  • For the performance enhancement of communication system, high quality filters are required. Also a minimization of size of filter is required for the interation of devices in the limited area. Conventional metal filters made of copper can be substituted by high quality high temperature superconducting(HTS) films for better performance. Hairpin type filters have been designed with the center frequency 14 GHz for the size reduction. 3-pole and 4-pole filters centered at 14 GHz with the bandwidth of about 300 MHz were designed and fabricated. With the simulation results, the frequency responses showed low insertion loss and sharp skirts characteristics. The frequency response of HTS 14 GHz fi1ter was measured at 77 K and compared with the simulation results. We have compared YBCO filters and copper filters which were made with the same design rules. Simulated and measured frequency responses reveal that HTS YBCO hairpin type bandpass filters show better performance than copper filters.

  • Microarray-based DNA chips provide an architecture for multi-analyte sensing. In this paper, we report a new approach for DNA chip microarray fabrication. Multifunctional DNA chip microarray was made by immobilizing many kinds of biomaterials on transducers (particles). DNA chip microarray was prepared by randomly distributing a mixture of the particles on a chip pattern containing thousands of m-scale sites. The particles occupied a different sites from site to site. The particles were arranged on the chip pattern by the random fluidic self-assembly (RFSA) method, using a hydrophobic interaction for assembly.

  • Recently, continuous welded rail (CWR) track has been adopted for railway track structure of great advantages of reducing maintenance costs, and of increasing life time of track components and the comfort of passengers. But, in this case, a temperature or mechanical load will result in high stress and the track breakage or buckling may occur Especially when the CWR is laying on the bridge structure, the relative displacement of these structure can be increased and this results in the instability of track. In this paper, the main factors affect on the longitudinal rail force are discussed and the computer program is developed for the analysis of rail force considering the interactions with sub-structure.

  • This paper provides a simple numerical method to determine the optimal parameters of tuned mass damper (TMD) and viscoelastic dampers (VEDs) in frame structure for wind vibration control considering the soil-structure interation (SSI) effect in frequency domain. Firstly, the numerical model of frame structure equipped with TMD and VEDs considering SSI effect is established in frequency domain. Then, the genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to obtain the optimal parameters of VEDs and TMD. The optimization process is demonstrated by a 20-storey frame structure supported by pile group for different soil conditions. Two wind resistant systems are considered in the analysis, the Structure-TMD system and the Structure-TMD-VEDs system. The example proves that this method can quickly determine the optimal parameters of energy dissipation devices compared with the traditional finite element method, thus is practically valuable.

  • This study is to develop a cognitive paradigm including a new model of common cause human behavior error domain and to analyze their causal factors and their properties of common cause huamn error characteristics in software engineering.l A laboratory study was performed to analyze the common causes of human behavior domain error in software develoment and to indentify software design factors contributing to the common cause effects in common cause failure redundancy. The results and analytical paradigm developed in this resuarch can be applied to reliability improvement and cost reduction in software development for many applications. Results are also expected to provide training guideliness for software engineers and for more effective design of ultra-high reliabile software packages.

  • During cosmetic treatments, SURFACTANTS penetrate into KERATINOUS TISSUES (hair, skin and nails). Whereas some of these surfactant molecules migrate to the vital tissues, a considerable fraction remains bound to the keratin. The extent of binding depends both on the nature of the head group and the length of the hydrophobic tail of the detergent molecules. In addition to entering the amorphous region of the keratin, some of the detergents also penetrate into the crystalline microfibrils and change their structures affecting their tensile properties. Owing to an uneven distribution of detergent molecules in the tissues, an anisotropy of the elastic moduli will occur, resulting in considerable internal stresses which, in rum, might lead to a deterioration of hair, skin and nails. The chemical behavior of keratins is also influenced by the presence of absorbed detergent in their structures. Depending on the detergents and the conditions, these effects can be either protective or detrimental. The deposition of detergent molecules into keratin can be enhanced or diminished by the inclusion of appropriate ingredients into the product formulae.

  • The planning and design of coastal structures against wave attack is required to accurately predict wave transformation, wave run-up, and fluid. particlevelocities an a slope. On tire other hand, in tire swash and surf zones of a natural beach, where coastal erosion and accretion occur at tire land-sea boundary, hydrodynamic analysis is essential. In this study, a RBREAK2 numerical model was created based on the nonlinear shallow water equation and laboratory measurements were carried out in terms of tire free surface elevations and velocities for tire cases of regular and irregular waves on 1 : 10 and 1 : 5 impermeable slopes. The data were used to evaluate tire applicability and limitations of tire RBREAK2 numerical model. The numerical mode1 could predict tire cross-shore variation of the wave profile reasonably well, but showed more accurate results for slopes that were steeper than 1 : 10. Except near tire wave crest, tire computed depth averaged velocities could represent tire measured profile below tire trough level fairly well.

  • To examine local response of adenosie(purine nucleoside) on the developing mammary gland, Elvax 40P implants containing adenosine were surgically implanted into mammary fat pad of the five week old female ICR mice. Inguinal(the 4th) mammary glands of anesthetized mice were exposed andplaced the implants for 12 days. One gland was treated with an adenosine implant, while the contralateral gland received a blank implant as control. For whole-mount preparations, glands were stained with alum carmine, and for histological observation, micro-selected mammary glands were stained with hematoxylin and eosin Y. Implantation with Elvax 40P did not affect on the damage of neighboring mammary tissue. Adenosie 25 or 250$\mu\textrm{g}$ per slow-release implant stimulated local mammary end bud formation of ovariectomized mice such as end bud size and numbers of end bud per gland in a dose dependent manner(P<0.05), and lower concentration of adenosie(2.5 or 25$\mu\textrm{g}$/implant) increased numbers of end bud(P<0.05) and end bud size(P<0.1) of intact mice. Adenosine treatment and intact ovarian function had moderate interation effects on the stimulation of end bud formation at 2.5$\mu\textrm{g}$ adenosine/implant(P<0.1). In histological observation, adenosine implants increased numbers of mammary epithelial type of cells at mammary duct in the presence or absece ofovary. These results indicate that adenosine should be one of regulators in mouse mammary ductal growth.

  • It is essential to consider geometry in the early design stage for rational design decisions. However, a crucial decision had been taken by conversation, physical model, and gesture rather than BIM mode which can analyze geometry efficiently. This research proposes the framework of interaction between BIM model and physical model for real-time BIM analysis. Through this real-time system framework of two models, architects can adopt BIM data at early design stage to review analysis of BIM model. It should facilitate dynamic design based on rich BIM information from an early stage to a final stage.
