Objective: The main purpose of this study was to examine the direct and indirect effects of parent-adolescent communication (through adolescent optimism) on adolescent conflict-coping styles. Methods: A total of 337 high school students participated in this study. They completed questionnaires about communications with their parents and their own optimism and conflict-coping styles. Data were analyzed using t-tests, correlations, and SEM. Results: Neither father- nor mother-adolescent communication had direct effects on adolescent conflict-coping styles. However, mother-adolescent communication had an indirect effect on conflict-coping styles, mediated by adolescent optimism. Adolescents who had open communication with mothers displayed higher levels of optimism, which led to more positive conflict-coping styles. In addition, multigroup analyses revealed that there were significant gender differences in direct and indirect effects. For boys, mother-adolescent communication directly influenced adolescent conflict-coping styles; however, father-adolescent communication did not directly or indirectly affect adolescent conflict-coping styles. For girls, neither father- nor mother-adolescent communication had direct effects on conflict-coping styles; only optimism had a significant effect on conflict-coping styles. Conclusion: The findings from this study suggest that communication with mothers and fathers have different effects on adolescents' conflict-coping styles. These findings have implications for future research and practice by emphasizing the importance of parent-adolescent communication and optimism in designing conflict-coping programs for adolescents.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of family of origin experiences on self-esteem and marital conflict among married men and women. For this purpose, a survey was conducted using self-administered questionnaires with 311 married men and women. The results of the study were as follows: First, men and women's family of origin experience(family of origin health, parents' marital conflict, triangulation) were correlated with self-esteem and marital conflict. Second, results of multiple regression analyses showed that men and women's self-esteem was most powerful predictors of marital conflict. Finally, men's family of origin experiences(family of origin health, parents' marital conflict, triangulation) had a direct effect on marital conflict, and family of origin health had a indirect effect through men's self-esteem on marital conflict. Women's parents' marital conflict, triangulation had a direct effect on marital conflict, and family of origin health had a indirect effect through women's self-esteem on marital conflict.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the structural relationships of child negative emotionality, mother rejective parenting, teacher-child conflict, and child emotion regulation on child aggression. Methods: The participants in this study were 3- to 5-year-old kindergarten children, their mothers, and their teachers (all of whom lived in Busan). The data were analyzed using PASW Statistics 18.0 and AMOS 21.0. For data analysis, frequency, Cronbach's alphas, Pearson's correlation coefficients, SEM were used. Results: First, mother rejective parenting had an indirect effect on child aggression through child emotion regulation. Second, teacher-child conflict had a direct effect on child aggression and had an indirect effect on child aggression through child emotion regulation. Third, child negative emotionality had an indirect effect on child aggression through mother rejective parenting and teacher-child conflict and child emotion regulation. Conclusion: These finding suggest the importance of mediating effect of mother rejective parenting, teacher-child conflict and child emotion regulation between child negative emotionality and aggression.

The conflict management of forest recreation, especially conflict management between hikers and MTB users, has drawn much attention as one of major issues in forest policy making. The main purpose of this study was to investigate hikers' conflict perception against MTB users and their attitudes toward the necessity of conflict management actions, and to identify factors influencing those attitudes. The research data were collected through online surveys of 644 men and women hikers who are aged 20 or older and not participating in MTB riding. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the levels of goal interference and social value conflicts against MTB users were not so high, but rather, the awareness level of compatibility was much higher than that of conflict, and hikers' awareness level of safety risks posed by MTB users was also considerably high. Second, hikers' attitudes toward the necessity of conflict management actions were generally shown to be considerably positive, but those attitudes toward indirect management actions such as information, education, and compliance with norms of conduct, were significantly positive than those attitudes toward direct management measures such as zoning, enforcement, and regulations. Finally, the results of the multiple regression analysis showed that four factors that most significantly affect hikers' attitudes toward direct or indirect conflict management actions are behavioral norms conflict, safety risk, compatibility and age. Safety risks had most important influence on hikers' attitudes toward the direct management actions, but behavioral norms conflicts had most important influence on indirect management actions.
