  • The subjects of this validation of the Antisocial Behavior Scale(ABS) consisted of 323 normal and 29 clinically referred preschoolers between the ages of four and six years. The ABS has 3 factors: oppositional/aggression, nonsocial/egoism, and inattention. Results showed high test-retest reliability(r=.83-.90). The scale discriminated between the normal and clinical groups. The first(oppositional/aggression) and the third(inattention) factors of the ABS, measuring externalizing behaviors, correlated highly with the Externalizing Problems and Attention Problems Scales of the Korean Version of Child Behavior Checklist(K-CBCL). The second(nonsocial/egoism) factor of the ABS, measuring emotional areas correlated highly with the Emotional Liability Scale of the K-CBCL.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the pattern characteristics of symptoms for ADHD, the relationship between pattern identifications in TKM and TCM and three presentations of ADHD defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5). Methods The pattern characteristics of symptoms for ADHD from the 13 Korean and Chinese literatures were analyzed. ADHD symptoms of each pattern were classified into 3 categories; symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity-impulsivity and others. The characteristics of patterns for ADHD in Traditional Medicine were compared with three presentations of ADHD defined in DSM-5. Results 1. The pattern of dual deficiency of the heart and spleen (心脾兩虛) showed predominant symptoms of inattention and rarely showed those of severe hyperactivity and impulsivity. This characteristic of ADHD can be related to the predominantly inattentive presentation in DSM-5. 2. The pattern of phlegm-fire harassing the heart (痰火擾心), and the pattern of deficiency of liver-yin and kidney-yin (肝腎陰虛), frequently showed symptoms of hyperactivity-impulsivity compared with those of inattention. This characteristic of ADHD can be related to the predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation in DSM-5. 3. The pattern of spleen weakness and liver energy preponderance (脾虛肝旺) frequently showed both symptoms of hyperactivity, and this characteristic of ADHD can be related to the combined presentation in DSM-5. Conclusions This study showed the relationship between three presentations of ADHD defined in DSM-5 and the pattern identifications of ADHD in TKM and TCM.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors which affect users' fatigue and reluctant intention of using a SNS. In particular, this study focused on the fatigue of SNS users, as the recent excessive use of SNS has led to negative effects such as invasion of privacy, addition and social overload. fatigue This research will explain how producing adverse effects by using SNS caused psychological and mental depression. Previous researches explained that mental fatigue associated with SNS is not simple one and it is complicated with various psychological factors. Considering this fact, this study introduced a behavioral economics concept and a social comparison theory in the research model. Design/methodology/approach For research purposes, this study developed research hypotheses in order to empirically examine the factors that affect SNS users' fatigue and reluctant intention. The empirical research was based on a poll done through 800 research candidates in the SNS fields and the final 451 responses were collected and used in statistical data analysis. The adaptability, trust, and validity to measurement model were verified and the structural relationship in the research model was analyzed through these 451 responses. Findings First of all, maintenance fatigue of SNS had a positive significant effect on coupling and fatigue of SNS and information privacy had a non-significant effect on fatigue. Second, coupling had a negative significant effect on rational inattention, however, perceived cost had a non-significant effect on rational inattention. Third, lateral/upward comparison had a positive significant on user's negative emotions. Meanwhile, user's negative emotions did not have a significant effect on rational inattention.

