This paper presents the optimization steps with weight and importance of estimated characteristic values in the multiresponse surface analysis(MRA). The research introduces the shape parameter of individual desirability function for relaxation and tighening of specification bounds. The study also proposes the combinded desirability function using arithmetic, geometric and harmonic means considering the measurement unit and numerical pattern.

The purpose of this study was to measure consumption values and to investigate the differences in the process of decision making when purchasing apparel products among groups divided by consumption values. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 550 subjects in their 20's and 30's from Sepember 29th to October 25th in 2001; 463 were used for the data analysis. The results of this study were as follows; Consumption values were classified into five factors: Practical/functional value, Social/conformitive value, Subjective/aesthetic value, Epistemic value and Conspicuous value. Subjects were classified into 4 groups based on consumption values: the Conspicuous, the Epistemic, the Social/conformitive and the Indifferent. There were significant differences among the four groups in selected motives in the problem recognition process. Significant differences were found among the groups in own taste & personality in the information search process. Significant difference were also found in the importance of design, color, price, coordination, fashion and self-image in the alternative evaluation process.

The importance of values has been emphasized in the aspect of the cause and solution of environmental problems. It is suggested that educational programs designed to increase environmental concern should be focused on ecocentric values. To do this, it is a prerequisite to understand the level of learners'environmental value. This study measured the level of environmental values of students in secondary schools in Seoul and identified relationship with its variables such as belief, the degree of identification, and environmental experience. We discussed on how to improve the environmental education in the aspects of fostering ecocentric values from the results of this study.

Modulus of deformation of soil is an essential parameter used for design analysis of foundations, despite its importance; little attention is paid to developing empirical models for predicting the sensitivity of deformation moduli to other parameters that obtained from the pressuremeter tests. Various methods of analysis used to predict the horizontal at rest pressure from pressuremeter testing ($P_o$), these values showed distinctive variations, five methods used to evaluate the values of horizontal at rest pressure, these values been used to evaluate the modulus of elasticity using three methods of analysis. The values of modulus showed distinctive increase when the values of horizontal at rest pressure increase for the same pressuremeter test, these increases may reach to 65%. This sensitivity of the moduli to values of horizontal lead the author to propose some reliable methods of analysis for both the horizontal at rest pressure and the modulus of deformation from pressuremeter testing.

This paper proposes the information retrieval improvement for the Web using the structure and hyperlinks of HTML documents along with user profile. The method bases on the rationale that terms appearing in different structure of documents may have different significance in identifying the documents. The method partitions the occurrence of terms in a document collection into six classes according to the tags in which particular terms occurred (such as Title, H1-H6 and Anchor). We use genetic algorithm to determine class importance values and expand user query. We also use this value in similarity computation and update user profile. Then a genetic algorithm is used again to select some terms from user profile to expand the original query. Lastly, the search engine uses the expanded query for searching and the results of the search engine are scored by similarity values between each result and the user profile. Vector space model is used and the weighting schemes of traditional information retrieval were extended to include class importance values. The tested results show that precision is up to 81.5%.

In the global context, particularly in Christian nations, Christmas is considered a culturally and ethically significant time. In this study, we examine Charles Dickens' novel, "A Christmas Carol," and the celebration of Christmas in Korea. We explore the values of Christmas in Korea derived from the significance and importance of this novel. These values include repentance, empathy, compassion, and the importance of humanity. Korean Christmas is regarded as a time for practicing these values, bearing a message akin to the transformation of characters like Scrooge. Furthermore, "A Christmas Carol" conveys a message of improvement and change over time, emphasizing change and growth in Korean Christmas. People reflect on their past, correct their mistakes, nurture hope for the future, and experience personal growth and transformation. Additionally, the novel raises awareness of social injustice and inequality, offering alternatives. In Korean society, Christmas encourages the willingness to care for and help others, facilitating discussions and understanding of societal issues. For these reasons, "A Christmas Carol" is considered a culturally and ethically significant time in Korean Christmas, and the two are intertwined in various aspects. This study explores the interaction between cultural change and ethical teachings by 'A Christmas Carol' and investigates the impact of this work on Christmas culture and social change. It serves as the basis for emphasizing moral principles and humanity during the Christmas season, and this research provides suggestions for future research directions, aiming to deepen the understanding of Dickens' work and the importance of "A Christmas Carol." Through these efforts, it is expected that valuable insights into the connection between Christmas culture and moral messages will be gained. In this study, we will delve into the enduring appeal and cultural significance of "A Christmas Carol," discussing how this novel has evolved into a beloved holiday tradition and a true symbol of Christmas. We will also examine the adaptation of this novel into various media and its influence on holiday season celebrations. Insights into the impact of this novel on Korean society and its continued significance in modern times will be provided, suggesting a direction for a healthier and more desirable path for Korean society.

