  • The purpose of this study is to determine the working conditions and demands of the assistant workforce at childcare centers, and to provide suggestions on policies for childcare teachers. To achieve the purpose of the study, a total of 190 assistant teachers, nursing helpers, alternative teachers and others were surveyed online during the month of August 2017. The survey examined the employment route and working motives, working conditions and environment, job and educational difficulties for analyzing the work conditions and demands of ancillary staff. For the analysis method, SPSS 12.0 was used to analyze frequency and difference. The main findings are as follows. First, childcare center assistants were able to work at their respective times, making it mandatory for them to enter the workforce, and making job openings for ancillary teachers. Second, 73.7% said the daily working hours were '4 hours to 8 hours' under the conditions and 57.9% said 'More than 510,000 won to less than 1 million won.' Average amount of rest time per day was about 30 minutes, and 17% had no rest periods. Third, based on the job and education status, ancillary personnel performed "infant and child guidance and interaction", "Cleaning and cleanliness related tasks" most actively, and "care for cleaning and cleanliness" and "care for morning and night care". Fourth, in the job trouble and difficulty, ancillary staff found it difficult to satisfy with wage related complaints and job insecurity, and the reason for agreeing to the non-regular workforce becoming a regular worker was found to be due to the stability of employment. Lastly, the most urgent tasks to solve the problem of non-regular workers were to fill the wage gap between regular and irregular workers, shorten the working hours and improve the working conditions. The policy implications are presented based on the above findings.

  • The aim of this study was to reduce the number of negligent accidents by improving the fire safety consciousness of infant and child teachers working in a day care center. For this purpose, 242 early childhood teachers working in the national nursery school in Daejeon and Chungcheongnam-do were surveyed. For the survey, the questionnaire consisted of job satisfaction, teacher's efficacy, and fire safety consciousness. The survey data were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 win program. The factor of job satisfaction and teacher's efficacy had a significant positive influence on the fire safety consciousness of the early childhood teachers (<.05). The teacher's efficacy was found to mediate the relationship between the job satisfaction and fire safety consciousness. In conclusion, this study suggests that teacher's fire safety consciousness is high when the teacher's job satisfaction and efficacy are high. This study is expected to contribute to basic research to increase the teachers' consciousness of fire safety.

  • This study aims to identify the effects of job factors related to children's teachers on job satisfaction and present suggestions through an analysis of the modulating effects according to the type of institute. In order to achieve this purpose, this study set up a cause and effect model on teacher's efficacy, emotional intelligence, friendship, and a reward system as factors of job satisfaction and analysed them based on interviews using a questionnaire. To look into the results of the analysis, it was discovered that a reward system had the greatest effect on job satisfaction for the subjects, followed by emotional intelligence, friendship, and teacher's efficacy. In an analysis of modulating effects according to the type of institute, the effect of emotional intelligence differed significantly depending on kindergartens and day care centers. Teacher's efficacy, friendship and a reward system were not significantly different. • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the experiences of foreign students in childcare practicum, with a specific focus on identifying the difficulties they encountered and the values they derived from their practicum experiences. The aim was to gain insights that can contribute to improving practicum support for these students. Methods: A total of 6 foreign students were selected as participants for this study using snowball sampling. The data collection period spanned from May 2021 to March 2023, during which semi-structured interviews were conducted and qualitatively analyzed. Results: Foreign students faced challenges in securing practicum placements prior to the start of their program. Communication difficulties necessitated the use of interpreters to interact with children. Additionally, documenting information in a language other than their mother tongue posed a challenge. Consequently, there was a need for tailored training support to address the specific needs of foreign students in childcare practicum. Despite these challenges, the students reported rewarding and valuable experiences during their practicum. These experiences included discovering the teaching identity in Korea, learning about desirable practices in the field, recognizing and addressing personal shortcomings, and developing a sense of vocation for the advancement of infant education in their home countries. Conclusion/Implications: If we actively listen to and provide appropriate support for the specific needs of foreign students in their childcare practicum, they have the potential to become excellent childcare teachers who can foster a harmonious and inclusive environment within our multicultural society.

  • This study analyzes the development process of national childcare curriculum, the goal and contents of the 3rd Standard Childcare Curriculum for Childcare Center in order to suggest the successful way to improve the 3rd Standard Childcare Curriculum. After its establishment in 2007, significant changes had been made to the Standard Childcare Curriculum in order to improve the quality of childcare: Nuri Curriculum for age 5 in 2011, second revision of Standard Childcare Curriculum in 2012, creation of Nuri Curriculum for age 3-4, revision of Nuri Curriculum for age 5, and third Standard Childcare Curriculum in 2013. The third Standard Childcare Curriculum is specified as infants age 0-1, age 2, and age 3-5(Nuri Curriculum). For a successful settlement of the 3rd Standard Childcare Curriculum, first, we need in depth analysis of the Nuri Curriculum by age classification. Second, there should be an effort to link the Standard Childcare Curriculum with elementary school education in practical manner. Further, we need to solve the payroll gap problem between teachers in charge of Nuri Curriculum and infant classes. Finally, teachers should be given more respect, and equivalent teaching qualification standard should be made between childcare and early childhood education.