  • Objectives : Cognitive dysfunction, including inattention, is often observed in patients with depression. Inattentive symptoms in patients with depression is similar to those among attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) patients. It is important to diagnose the two diseases accurately, because the treatment varies depending on the cause of inattention. This study aimed to investigate the coexistence rate of ADHD and the correlation between ADHD symptoms and depression in patients with depression. Methods : Participants in this study were 158 outpatients presenting with depression, who visited the psychiatric department from March 2015 to July 2018. Participants divided into a depression and a non-depression group according to the Korean version of the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D) score and were administered the following : a sociodemographic variables form (age, sex, academic background, occupation), the self-reporting test for adult ADHD (Adult Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder self-report scale-V 1.1; ASRS V1.1), and the Korean version of the Connors adult ADHD rating scale (K-CAARS). Descriptive statistical analysis, crossover analysis, t-tests, and Pearson's correlation coefficient were conducted on the data. Results : The coexistence rate of adult ADHD symptom was as high as 36.7% in patients with depression (p<0.001). In K-CAARS, the depression group (Inattention=1.80, Hyperactivity=1.92, Impulsivity=1.56, Self-concept=2.06) showed higher average scores on ADHD symptoms than the non-depressive group (Inattention=1.28, Hyperactivity=1.25, Impulsivity=1.09, Self-concept=1.42, p<0.001). Conclusions : This study confirmed that ADHD symptoms coexist in the depression group. When evaluating the symptoms of patients who complain of depression, it is suggested that they should be accurately diagnosed and appropriately treated with interest to the coexistence of ADHD symptoms and the possibility for ADHD diagnosis.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the lifestyle factors influencing behavioral problems such as Inattention, hyperactivity/impulsivity, and internet overuse in elementary and middle school students. Data from 889 elementary school students and 676 middle school students were used and teacher reporting on students' attention deficit and hyperactivity and impulsivity symptoms was also included in the analysis. Lifestyle included opportunities for family interaction, sleep, watching TV, playing Video games, eating breakfast, eating junk food, and private education. As a result of stepwise regression analysis, Video games, junk foods, and family interactions significantly predicted the inattention of elementary and middle school students. Video games, TV, junk foods, and family interactions significantly predicted elementary school students' hyperactivity and impulsivity, but the lifestyle variables hardly accounted for the hyperactivity/impulsivity of middle school students. Video game, and family interactions significantly predicted Internet overuse for both elementary and middle school students. Current study suggest that family interaction opportunities and the use of video games, TV and junk food should be considered to intervene in behavior problems.

  • Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsiveness. Current estimates suggest that 4-12% of school age children are affected by ADHD, which hampers proper social relationship and achievements in school. Even though the exact etiology of the disorder is still in the middle of active investigation, the availability of pharmacological treatments for the disorder suggest that at least the symptoms of ADHD are manageable. To develop drugs with higher efficacy and fewer side effects, it is essential to have appropriate animal models for in vivo drug screening processes. Good animal models can also provide the chances to improve our understanding of the disease processes as well as the underlying etiology of the disorder. In this review, we summarized current animal models used for ADHD research and discussed the point of concerns about using specific animal models.

  • The aim of this study is to examine the diagnostic profiles and related clinical variables of children with attention and hyperactivity in psychiatric outpatient clinic. Seventy one children with age range of 5 to 14 were diagnosed by DSM-IV, and assessment battery including KEDI-WISC, KPI-C, ADS(ADHD Diagnostic System) were completed. The subjects were divided into 3 diagnostic groups:ADHD only(n=17), ADHD comorbid(n=27), Other diagnosis(n=27). The results were as follows:In ADHD comorbid group, tic disorder, developmental language disorder, borderline intellectual function, oppositional defiant/conduct disorder, and learning disorder were combined in descending order. Other diagnosis group consisted of tic disorder, borderline intellectual function, depression/anxiety, oppositional defiant/conduct disorder, and others. There were significant differences in IQ, PIQ, and VIQ among the three groups, and ADHD only group showed higher scores of IQ and VIQ than ADHD comorbid group. On the KPI-C, there were no significant differences in all subscales among the three groups. On the visual ADS, omission error and sensitivity showed significant differences among the three groups, and ADHD comorbid group represented higher omission error and lower sensitivity than other diagnostic group. The findings indicated that the inattention and hyperactivity symptoms could be diagnosed into diverse psychiatric disorders in child psychiatry, and ADHD children with comorbidity will show more problems in academic performance and school adjustment.