최근 자연성지에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 자연성지란 특정 민족이나 공동체에게 특별한 영적 중요성을 갖는 육상 또는 해상의 구역으로서 정의된다. 본 연구는 최근 이슈화되고 있는 자연성지에 대한 개념과 가치, 관리원칙에 대하여 이론적으로 고찰하였다. 또한, 자연성지의 가치를 적용 가능한 국내 천연기념물 식물의 현황을 분석하고 그 특성을 살펴보았다. 분석결과 국내 천연기념물 식물 중 63건이 이에 해당되었으며, 생물다양성, 문화성, 경관 및 미적 가치와 함께 관광자원으로써의 가치를 지니고 있었다. 이는 자연성지의 가치와 일치하는 것이었으며, 향후 우리나라 자연성지 등재 작업에 기초자료로 제공하고자 한다. 본 논문은 국제적으로 중요성이 대두되고 있는 자연성지를 국내 천연기념물 식물 측면에서 재조명함으로써 어떻게 관리하고 보전해야 하는지 보여주었다는데 의의를 지니며, 향후 보다 구체적이고 실증적인 추가 연구가 필요하다.

Dosan Seowon, one of the earliest and most prestigious private Confucian academies in Korea, is an example of a heritage property citizens wish to sustain for the benefit of future generations. It is recognized of its contribution to the Korean society and as an architectural and historical interest. This study conducts architectural and cultural research about Dosan Seowon by scrutinizing its evidential, historical, aesthetic and spatial values. By doing so, it is possible to recognize how appreciated qualities are vulnerable to harm through only understanding their heritage values without practical management solutions. That understanding should then provide the basis for developing and implementing management strategies (including maintenance, cyclical renewal and repair) that will best sustain the heritage values in a physical aspect. The conclusion suggests that communication about Dosan Seowon among those who are concerened is significant.

This study was intended to examine the effects of socioeconomic status on housing values, norms, and behaviors of young households. The purpose was accomplished using the Life Style Survey of 2001 in Ulsan, and the data from 370 households were analyzed. The importance of household income and current housing size which are used as a proxy for socioeconomic status in explaining housing values, norms, and behaviors were once again confirmed in this study, even if there were some other significant variables. This implies that housing values, norms, and behaviors tend to change according to the socioeconomic characteristics of the households under the conditions of controlling demographic ones.

This study was conducted to estimate the drift of change for in Kimchi purchases, and to contribute to the efforts to improve the quality improvement of Kimchi sold at markets. Questionnaires were distributed to 450 adults, and 396 samples were statistically analyzed. There were significant differences in the average values of importance and satisfaction. Based on analyses of the 14 factors, the level of satisfaction was significantly lower than the level of importance. Importance-factors such as 'taste' ($4.56{\pm}0.81$) and consistency of 'quality' ($4.37{\pm}0.79$) are very important to consumers, whereas 'package volume' ($3.79{\pm}0.91$) and 'price cutting' ($3.84{\pm}1.01$) are rarely considered by consumers. Fourteen significance factors were three factors. Overall significance for selection attributes when purchasing Kimchi differed according to gender, age and marital status. Fourteen satisfaction factors were extracted to four factors. Overall satisfaction for selection attributes when purchasing Kimchi differed according to martrial status. Total satisfaction with selection attributes when purchasing the food was greatly affected by its quality and packaging. These findings confirmed that Kimchi products should be diversified and active marketing should be carried out if Kimchi is to become a global product.
