experiment from the initial value of distance to 2.5 m showed 0.46 V of the voltage loss, and if in long distance, external light interference occurred and light intensity was lost by external impact and thus data had to be modified or reset repeatedly. Additionally, when we used 6 modules through the remote controller's lighting dimming, data could be transmitted up to 1.76 m without any errors during the day and up to 2.29 m at night with around 2~3% communication error. If a special optical filter can reduce as much external light as possible in the integrated interface, the LED for lighting communication systems may be applied in next generation networks.

  • In this paper, we propose an optimization of a pose estimation deep learning model for recognition of abnormal behavior in unmanned stores using radio frequencies. The radio frequency use millimeter wave in the 30 GHz to 300 GHz band. Due to the short wavelength and strong straightness, it is a frequency with less grayness and less interference due to radio absorption on the object. A millimeter wave radar is used to solve the problem of personal information infringement that may occur in conventional CCTV image-based pose estimation. Deep learning-based pose estimation models generally use convolution neural networks. The convolution neural network is a combination of convolution layers and pooling layers of different types, and there are many cases of convolution filter size, number, and convolution operations, and more cases of combining components. Therefore, it is difficult to find the structure and components of the optimal posture estimation model for input data. Compared with conventional millimeter wave-based posture estimation studies, it is possible to explore the structure and components of the optimal posture estimation model for input data using genetic algorithms, and the performance of optimizing the proposed posture estimation model is excellent. Data are collected for actual unmanned stores, and point cloud data and three-dimensional keypoint information of Kinect Azure are collected using millimeter wave radar for collapse and property damage occurring in unmanned stores. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the error was moored compared to the conventional posture estimation model.
