  • This paper proposes single logarithmic amplification (single-LA) and deep learning (DL)-based fixed-threshold on-off keying (OOK) detection for free-space optical (FSO) communication. Multilevel LAs (MLAs) can be used to mitigate intensity fluctuations in the received OOK signal by their nonlinear gain characteristics; however, it is ineffective in the case of high scintillation, owing to degradation of the OOK signal's extinction ratio. Therefore, a DL technique is applied to realize effective scintillation compensation in single-LA applications. Fully connected (FC) networks and fully connected neural networks (FCNN), which have nonlinear modeling characteristics, are deployed in this work. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated through simulations under various scintillation effects. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional adaptive-threshold-decision, single-LA-based, MLA-based, FC-based, and FCNN-based OOK detection techniques.

  • Studies of the distribution of micro-phytoplankton community and chlorophyll a concentration have focused on the vertical profiles of marine environmental factors such as water temperature, salinity, sigma-t, light intensity, and dissolved oxygen in the continental slope on the east parts of East China Sea in the early summer of 2009. Water temperature showed a gradual reduction according to the depth. While the salinity was low in the surface layer showing a mixed down to the relatively subsurface layer, it was increased with an increase in the depth at the middle and bottom layers showing a maximum value at 150~200 m followed by a decreasing aspect afterwards, although the change was not large. The change of sigma-t was governed by the water temperature, and gradually increased in the surface layer with an increase in the depth, showing a value higher than in the surface layer by about 3 $kg/m^3$ at the bottom layer. Although the intensity of light was exponential reduced in the surface layer, the compensation depth was located at the depth of about 80m. The vertical profiles of chlorophyll a concentration was governed by the intensity rather than the changes in water temperature or salinity, exhibiting a maximum value at the compensation depth corresponding to 1% in the surface light intensity. The micro-phytoplankton communities consisted of 56 genera 103 species showing a relatively variety, while the standing crop was also changed to 112.0~470.0 cells/L in the pelagic environment, showing a maximum chlorophyll a concentration. Although a variety of dominant species appear at low dominance without dominant species appearing with a right-wing point in the phytoplankton communities, the silicoflagellate, Otactis otonaris at the station A and the dominance of 26% due to Leptocylindrus mediterraneus at the station C have been judged to be unusual. For community analysis of infinitesimal creatures such as phytoplankton of oligotrophic waters through the present study, ecology studies through vertical sample collection agreeing with the results of continuous observation such as identification of vertical distribution in a marine environment or of maximum chlorophyll layers have been considered rather than a survey method with intervals of a given depth such as surface, subsurface, middle and bottom layers.

  • Effects of light intensity and temperature on photosynthesis and respiration of autogenous wild SUMBODY plants, Dystaenia takesimana, known as a prospective source of forage in Ulleung island, Korea, were investigated. Results were as follows : 1. Light saturation point at $20^{\circ}C$ was 34 to 38 klux and light compensation point was 4 to 6 klux. Apparent photosynthetic rate at light saturation was 9 to 12 mg $CO_2/dm^2/hr$. 2. Optimum temperature for photosynthesis was $20^{\circ}C$ and $Q_{10}$ values of two temperature ranges, 20 to $30^{\circ}C$ and 30 to $40^{\circ}C$, were 0.8 and 0.9 for photosynthesis, while $Q_{10}$ for respiration were 1.6 and 1.7. 3. Native plants sampled in area of higher altitude had a higher apparent photosynthtic rate at lower temperature and the plants sampled in area of mixed with bushes had lower a light compensation point. These rusults suggest that the Inland weather condition of Korea during spring and fall seasons might be. suitable for the SUMBODY growth but inadequate during summer.

  • We have investigated the surface characteristics of n-GaAs (100) treated with Ar plasma (40 W, 5~120 sec) by photoreflectance (PR) measurement. With increasing Ar plasma treatment time, the intensity of $E_0$ peak observed to the minimum at 5 sec. The surface electric field ($E_0$), net carrier concentration ($N_P-N_A$), and surface state density ($Q_{SS}$ are $1.05{\times}10^5V/cm$ and $1.31{\tiems}10^{17}cm^{-3}$ and $1.64{\times}10^{-7}C/m^2$, respectively. These values were about 57.1, 81.4 and 56.9% smaller than those of bulk n-GaAs. On the other hand, the concentration of compensation centers ($N_A$) was maximum with value of $5.75{\times}10^{17}cm^{-3}$ at 5 sec. And penetration depth of defects generated after treated with Ar plasma was about 450 $\AA$ from surface.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to attempt to incorporate power theory to evaluate information capability of SCM adopters. Therefore, this study focuses on the relationship of information sharing, partnership quality, and information capacity according to the power intensity of the variables of SCM. and CSV value creation. Design/methodology/approach The questionnaire of SCM builder was conducted and 302 samples were analyzed. Based on the theoretical background of power and information capacity, we set up a structural equation model. Hypothesis testing and statistical analysis were done through AMOS and SPSS. Findings First, it shows that the compensation power among the constrained power has a positive effect on the partnership quality, and the legitimacy power has the positive influence only on the information sharing. Compulsive power, compensation, and legitimacy, which are generally restrictive powers, may reduce the quality of information sharing and partnership, but the results of this study are rather higher. Second, both non-binding power expertise and criterion have a positive effect on information sharing and partnership quality. Third, information sharing has a positive effect on partnership quality. Supporting a number of research results, it is well reflected in SCM attributes where interdependence is important. Fourth, information sharing and partnership quality have a positive effect on information capacity. Information literacy has become an essential element in modern management. Fifth, the enhancement of CSV value creation plays a role of a controlling variable to further strengthen information sharing through non - binding power attribute, expertise and conformity. In addition, the strengthening of CSV value creation has been shown to play a role as a controlling variable to further strengthen the quality of partnership through the non-binding power attribution, but expertise has been rejected.

