The comparative effectiveness and evaluation study of user groups of the various web search tools (다양한 형태의 웹 탐색도구의 이용자집단간 비교효용성 및 평가에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is offering appropriate system and training program to helf the system designer and the trainer in addition to analyze information use behavior about the web search tools and evaluate the estimated system by user groups. The results of the study are as follows $\circledS1$ It is desirable to consider age than other demographic variables in the case of web search tool. $\circledS2$ It is desirable to design Directory Search Tool in the case of web search tool which serves the student user group. $\circledS3$ An Intelligent Search Tool is more appropriate for the students who are using keyword search tool than any other tools. $\circledS4$ A discussion about standard classification of the web information should be accomplished soon because users feel confused in using web search tools due t o absence of standard mode of classification about classified item. $\circledS5$ Librarians need the cognition about data on internet s a source of information and need positive service and user training program about these information because student users hardly get help from librarians or library orientation for learning method to use web search tool. $\circledS6$ Internet use experience and years of computer use had effect on their use ability when using web search tool, whereas computer use experience, library use experience and Online Public Access Catalogs (OPAC) use experience had no effect on it. Especially, OPAC use experience had no effect on use ability of web search tool of student user group because student user groups had no information about internet and web search tool and they did not recognized the difference about search method between web search tool and OPAC. $\circledS7$In the case of web search tool, it si important to index the increasing web resource automatically by a searching robot. But in the case of student users, web search tool is much more needed to index by index expert due to the absence of ability about selecting and combining keyword.

Knowledge Transfer Using User-Generated Data within Real-Time Cloud Services

  • When automatic speech recognition (ASR) is provided as a cloud service, it is easy to collect voice and application domain data from users. Harnessing these data will facilitate the provision of more personalized services. In this paper, we demonstrate our transfer learning-based knowledge service that built with the user-generated data collected through our novel system that deliveries personalized ASR service. First, we discuss the motivation, challenges, and prospects of building up such a knowledge-based service-oriented system. Second, we present a Quadruple Transfer Learning (QTL) method that can learn a classification model from a source domain and transfer it to a target domain. Third, we provide an overview architecture of our novel system that collects voice data from mobile users, labels the data via crowdsourcing, utilises these collected user-generated data to train different machine learning models, and delivers the personalised real-time cloud services. Finally, we use the E-Book data collected from our system to train classification models and apply them in the smart TV domain, and the experimental results show that our QTL method is effective in two classification tasks, which confirms that the knowledge transfer provides a value-added service for the upper-layer mobile applications in different domains.

  • Taxonomy of human brain activity is a complicated rather challenging procedure. Due to its multifaceted aspects, including experiment design, stimuli selection and presentation of images other than feature extraction and selection techniques, foster its challenging nature. Although, researchers have focused various methods to create taxonomy of human brain activity, however use of multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA) for image recognition to catalog the human brain activities is scarce. Moreover, experiment design is a complex procedure and selection of image type, color and order is challenging too. Thus, this research bridge the gap by using MVPA to create taxonomy of human brain activity for different categories of images, both colored and gray scale. In this regard, experiment is conducted through EEG testing technique, with feature extraction, selection and classification approaches to collect data from prequalified criteria of 25 graduates of University Technology PETRONAS (UTP). These participants are shown both colored and gray scale images to record accuracy and reaction time. The results showed that colored images produces better end result in terms of accuracy and response time using wavelet transform, t-test and support vector machine. This research resulted that MVPA is a better approach for the analysis of EEG data as more useful information can be extracted from the brain using colored images. This research discusses a detail behavior of human brain based on the color and gray scale images for the specific and unique task. This research contributes to further improve the decoding of human brain with increased accuracy. Besides, such experiment settings can be implemented and contribute to other areas of medical, military, business, lie detection and many others.

Development of Korean-Sign Language Generating System based on Motion-Primitives (Motion-Primitives에 의한 한국수화 생성시스템의 개발)

  • We have developed the sign-language synthesis system, which can be applied for intelligent terminal equipments, for the purpose of communications between normal people and the hearing-impaired. In the system, we generate the behavior of the sign-language words using CG animation based on Motion-Primitives of the motion observed of each legion of the body in the generation of words, the conventional system was difficult to control the shape of hands and the motions of hands and shoulder, requiring lots of time for the processing. Also it is a big problem to make a large database of sign-language, because it requires over 5,000 words to translate the sign-language. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the new system that is easy to construct the database by using Motion-Primitives, which can make paths of various motions more smooth than conventional systems. We have tested 100 words of the sign-language against the hearing-impaired with the proposed system. As the result of testing by the proposed system, we have earned a good recognition rate with 82%. On the other hand, we had earned the recognition ratio with 76% by using the former system.

GEDA: New Knowledge Base of Gene Expression in Drug Addiction

  • Abuse of drugs can elicit compulsive drug seeking behaviors upon repeated administration, and ultimately leads to the phenomenon of addiction. We developed a procedure for the standardization of microarray gene expression data of rat brain in drug addiction and stored them in a single integrated database system, focusing on more effective data processing and interpretation. Another characteristic of the present database is that it has a systematic flexibility for statistical analysis and linking with other databases. Basically, we adopt an intelligent SQL querying system, as the foundation of our DB, in order to set up an interactive module which can automatically read the raw gene expression data in the standardized format. We maximize the usability of this DB, helping users study significant gene expression and identify biological function of the genes through integrated up-to-date gene information such as GO annotation and metabolic pathway. For collecting the latest information of selected gene from the database, we also set up the local BLAST search engine and non-redundant sequence database updated by NCBI server on a daily basis. We find that the present database is a useful query interface and data-mining tool, specifically for finding out the genes related to drug addiction. We apply this system to the identification and characterization of methamphetamine-induced genes' behavior in rat brain.

