  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate breastfeeding effectiveness scale to measure effectiveness of breastfeeding for mothers in the early postpartum period. Methods: A conceptual framework was constructed from properties of effective breastfeeding (Yang and Seo, 2011), and item construction was derived from literature review and analysis of the data along with interviews with breastfeeding mothers. Content validity was tested by experts. Each item was scored on a five-point Likert scale. The preliminary questionnaire was administered to 248 breastfeeding mothers. Data were analyzed using item analysis, factor analysis, Pearson correlation coefficients, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$. Results: From the factor analysis, 20 items in seven factors were derived. The factors were identified as mother's satisfaction, suckling, assurance of milk quantity, infant's satisfaction, latching on, infant's feeding desire, and breastfeeding positioning. The seven factors explained 65.1% of total variance, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ of the total items was .83 and the factors ranged from .44 to .75. Conclusion: Results of this study suggest that breastfeeding effectiveness scale is a reliable and valid instrument to measure breastfeeding effectiveness of mothers in the early postpartum period.

  • This study presented the role of the counselor's transitional object through literature research, focusing on Winnicott's theory. In the process of development, infants experience anxiety when they move from absolute dependence to relative dependence with their mother. In this way, the counselor's role as an transitional object buffers separation anxiety and depressive anxiety about the loss experience, and mediates from the omnipotent fantasy to the real world. transitional objects are new objects and have a function of contributing to adaptation in reality. And it leads to the stage of separation and individualization through transitional object and transitional phenomena. It can be said that he acquires a sense of the real other that exists in order to create and destroy omnipotent, and to adapt to reality. A good enough mother makes the child's omnipotence meaningful. In this case, the true self helps the infant's weak self to grow and lead him to live his own life. When the mother fails to satisfy the infant's needs, her fantasies and spontaneous impulses are lacking. In other words, when the mother fails to reflect the infant's needs, the infant looks at her mother's mood, giving up her true self and creating a false self. The pathology of the absolute dependence phase is caused by the failure of a good enough mother's empathy and nurturing environment. At this time, the child experiences the collapse of the omnipotence illusion and experiences annihilation anxiety. Therefore, effective counseling can be carried out when providing a comfortable and stable environment by reducing separation anxiety and depressive anxiety of clients through the role of the counselor's transitional object in the counseling field.

  • Bifidobacterium spp. exhibits the highest number of counts among species of microflora in breast-feeding infant intestines and has been used as probiotics. From infant groups with different diets, 42 Bifidobacterial strains were isolated by selective plate, Gram-staining, and morphology using method of Mitsuoka, among which seven isolates were identified as Bifidobacterium spp. by F6PPK test, MIDI, and PCR. B. bifidum PBH-30, selected for development of probiotics, showed high resistance against low pH and oxgall treatment, and inhibition against pathogens such as Salmonella typhimurium and Staphylococcus aureus. B. bifidum PBH-30 could be applicable to dairy products as probiotic strains due to its excellent growth in raw milk.

  • This study compared parents' and teachers' feeding practices with young children. Parents and teachers of children aged 0-3 years were recruited at 24 child care centers to complete surveys regarding their demographic characteristics, parenting styles, and feeding practices with young children. Respondents included 106 parents and 102 teachers. Participants' feeding beliefs and values were found to be related to their parenting style classifications (i.e., Authoritative, Authoritarian, or Permissive), ethnicity, income, and other demographic characteristics. Findings indicate the need for teachers and parents to begin communicating about their longterm goals for a child's development as soon as the child enters care. Understanding the goals and variation of feeding practices used at home and at school can help teachers and parents begin to construct a shared vision for care.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify factors that affect the language development of infants. For the analysis, data of three years from the first year (2008) to the third year (2010) of the 'Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC)' were constructed and panel analysis was conducted. The subjects were 2,150 infants who participated in the questionnaire, and the language development of the infants was measured using the communication scores of the K-ASQ test provided by the Korean children's panel. In addition, the factors influencing the language development of infants derived from previous studies were introduced into the model. As a result of the analysis, it is shown that the fixed effect model with fixed individual error of the panel is suitable through the Hausman test. The higher the cognitive development level of the infant, the more positive parenting behavior of the infant, respectively. The conclusions and suggestions about the characteristics of the parents and the parents affecting language development were introduced.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of physical activity using visual stimulation smart devices on the athletic performance and attention - The conclusion is as follows. The physical activity using visual stimulation smart device was applied to the infant. The pre - and post - experiment results showed that the infants of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group. Specifically, the ability of the infant to participate in physical activity using the visual stimulation smart device was improved by sit-up bending and centering ability. Also, physical activity using visual stimulation smart device helped to improve attention of infants. In other words, it was confirmed that information and communication technology (ICT) and physical activity affect both physical and cognitive development of infants. Therefore, in order to improve the athletic ability and concentration of children more effectively, it is possible to maximize the educational effect by teaching the contents using various contents that can motivate the infant rather than the same teaching method.

  • The emergence of smartphones is creating a faster and easier digital communication society along with the existing Internet. Among the various methods of communication, the smart notification is most often used in early childhood education institutions for information exchange between parents, teachers and directors. And the notification helps parents understand the development status and curriculum of infants more easily. Therefore, this paper developed an integrated infant management system based on a web-based platform and a mobile app platform for exchanging various information on infants management between directors, teachers and parents. Through the established system, the director, teachers, and parents can check the information they need at any time, and it is possible to provide a mobile service environment where multiple guardians can safely take care of one infant. In addition, multiple guardians can provide appropriate feedback information through the collection and analysis of various data by using the infant and toddler integrated management system. In the future, if the functions provided based on the smartphone app are configured according to the user, it is expected that it will be able to expand from daycare centers to educational institutions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors associated with suspicious developmental delay in infants and early childhood. Methods: Participants were 133 infants, aged from birth to 6 years old and their mothers, who were being seen at 16 Public health centers in B city. Korean Denver II was used to test infant development. ${\chi}^2$-test, Fisher's exact test and multiple logistic regression were used with SPSS 19.0 to analyze data. Results: Of participant infants, 7.5% were below the 3rd percentile for the weight percentile, 8.4% is a weight curve that crosses more than 2 percentile lines on the growth charts after previous achievement, and 9.8% had suspicious developmental delay according to Korean Denver II. Further the predictive factors related to suspicious development delay in the children were decrease of weight percentile (Odds Ratio [OR]=6.69, Confidence Interval [CI])=1.22-36.45), low economic state (OR=6.26, CI=1.50-26.00), and development delay perceived by their mothers (OR=4.99, CI=1.24-20.06). Conclusion: It is necessary to build a government level system to follow management of development of infants and children from the time of birth. Especially, it is necessary to develop a program for children in low income families.
