  • The purpose of this research is to analyze how appropriately the sizing of domestically produced children's wear compares to children's sizes; it is based on an anthropometric survey conducted in 1998. By discovering and understanding discrepancies between the sizing system of children s wear and the real size of children, this study aims to suggest solutions that will lead to increased comfort and more suitable fitting in children's clothes. This research analyzes and compares 'the extent of growth between age groups' with 'the difference in sizing system in use by manufacturers'. The study focused on aged 4 to 12 children, who are usually divided in two groups; primary students and toddlers. In total, seven sizes were selected: bust, waist, and hip (which are girth sizes), and height, back neck to waist (top length), sleeve length, and waist to ankle (slacks length) as representing length. The results of this research are analyzed by basing on the actual increments between the sizes of children's wear in certain basic items rather than sizes themselves because each size quite differed according to companies, items and designs. Significantly, the increase in the sizing was not as great as the average biennial growth rate of children. The consequences are poorer fit and unsuitable representative value for each age group because the actual sizes of children increasingly differ from the sample size. Observing the increments in several sizes, we found that 81.8% of the companies used the certain and equal increases for grading sizes in sleeve length, waist, and bust. In addition, 72.7% of the companies adopted the same increments between sizes in height and hip girth, and 63.6% also chose equal increments in T-shirt length for making smaller or bigger sizes from the sample size. However, sleeve length and pant length were the components that displayed the most varied sizing. Interestingly, the few companies that used different increments between size groups, adopted the change only between one or two size groups, instead of all sizes. In conclusion, this research reveals the unsuitability of the current sizing system and the necessity to increase consumer confidence in the size tags on children's wear by modifying the system to reflect the actual growth of children. The results can also contribute to future study on the development of a new and more accurate sizing system for children's wear.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose grading increments chart for women's bodice sloper in their 20s in order to increase consumer satisfaction with apparel products. The selected bodice sloper is a compromise between the German Müller bodice sloper and the Japanese Munhwa bodice sloper. Based on National Standards Position Survey data, the main dimension average for women in their 20s was set. The grading increments was set at the grading deviation application area in bodyboard and sleeve. Thereafter grading was done and the suitability of the graded pattern was checked.

Three-Winning Transformer Protection Based on Flux Linkage Ratio (쇄교자속비를 이용한 3권선 변압기 보호)

  • This paper describes a three-winding transformer protective relaying algorithm based on the ratio of increments of flux linkages (RIFL). To minimize the approximation errors, the algorithm uses integration approximation. The RIFL of the two windings is equal to the turns ratio for all operating conditions except for an internal fault. For a single-phase and three-phase transformer containing the wye-connected windings, the increments of flux linkages (IFL) are calculated. For a three-phase transformer containing the delta-connected windings, the difference of IFL between the two phases are calculated to use the line currents, because the winding currents are practically unavailable. Their ratios are compared with the turns ratio. The comparative study between the proposed and differential approximation methods was conducted. The test results show that the algorithm can reduce the errors resulting from the conventional methods.

  • Modified-Shrink-Fit(MSF) method of compound cylinder is studied to increase elastic load carrying capacity (ELCC) of pressure vessel. The autofrettage and the shrink-fit processes are used to study the MSF process. Theoretical analyses based on the Tresca yield criterion, Hencky's total strain theory and elastic linearly strain-hardening material are carried out to derive closed form solutions. Experimental results are compared with theoretical results with various diameter ratios between outer (SM45C) and inner (SM20C) bloc cylinder. For various diameter ratios, increments of ELCC have errors in strains vs. internal loading pressures between experimental and theoretical results. But experimental results show good agreements with theoretical results in reyield pressurizing state. The increments of ELCC of compound cylinder manufactured by the MSF process is proved by measuring the residual stresses.

The test results show that the algorithm reduces the approximation errors of the conventional methods.

  • This paper focuses on the in-house reliability assurance plan for the bulk materials of each company. The reliability assurance needs in essence a long time and high cost for testing the materials. In order to reduce the time and cost, accelerated life test is adopted. The bulk sampling technique was used for acceptance. Design parameters might be total sample size(segments and increments}, stress level and so on. We focus on deciding the sample size by minimizing the asymptotic variance of test statistics as well as satisfying the consumer's risk. In bulk sampling, we also induce the sample size by adapting the normal life time distribution model when the variable of the lognormal life time distribution is transformed and adapted to the model. In addition, the sample size for both the segments and increments can be induced by minimizing the asymptotic variance of test statistics of the segments and increments with consumer's risk met. We can assure the reliability of the mean life and B100p life time of the bulk materials by using the calculated minimum sample size.
