Characteristics of Neutral Point Loci on Line Voltages to Hull When Insulation Resistance Collapses by Earthing Faults at 3 Phase Power Distribution Systems Onboard Vessels (선박 3상배전선로의 지락고장에 따른 대지전압 중성점의 이동경로 특성)

  • Ungrounded power systems are adopted onboard vessels which enable more stabilized power supply even in case of electric leakage to hull. If earthing faults happen at these systems, they make grounding impedances of power lines unbalanced each other on the three phases, resulting in high voltages to hull which can bring more possibilities of electric shocks and electric fires. This study focuses on how to configure a calculation module for transferring a grounded condition by lowered insulation resistance into a vector diagram of the voltages to hull. By using the module, the loci of neutral points were acquired to analyze how voltages to hull are affected by earthing faults and the distributed capacitances between power lines and hull. The suggested module was simulated and compared to the measured values from a test power system in good results.

Electrochemical Characteristics of Silicon/Carbon Composites for Anode Materials of Lithium Ion Batteries (리튬이온배터리 음극활물질 Silicon/Carbon 복합소재의 전기화학적 특성)

  • Silicon/carbon composites as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries were examined to find the cycle performance and capacity. Silicon/carbon composites were prepared by a two-step method, including the magnesiothermic reduction of SBA-15 (Santa Barbara Amorphous material No. 15) and carbonization of phenol resin. The electrochemical behaviors of lithium ion batteries were characterized by charge/discharge, cycle, cyclic voltammetry and impedance tests. The improved electrochemical performance attributed to the fact that silicon/carbon composites suppress the volume expansion of the silicon particles and enhance the conductivity of silicon/carbon composites (30 ohm) compared to that of using the pure silicon (235 ohm). The anode electrode of silicon/carbon composites showed the high capacity approaching 1,348 mAh/g and the capacity retention ratio of 76% after 50 cycles.

Finite Element Analysis of Eddy Current Testing for Tubes with 3-Dimensional Defects (3차원 관결함에 대한 와전류탐상의 유한요소해석)

  • In this paper, a numerical analysis using the finite element method (FEM) is presented which models the eddy current testing (ECT) of tubes with 3-dimensional defects. For the description of 3-dimensional eddy current problems, the governing equation is derived from the Maxwell's equations. The 3-dimensional FEM formulation with hexahedral elements is carried out using the Galerkin weighted residual method. The INCONEL 600 steam generator tube with inner and outer diameter defects is adopted for the numerical analysis, and the ECT signal, which is the trajectory of the probe impedance, is calculated. For the verification of the numerical analysis method, results of numerical calculations and experiments are compared and they show good agreements. Based on this verification, several defect signals are predicted and their characteristics are investigated with the variation in the defect depth and the circumferential angle of the defect.

  • The 1-3 piezoelectric composite transducer with 75 volume percents PZT was fabricated by the dicing-filling method. The resonance modes of the 1-3 transducer have been studied with electric impedance measurement as a function of frequency. The fundamental frequencies of the planar and thickness mode were observed at 0.95MHz and 1.63MHz respectively, but the lateral mode was not observed. In the thickness mode, the electromechanical coupling coefficient of the 1-3 piezoelectric composite transducer, 0.54, was very closed to that of the single phase PZT(0.52). The pulse-echo response by exciting the 1-3 transducer with an electric pulse was observed from the water/reflector interface, and analyzed bandwidth by the spectrum of the impulse response. The quality factor Q for the 1-3 transducer was observed as 1.5 smaller than that of the single phase(80) and then the 1-3 transducer may be used to the broad band type transducer applications.

Power Amplifier Design using λ/4 DGS(Defected Ground Structure) Bias Line (λ/4 DGS 바이어스 선로를 이용한 전력증폭기 설계)

  • In this paper, a new λ/4 bias transmission line that is added dumbbell-shaped defected ground structure(DGS) on ground plane of the conventional λ/4 bias transmission line is proposed. This DGS λ/4 bias transmission line maintains high characteristic impedance, but physical width is wider and length is shorter than that of the conventional bias line. If the proposed bias line is attached on signal transmission line, this bias line can reduces the $3^{rd}$ harmonic signal as well as the$2^{nd}$ harmonic signal. With harmonic reduction characteristics, efficiency and linearity of amplifier are improved. The proposed bias line is adopted in power amplifier on IMT-2000 base-station transmitting band. This paper presents several simulations and experimental results of DGS to show validity of the proposed power amplifier using the new λ/4 bias transmission line. Experimental results represent that the $3^{rd}$ harmonic signal is reduced about 26.5 dB and efficiency is improved about 9.1 % and IMD3 is improved 4.5 dB than the conventional structure.

  • Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) is a promising alternative solar cell to the conventional silicon solar cell due to several advantages. Development of large scale module is necessary to commercialize the DSC in the near future. A scribing technology of the transparent conductive oxide (TCO) is one of the important technologies on the fabrication of DSC module. A quality of the scribed line on the TCO has a decisive effect on the efficiency of DSC module. Among several scribing technologies, the fiber laser is a suitable for scribing the TCO more precisely and accurately because of their own characteristics. In this study, we try to improve the quality of the TCO scribed line by using the fiber laser. Consequently, the operating parameter of fiber laser is optimized to get the TCO scribed line with good quality. And the fiber laser scribing technology of the TCO is applied to the fabrication of the DSC with optimal operating parameter, operating current 3900mA. As a result, the current density and fill factor are improved and the total efficiency is increased because the internal resistances of DSC such as TCO sheet resistance and the resistance concerned to the electron movement in the $TiO_2$ are reduced. This is analyzed by the electrochemistry impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and the equivalent circuit model of the DSC.

Compact Broad Band-pass Filter with SIR-Parallel Coupled Structure (SIR 평행결합 선로를 갖는 소형 광대역 대역통과 필터)

  • In this paper, the reduced size of broad bandpass filter with parallel coupled line structure is presented. This proposed filter can control bandwidth of narrow to broadband by adjusting the coupling coefficient. The conventional filter is operated with a narrow band. If a higher bandwidth is desired than the conventional narrow bandwidth, it is hard to realize due to the coupling coefficient between feeding line and resonator. In this paper, to overcome this limitation, a proposed bandpass filter is designed with reduced size due to SIR(Stepped Impedance Resonator) and multi-grade type structures than conventional one, and it has characteristics of adjusting bandwidth freely as per quantity of coupling coefficient. The proposed bandpass filter that, experimental results of insertion and return losses are 0.42 dB and 20.9 dB with bandwidth of 60 % at the center frequency of 5.8 GHz, respectively.

A Study on Distance Relay Characteristics for Transmission Line wish the Unified Power Flow Controller (송전선로에 UPFC연계시 거리계전기 동작특성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper represents impedance calculation of the distance relay using PSCAD/EMTDC software for transmission line involving the UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controller)device, which is the most vigorous component of FACTS. The presence of the UPFC significantly affects the line parameters of transmission system, which are also influenced by the distance relay setting. Moreover, depending on the UPFC location and its parameters, zones of setting the distance relay will be changed. The presence of the UPFC in the fault loop affects both voltage and current seen by relay. Therefore, the distance relay should be taken into account the variable injected voltage of the UPFC.

A Study on Dual Circular Polarized Patch Antenna with Compact Size (소형 이중 원형편파 패치안테나에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes a compact microstrip antenna with dual polarization characteristics. The antenna, receiving both a left-hand circularly polarized(LHCP) wave and a right-hand circularly polarized(RHCP) wave, can be used for a polarization diversity. A diamond-shaped patch with internal empty room is designed for impedance matching as well as size reduction. And slots are added around feeding point to improve input matching. The proposed antenna has been applied to GPS(global positioning system), operating at 1.57GHz. And, the proposed idea has been verified and estimated by simulation. The measurement results show that it has VSWR 2:1 bandwidth of 83MHz, 3dB axial bandwidth of about 58MHz, 3dB beamwidth of 90degree, and gain of 0dBi, respectively, for RHCP. Also, it has similar performances for LHCP.

Compact Broadband Monopole Antenna for Digital TV Reception (디지털 TV 수신용 소형 광대역 모노폴 안테나)

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact broadband planar monopole antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is studied. The proposed broadband monopole is optimized for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception. In order to achieve broadband characteristics, the monopole and ground conductor are gradually tapered. By loading slit pairs on both monopole and ground plane, the proposed antenna is miniaturized. The monopole is fed by a CPW with 75-ohm characteristic impedance on an FR4 substrate and its size is $100mm{\times}200mm$. The optimized monopole antenna for DTV band (470-806 MHz) is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and tested experimentally to verify the results of this study.