  • In this paper, we propose an object detection method for real-time in infrared (IR) images and PowerPC (PPC) and H/W design based on field programmable gate array (FPGA). An open H/W architecture has the advantages, such as easy transplantation of HW and S/W, support of compatibility and scalability for specification of current and previous versions, common module design using standardized design, and convenience of management and maintenance. Proposed background modeling for an open H/W architecture design decreases size of search area to construct a sparse block template of search area in IR images. We also apply to compensate for motion compensation when image moves in previous and current frames of IR sensor. Separation method of background and objects apply to adaptive values through time analysis of pixel intensity. Method of clutter reduction to appear near separated objects applies to median filter. Methods of background modeling, object detection, median filter, labeling, merge in the design embedded system execute in PFC processor. Based on experimental results, proposed method showed real-time object detection through global motion compensation and background modeling in the proposed embedded system.

  • In this paper, we describe the thermal characteristics of the output voltages of ethanol gas sensor according to the amount of radiation incident on the infrared sensors located at each focal point of two elliptical waveguides. In order to verify the output characteristics of the gas sensor according to the amount of incident light on the infrared sensor, two combinations of sensor modules were fabricated. Hydrophobic thin film is deposited on one of the reflectors of sensor modules and one of the two infrared sensors was equipped with a hollow disk (10 Ø), and the temperature characteristics of the infrared sensor equipped with the hollow disk (10 Ø) and the infrared sensor without the disk were tested. The temperature was varied from 253 K to 333 K at 10 K intervals based on 298 K. The properties of ethanol gas sensor have been identified with respect to varying temperature for a range of ethanol concentration from 0 ppm to 500 ppm. In the case of an infrared sensor equipped with a hollow disk (10 Ø), the output voltage of the sensor decreased by 0.8 mV and 1 mV, respectively, as the temperature increased. Conversely, the output voltage of the diskless infrared sensor showed an average increase of 67 mV and 57 mV as the temperature increased. The ethanol concentrations estimated on the basis of results show an error of more than 10 % for less than 100 ppm concentration. However, if the ethanol concentration exceeds 100 ppm, the gas concentration can be estimated within the range of ${\pm}10%$.

  • Nonlinear distortion introduced by the optical transmitter using a direct modulation of laser diode(LD) and an indirect modulation of optical modulator can limit considerably the performance of analog optical link system such as subcarrier multiplexing system. In this paper, we have compensated the nonlinear distortion of LD and optical modulator using electrical predistorter. In the case of LD, two-tone experiments using 877.5 MHz and 882.5 MHz have shown reduction of 19 dB in third-order intermodulation product(IMP$_3$). And in the case of optical modulator, we have achieved nearly 21 dB reduction in IMP3 through two-tone experiments using 1.8975 GHz and 1.9025 GHz. The spurious free dynamic ranges of LD and optical modulator are also improved by 5 dB/Hz$^{2}$ 3/ and 7 dB/Hz$^{2}$ 3/, respectively.

  • Purpose: This study attempted to examine the risk of stock price plunge according to the firm's management strategy. Prospector firms value innovation and have high uncertainties due to rapid growth. There is a possibility of lowering the quality of financial reporting in order to meet market expectations while withstanding the uncertainty of the results. In addition, managers of prospector firms enter into compensation contracts based on stock prices, thus creating an incentive to withhold negative information disclosure to the market. Prospector firms' information opacity and delays in disclosure of negative information are likely to cause a sharp decline in share prices in the future. Research design, data and methodology: This study performed logistic analysis of KOSPI listed firms from 2014 to 2017. The independent variable is the strategic index, and is calculated by considering the six characteristics (R&D investment, efficiency, growth potential, marketing, organizational stability, capital intensity) of the firm. The higher the total score, the more it is a firm that takes a prospector strategy, and the lower the total score, the more it is a firm that pursues a defender strategy. In the case of the dependent variable, a value of 1 was assigned when there was a week that experienced a sharp decline in stock prices, and 0 when it was not. Results: It was found that the more firms adopting the prospector strategy, the higher the risk of a sharp decline in the stock price. This is interpreted as the reason that firms pursuing a prospector strategy do not disclose negative information by being conscious of market investors while carrying out venture projects. In other words, compensation contracts based on uncertainty in the outcome of prospector firms and stock prices increase the opacity of information and are likely to cause a sharp decline in share prices. Conclusions: This study's analysis of the impact of management strategy on the stock price plunge suggests that investors need to consider the strategy that firms take in allocating resources. Firms need to be cautious in examining the impact of a particular strategy on the capital markets and implementing that strategy.

  • A suitability analysis for marine afforestation was carried out on physical items based on slop rate, bottom sediment, light intensity, velocity, and wave at north Geomoon waters in Korea. The data from each physical item were changed to a GSDM (Gridded Spatial Distribution Map) using Kriging interpolation. A GSDM grid includes information, and each grid was given a SI (suitability index) of 3 grades(SI of first suitability was 100, SI of second suitability was 50, and non-suitability had no SI). According to the analysis results of all overlaid GSDM, first suitability had 500 SI, and suitability area was 0.25ha. Second and third suitability had 400~450 SI, and suitability area was 2.36ha, 1.80ha, respectively. Therefore, the results suggest that reefs installed for marine afforestation should be anti-slip types against steep slope, and the target species need to include algae with low compensation light intensity in second and third suitability.