  • In recent years, artificial intelligence using big data has become a big issue in IT. Various studies are being conducted on services or technologies to effectively handle big data. The educational field, there is big data about students, but it is only a simple process to collect, lookup and store such data. In the future, it makes extensive use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and statistical analysis to find meaningful rules, patterns, and relationships in the big data of the educational field, and to produce intelligent and useful data for the actual students. Accordingly, this study aims to design a program to predict the career of students using a decision tree algorithm based on the data from the student's classroom observations. Through a career prediction program, it is believed to be helpful to present application paths to students ' counseling and to also provide classroom behavior and direction based on the desired courses.

Interrelationship between Kimchi Ripening and CO2 Concentration of the Headspace in Flexible Packages Included with CO2 Absorber (CO2 흡수제 함유 김치포장에서 CO2 농도와 제품 숙성도의 상호관련성)

  • CO2 concentration in kimchi package has emerged recently as a potential index of product ripening to be monitored or sensed in intelligent packaging. Considering that addition of CO2 absorber into the flexible kimchi package changes behavior of its CO2 concentration, ripening of kimchi in total acidity, package CO2 concentration in partial pressure (PCO2) and package volume at 10℃ were estimated by mathematical model for two size packages included with different CO2 absorbers. In small size package containing 0.5 kg of kimchi, relatively less gas permeable low density polyethylene (LDPE) sachet of the absorber was found to give rise of PCO2 linearly correlated with acidity at acceptable conditions of absorber amount and size. The levels of PCO2 at optimum ripening were different with absorber amount. However, highly gas permeable microporous spunbonded film (Tyvek) sachet did not show the linear relationship except a condition of 1.5 g of CO2 absorbent. In large size package containing 2.0 kg, absorber sachets of LDPE and Tyvek could give the linear relationship between product acidity and package PCO2 but at different levels (PCO2 of package with LDPE sachet: 0.46~0.79 bar, PCO2 of package with Tyvek sachet: 0.00~0.75 bar). The PCO2 at optimal ripening was found to be less variable with LDPE sachets than with Tyvek ones. Use of package CO2 concentration as an indicator of kimchi ripening was shown to be possible on the limited conditions where the linear relationship between them is established or confirmed.

Design and Implementation of the Perception Mechanism for the Agent in the Virtual World (가상 세계 거주자의 지각 메커니즘 설계 및 구현)

  • In order to create an intelligent autonomous agent in virtual world, we need a sophisticated design for perception, recognition, judgement and behavior. We develop the perception and recognition functions for such an autonomous agent. Our perception mechanism identifies lines based on differences in color, the primitive visible data, and exploits those lines to grasp shapes and regions in the scene. We develop an inferencing algorithm that can infer the original shape from a damaged or partially hidden shape using its characteristics from the ontology in order to intelligently recognize the perceived shape. Several individually recognized 2D shapes and their spatial relations form 3D shapes and those 3D shapes in turn constitute a scene. Each 3D shape occupies its respective region, and an agent analyzes the associated objects and relevant scenes to recognize things and phenomena. We also develop a mechanism by which an agent uses this recognition function to accumulate and use her knowledge on the scene in the historical context. We implement these functions presented above against an example situation to demonstrate their sophistication and realism.

A Fusion Context-Aware Model based on Hybrid Sensing for Recommendation Smart Service (지능형 스마트 서비스를 위한 하이브리드 센싱 기반의 퓨전 상황인지 모델)

  • Variety of smart devices including smart phone have become and essential item in user's daily life. This means that smart devices are good mediators to get collecting user's behavior by sensors mounted on the devices. The information from smart devices is important clues to identify by analyzing the user's preferences and needs. Through this, the intelligent service which is fitted to the user is possible. This paper propose a smart service recommendation model based on user scenario using fusion context-awareness. The information for recommendation services is collected to make the scenario depending on time, location, action based on the Fusion process. The scenarios can help predict a user's situation and provide the services in advance. Also, content categories as well as the content types are determined depending on the scenario. The scenario is a method for providing the best service as well as a basis for the user's situation. Using this method, proposing a smart service model with the fusion context-awareness based on the hybrid sensing is the goal of this paper.

  • In this paper, the VR(Virtual Reality) simulation system is developed to analyze driver's perceptive response on the ASV(Advanced Safety Vehicle). The ASV is the vehicle of next generation equipped with various warning systems. For the purpose, the VR simulation system consists of VR database, vehicle dynamic model, graphic/sound system, and driving system. The VR database which generates 3D graphic and sound information is organized for the driving reality. Mathematical models of vehicle dynamic analysis are constructed to represent the dynamic behavior of a vehicle. The driving system and the graphic/sound system provide a driver with the operation of a vehicle and the feedback of a driving situation. Also, the real-time simulation algorithm synchronizes the vehicle dynamic model with the VR database. To check the validity of the developed system, a simple scenario is applied to investigate driver's perceptive response time and vehicle acceleration on an emergency situation. It is confirmed that the proposed system is useful and helpful to design the FVCWS(Forward Vehicle Collision Warning System).
