Medical Interpreters in Korea: A Qualitative Study of Medical Tourists' Satisfaction and the Role of Interpreters

  • Background: As a result of the South Korean government's medical tourism strategies, the number of UAE inbound medical tourists have the highest annual increase rate among the Middle Eastern countries. The need for medical interpreters in such cases is inevitable, especially considering the languages spoken in both countries differs. The work of a medical interpreter affects patient satisfaction, quality of care, and the UAE patients' revisit intention. However, there is a lack of literature that focuses on the role of medical interpreters for the Arabic-speaking medical tourists in South Korea. The purpose of this study is to assess the satisfaction and the experience of UAE medical tourists in South Korea who have used medical interpretation services. Method: A descriptive exploratory design, including semi-structured interviews, was used in this study to examine factors influencing the satisfaction of UAE patients seeking medical attention in South Korea, who considered travelling exclusively for medical purposes. Eleven UAE medical tourists were selected for the interview using convenience sampling. Results: Two types of interpreters were revealed by the analysis: interpreters with Arabic as their mother tongue and interpreters with Korean as their mother tongue. Patients emphasized the origin of the interpreters and differentiated between the two types of interpreters' professionalism, abilities, and personal skills. However, due to the huge gap between the two cultures, languages, and religions, the UAE patients mainly preferred the Arabic medical interpreters. Further, each type had certain traits that impacted the medical care process and patients' satisfaction. Conclusion: This study shows that the South Korean government needs to focus on the training and assessment system for Arabic language interpreters. Additionally, cultural differences training for the interpreters may help to increase UEA patients' satisfaction.

  • 최근 정보화 사회에서 사이버 정보 보호는 가장 중요한 분야로 대두 되고 있는 가운데 전문적인 정보 보호 인력에 대한 수요는 전 세계적으로 빠르게 증가 하고 있다. 전문적이고 능력 있는 정보 기술 인력의 보유는 정보화 사회에서 향후 경쟁력과 리더십을 얻는데 매우 중요한 이슈이다. 본 연구는 대학에서 정보 보호와 관련한 전공을 선택한 학생들을 중심으로 어떠한 요인들이 그들의 전공선택과 향후 정보보안과 관련한 직업을 선택하게 하는데 영향을 미치는 지를 분석 하였다. 문헌 고찰을 통해 학생들이 전공 선택과 직업선택에 관한 영향을 미칠 수 있는 대표적인 요인들을 도출하고 이 요인들과 학생들의 전공 및 직업선택과의 관계를 실증적으로 검증 하였다. 본 연구의 연구 결과는 향후 우리 사회가 보다 우수하고 전문적인 정보 보호 인력을 양성하고 유지하는 데에 기여 할 수 있을 것이다.

일학습병행제 학위연계형 학습근로자의 조직유효성 인식분석과 만족/불만족요인 실태조사 (An Analysis on Organizational Effectiveness and Survey on the Factors of Satisfaction/Dissatisfaction of Learning Workers' Perception in Degree Apprenticeship)

  • 본 논문은 학위연계형 일학습병행제도의 학습근로자를 대상으로 소속 기업의 조직유효성에 대한 인식을 조사했다. 그 결과 이직의사, 직무성과는 학습근로자가 비교대상인 일반 회사원(근로자)에 비해 높게 나타났으며 조직몰입은 낮게 나타났다. 또한 학습근로자의 학년이 오르고 성적이 높을수록 직무만족이 높아지고 좋은 성적인 학습근로자의 직무소진이 줄어드는 경향을 보였으며 1학년에 비해 2, 3, 4학년이 이직의도가 높게 나타났다. 추가적으로 학습근로자의 만족요인과 불만족요인의 조사 결과 대학의 OFF-JT교육보다 현장의 OJT 관리가 강화되어야 함을 보여준다. 이러한 결과는 일학습병행제에 참여하는 기업이 학습근로자의 역량개발 뿐 아니라 교육지원, 인사관리, OJT 운영 등의 영역에서 지금보다 수준 높은 관리가 필요하며 제도적인 측면에서는 학위연계형의 발전을 위해서 학습시간 및 참여기업의 학습자관리에 대해 보완책이 필요하다는 점을 보여준다.