Both direct and indirect courses are studied in this research to study the effect of fathers' daily stress, child-rearing involvement and marital conflict on children's emotional intelligence. The participants were 281 parents of children aged between 3 to 5 attending 9 kindergartens in Seoul and the Gyeonggi-do, Jeolla-do, and Gyeongsang-do areas. The data was collected by the questionnaire method. Collected data for the study was analyzed using the Structural Equation Model with the AMOS 16.0 program. The main points of this research are as follows: First, the direct course of fathers' daily stress did not appear to have a significant effect on children's emotional intelligence. Second, fathers' daily stress has an indirect effect on children's emotional intelligence through marital conflict. That is, the higher level of stress in the father's daily life, the deeper marital conflict that is found. And the deeper the marital conflict that exists, the lower child's emotional intelligence that is shown. Third, the direct course of the fathers' child-rearing involvement did not appear to have a significant effect on children's emotional intelligence. Fourth, the father's child-rearing involvement has an indirect effect on children's emotional intelligence through marital conflict. That is, marital conflict decreases as the father becomes more involved in child rearing. In addition, the lower level of marital conflict that exists, the higher child's emotional intelligence.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between work-family conflict and job-life satisfaction of married female workers. Two data sets were used in this study. Both data sets were gathered from structured questionnaires and time dairies. The first data set was collected from 370 married female production workers in 1995 and the second set was collected from 143 married female clerical workers in 1996. Job and life satisfaction were measured on 5-point Likert scale where 5= very unsatisfied and 5= very satisfied. The overact means for both groups were 2.97, 3.09 for job and life satisfaction respectively The findings of this study are; 1) Clerical workers have significantely higher job and life satisfaction than production workers. 2) Multivariate analysis reveal that work-family conflict is negatively related to job satisfaction while income is positively related to job satisfaction. 3) In the path analysis model, work-family conflict has a negative direct effect and indirect negative effect mediated through job satisfaction on life satisfaction. Job satisfaction and husband's division of housework have a positive direct effect on life satisfaction. However, total labor time has a negative indirect effect mediated through work-family conflict on life satisfaction and income huts a positive indirect effect mediated through job satisfaction on life satisfaction.
This study investigated both the direct and indirect influences of marital conflict on child abuse by exploring the pathways between marital conflict, maternal anger, and child maltreatment. A total of 344 mothers with 3-year-old children responded to questionnaires, which including items on marital conflict/violence, maternal anger, and child maltreatment. The data thus collected were analyzed by means of Structural Equation Modeling. The results indicated that maternal anger partially mediated the association between marital conflict and child maltreatment. In more concrete terms, the direct and indirect effects of marital conflict on child maltreatment were a little greater than the direct effect of maternal anger on child maltreatment. The effects of marital conflict on maternal anger was the greatest among all associations between the research variables included in this study. The findings of this study have a number of implications for research and practice, which highlights the important considerations that both cultivating positive marital relationships and regulating maternal anger should be emphasized in prevention and intervention programs for child maltreatment.
This study investigates the relationships among emotional support from social network, ego-resiliency, and role conflict of teachers in kindergartens and day care centers. The subjects were 192 teachers who worked in kindergartens or child care centers in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Province. Questionnaires, which require self-report by teachers, were used to investigate the emotional support from social network, ego-resiliency, and role conflict. The collected data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, single and multiple regressions, using SPSS Win 15.0. The results are as follows. (1) Emotional support from social network and ego-resiliency was negatively associated with the role conflict of teachers in kindergartens and day care centers. (2) Emotional support from social network was positively associated with ego-resiliency. (3) Emotional support from social network partly exerted indirect effects on role conflict mediated by ego-resiliency. But direct effect of emotional support from social network on role conflict was more than the indirect effect. These results indicate that a higher level of emotional support from social network is more likely to lower role conflict of teachers.
Background: Conservation of resources theory assumes loss of resources as a cause of job strain. In hospital work, conflicts with supervisors are tested to predict lower resources, that is, supervisory social support, participation possibilities, and appreciation. All three resources are expected to predict, in turn, experienced stress (job strain) and lower job satisfaction, lower affective commitment, and a higher resigned attitude towards the job (job attitudes). Methods: The sample included 1,073 employees from 14 Swiss hospitals (n = 604 nurses, n = 81 physicians, n = 135 medical therapists, and n = 253 technical and administrative staff). Of the total sample, 83.1% were female and 38.9% worked full-time. The median tenure was between 7 years and 10 years. Constructs were assessed by online questionnaires. Structural equation modeling was used to test mediation. Results: Structural equation modeling confirmed the negative association of conflict with supervisors and job resources. Tests of indirect paths to resources as a link between conflicts with supervisors and job attitudes were significant. For nurses, social support, participation and appreciation showed a significant indirect path, while among medical technicians the indirect paths included social support and appreciation, and among physicians only appreciation showed a significant indirect path. In medical therapists no indirect path was significant. Job resources did not mediate the link between conflict with supervisors and stress in any occupational group. Conclusion: Conflicts with supervisors are likely to reduce job resources and in turn to lower job attitudes. Work design in hospitals should, therefore, address interpersonal working conditions and conflict management in leadership development.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the structural relationships between adolescent problem behaviors and related variables. The subjects of this study consisted of 250 to second graders from a middle school in S city in the Gyeongbuk province of South Korea. The sample variance-covariance matrix was analyzed using AMOS 20.0, and a maximum likelihood minimization function. The results were as follows : First, marital conflict in terms of the father's open communication model indicated both a direct and indirect effect upon adolescent problem behaviors. Marital conflict in terms of the father's problematic communication model revealed an indirect effect upon adolescent problem behaviors also indicated that these behaviors were also mediated by the father's problems communication. Second, a open communication style on the part of the father indicated a partially mediating effect on the relationship between marital conflict and adolescent problem behaviors. The problematic communication model on the part of the father revealed a very clear mediating effect on the relationship between marital conflict and adolescent problem behaviors.