라이더 재킷의 디자인 특성을 이용한 패션디자인 제안 (A proposal for fashion design using the design characteristics of rider jacket)

  • Rider jackets were once reserved for military uniforms but have become an important styling item in recent fashion trends. The design characteristics of the rider jacket are rooted in symbolism, and the image associated with a rider jacket is in line with the challenging of authority and being a member of the rebellious youth subculture. Usually, young people with anti-social tendencies wore jackets, and some styles were used as a medium to express their emotional homogeneity, and they received favorable responses as the items represented them. The design characteristics of a rider jacket can be largely divided into resistance against the older generation, violence, challenging cultural norms, sexuality, and resistance, as well as embodying violent characteristics, including strength, courage. and male chauvinism. The reason for the development of these challenging characteristics are disparagement and anger of the lower class, who were excluded from mainstream society. Rider jackets can be viewed negatively due to the kind of message it is conveying against mainstream society. Among the sexual features were leather pants, short-length leather rider jackets, glossy metal accessories, and belt buckles, which also highlighted gay and decadent images that came to be associated with the jackets. The drapery created various kinds of wrinkles according to the way of dressing, and it had beautiful expressiveness while serving to express the body more beautifully. Drapery can be classified according to the aesthetic characteristics or expression techniques, and if the type of drapery is classified according to the morphological characteristics, it can be classified into variable and fixed structures, depending on whether the part to which the drapery is applied is fluid or not. In other words, it depends on the dressing method or the intention, and if the drapery technique is directly applied to the garment or is attached to the form. This fashion design proposal may have the greatest significance in that it sought to propose a new style incorporating a drapery technique with a strong feminine image to a rider jacket, which traditionally was associated with a masculine image.

로봇 vs 사람: 종업원의 서비스 성공과 실패가 고객행동의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 비교 연구 (Robot vs Human: Comparative Study on the Effect of Service Success and Failure on Customer Behavioral Intentions of Service Employees)

  • 서비스 현장에서 로봇의 활용이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 서비스 로봇의 종업원으로서의 역할에 주목하여, 로봇의 서비스가 고객행동에 어떠한 영향을 주는지를 서비스 성공과 실패 상황에서 사람 종업원과 비교하여 살펴보았다. 바리스타로봇, 서빙로봇, 쉐프로봇을 대상으로 세 번의 실험을 통해 실증분석을 수행하여 도출된 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 서비스가 성공적인 경우, 사람들은 서비스를 제공한 종업원이 사람인지, 로봇인지에 관계없이 재방문 의도가 유사하게 나타났다. 반면, 서비스가 실패인 상황에서는 로봇 종업원으로부터 서비스를 받은 경우보다 사람 종업원으로부터 서비스를 받은 경우에 재방문 의도가 더 부정적인 것으로 나타났다. 이에 대한 이유는 아직까지 서비스 로봇의 능력에 대한 고객들의 기대가 사람 종업원에 비해 낮기 때문인 것으로 파악되었다. 마지막으로 고객들은 로봇의 서비스가 사람의 서비스에 비해 더 안정적이라고 인식하는 것으로 나타나 서비스 로봇이 성공적인 서비스를 제공한다면 로봇으로부터 서비스를 제공받는 고객으로부터 긍정적인 반응과 행동을 이끌어낼 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

의인화된 챗봇의 자기노출과 감정표현이 사용자 경험에 미치는 영향 - 금융서비스에서의 대화 오류 상황을 중심으로 (Effect of Anthropomorphic Chatbot's Self-disclosure and Emotional Expression on User Experience - Focused on Conversational Error in Financial Service)

  • 금융 서비스에서 적극적으로 활용되고 있는 챗봇은 대화 오류와 기계적인 답변으로 사용자 경험을 저해하고 있다. 이 연구는 의인화된 챗봇의 자기노출과 감정표현이 금융 서비스에서 대화 오류 시 사용자 경험에 미치는 효과를 살펴보았다. 일상적인 금융 서비스 문의 상황에서 자기노출 유형(긍정적 vs. 부정적)과 감정표현 수준(높은 수준의 자신감 vs. 낮은 수준의 자신감)별로 시나리오를 구성해 온라인 실험을 진행하였고, 신뢰, 곤혹도, 서비스 회복만족, 지속 사용의도를 측정하였다. 실험 결과, 의인화된 챗봇의 자기노출과 감정표현에서 신뢰, 곤혹도, 서비스 회복만족, 지속 사용의도에 대해 각각 주효과가 나타났고 신뢰와 곤혹도에서 상호작용 효과가 나타났다. 결론적으로 의인화된 챗봇이 긍정적 자기노출과 자신감 있는 감정표현을 할 때 상대적으로 신뢰가 높아지고 곤혹도가 낮아지는 것을 확인하였다.

신발장착형 보행분석 트래커의 사용자경험 분석 (User Experience Analysis of a Shoe-mounted Gait Analysis Tracker)

  • Gait analysis trackers have been developed to monitor daily gait patterns to improve users' running performance and reduce the risk of injuries. A variety of gait analysis trackers are available on the market(e.g., foot pods, insoles). Depending on the type of gait analysis tracker, users' discomfort or satisfaction as well as required properties may differ. Hence, the purpose of this study was to compare and analyze user experience of three different types of commercial shoe-mounted gait analysis trackers and their mobile applications in a laboratory environment using questionnaires based on actual experiences of each product. Ten males and ten females who regularly enjoy walking and running exercises participated in the experiment. After the participants set up the tracker and application themselves without support from researchers, ten to thirty minutes' exercise was permitted on each product. Following this, the participants answered questionnaires containing evaluation variables on the device and mobile application, as well as satisfaction, intention to use, recommendation, and purchase. In addition, they were asked questions about the attractive features and shortcomings of each device and application. The results showed that the PRO-SPECS® smart insole was preferred over the others for ease of use, perceived durability, psychological burden of the design, and usefulness of the information provided by the application. Along with the results of questionnaire, this study also discussed strategies and recommendations for future product design and development.

  • 「가정폭력범죄의 처벌 등에 관한 특례법」은 아직 법제도 및 시행과정에 여러 문제점들이 존재한다. 법제정의 본래 의도와 다르게 실제 운영에 있어서는 국가의 개입 및 가정폭력 행위자 처벌에 있어서 매우 소극적으로 운영되고 있으며, 가정보호사건으로 처리되는 경우에도 보호처분의 세부내용을 살펴보면 특정 유형의 보호처분에 편중된 보호처분 결정이 내려지고 있는 등 문제점이 있다. 이러한 문제점을 개선하기 위해서는 가정폭력 관련 국가기관간 협력 및 적극적 개입의 필요성이 요구된다. 또한 가정폭력을 신고한 피해자에 대해서 범죄신고자로서 지위를 인정하여 신변보호 요청에 대한 법률적 근거를 마련할 필요가 있다. 그리고 보호처분의 실효성 확보를 위해 보호처분의 불이행이나 위반행위에 대한 제재를 강화할 필요가 있다.

어린이급식소용 밀키트 필요성 및 구매의도에 대한 인식 조사 - 창원 일부 지역의 어린이 급식담당자 대상 - (A Survey of Need and Purchase Intention for Meal Kits - For Children's Foodservice Managers in Changwon Areas -)

  • In this study, a survey was conducted on the development of meal kits for children's foodservice to increase the convenience of the cooking process. It was performed among the foodservice managers in the 141 children's foodservice facilities registered in the Center for Children's Foodservice Management about meal-kits in Changwon areas. The survey results were analyzed according to the children's foodservice scale type. The biggest problem in a foodservice system was "difficult to purchase food ingredients directly every week" (38.4%) in small-scale children's foodservices, and "difficult to use the served menu without modification" (38.2%) in institutional children's foodservices (P<0.001). The most important factor when choosing the meal kit was "quality" (41.1%). Respondents on having an experience with using the meal kit were low at 34.8%, and the reasons for not using the meal kits were "expensive" (67.3%) and "not fresh food ingredients" (18.4%). The main reasons for not using children's foodservice meal kits were "expensiveness" (64.4%) and "necessity of adding disinfection process" (16.1%). Most of the reasons for not wanting to use children's foodservice meal kits were that they did not trust the safety of the meal kits. The use of meal kits in children's foodservices may reduce the preparation process and increase the efficiency of foodservice although the safety and quality of meal kits should be guaranteed. The appropriate hygiene management standards need to be set, and HACCP should be applied to develop meal kits for children's foodservices.

Comparison of Experienced and Inexperienced Consumers' Utilisation of Extrinsic Cues in Product Evaluation: Evidence from the Korean Fine Arts Market

  • This study compares experienced and inexperienced consumers' patterns in cue utilisation in product evaluations in the arts market. Borrowing the notion of high- and low-scope cues introduced by the cue-diagnosticity framework, we differentiate between the two most readily discernible extrinsic cues in the fine arts market - an art gallery's brand reputation (a high-scope cue) and certificates of authenticity (a low-scope cue). These two cues are different in nature; the former is more abstract, intangible, and rich in content, so is more difficult to interpret than the latter. Given the differences in experienced and inexperienced consumers' information processing styles, we hypothesise that experienced arts consumers form perceived credibility of and purchase intentions towards artworks based on high-scope cues, whereas inexperienced consumers do so based on low-scope cues. To test our hypothesis, we conducted a consumer intercept study at Korea's two most representative art fairs. The survey participants were categorised into either experienced or inexperienced consumers based on their prior purchase experience, and their responses to a set of attribute combinations about two artworks created by the same artist were collected. The results indicate that experienced participants show higher purchase intentions when an art gallery's reputation is very high, whereas inexperienced participants show higher purchase intentions when artworks are accompanied by certificates of authenticity. This congruency effect between prior experience and cue type is mediated by the perceived credibility of the artworks. The findings suggest a correspondence between a consumer's prior experience and the types of extrinsic cues that are important in product evaluations. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first attempt ever to investigate the role of prior experience in determining when to use high- or low-scope cues. It also provides a useful frame of reference to advise marketers on the effective sales approach based on a client's prior purchase experience.
