  • In this study, the initiation of steel corrosion was monitored due to chloride attack using embedded sensor. In general, Steel bars embedded in concrete are protected from corrosion by being forming a passive film on the surface. However, the passive film is destroyed by chemical erosion such as concrete carbonation and chloride penetration, and the rebar is exposed to the deteriorating factor and corrosion proceeds. In order to realize the initiation of steel corrosion, OCP and change of Impedance parameter were observed by using Half-cell and EIS method depending on cover depth. As result, 10mm cover showed the impedence increased in 6weeks.

  • A triaxial Blumlein pulse forming line has been designed to generate a pulse whose voltage is ~300 kV, pulse duration is ~5 ns, and rise time is ~500 ps. It turns out, however, that the rise time of the pulse becomes much longer than 500 ps due to parasitic inductances and capacitances existing inside the system. A peaking switch has been developed to shorten the rise time of the pulse from Blumlein pulse forming line. In the peaking switch, a wedge-shaped dielectric material (MC 901 nylon) is employed to surround the electrode on the antenna side. This shape inhibits an abrupt change of the output impedance, thereby minimizing the reflection of the output pulse. Experimental results show that the peaking switch is capable of improving the rise time of the pulse at a level of 500 ps.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a sensing system to measure the capacitance of a pre-developed engine oil deterioration detection sensor integrated with an oil filter. To measure the capacitance of engine oil in the sensor, it is used the way measuring the electric charging time in a capacitor by impressing DC volt. This method has merits on cost and signal stability. The measured capacitance is compensated by comparison with the one measured by an impedance analyzer. Also, using the dielectric constant gained by an impedance analyzer, the calculating equation of the dielectric constant of engine oil related with the currently developed sensor is decided. Finally, the degradation degree of engine oil is estimated according to the change rate of dielectric constant between green oil and used oil. The newly developed personal controller is to control a series of the processes.

  • The impedance of an electro-acoustic transducer can be controlled by motional feedback, and the noise in a duct can be reduced actively by adjusting the impedance using an additional sound. In this paper, two approaches for active noise control using motional feedback (MFB) loudspeaker are described. First configuration uses an external sensor to pickup of source directly. In this configuration, the adaptation of controller is necessary to compensate the change of transfer function from noise source to control poing. The second configuration uses a new adaptive algorithm specialized for peridic noise. Because this configuration does not require any reference input and the error sensor couples very tightly with control loudspeaker, this MFB system itself is independent of the duct condition. No microphone are required in both configurations, so that a more reliable and stable active control system can be realized under severe conditions such as high pressure, high temperature, dust, flow and so on.

  • As the battery capacity requirement increases, battery cells are connected in a parallel configuration. However, the sharing current of each battery cell becomes unequal due to the imbalance between cell's impedance which results the mismatched states of charge (SOC). The conventional fixed-resistance balancing methods have a limitation in battery equalization performance and system efficiency. This paper proposes a battery equalization method based on dynamic resistance technique, which can improve equalization performance and reduce the loss dissipation. Based on the SOC rate of parallel connected battery cells, the switches in the equalization circuit are controlled to change the equivalent series impedance of the parallel branch, which regulates the current flow to maximize SOC utilization. To verify the method, operations of 4 parallel-connected 18650 Li-ion battery cells with 3.7V-2.6Ah individually are simulated on Matlab/Simulink. The results show that the SOCs are balanced within 1% difference with less power dissipation over the conventional method.

  • In this study, an anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) cell was operated for ~1000 h at a voltage bias of 1.95 V. Impedance spectra were regularly measured every ~ 100 h, and changes in the ohmic and non-ohmic resistance were traced as a function of time. While there was relatively little change in the I-V curves and the total cell resistance during the long-term test, we observed various electrochemical phenomena in the cell: 1) initial activation with a decrease in both ohmic and non-ohmic resistance; 2) momentary and non-permanent bubble resistance (non-ohmic resistance) depending on the voltage bias, and 3) membrane degradation with a slight increase in the ohmic resistance. Thus, the regular test protocol used in this study provided clear insights into the performance degradation (or improvement) mechanism of AEMWE cells.

  • Spinel $LiMn_{2-y}$$M_{y}$ $O_4$powder was prepared solid-state method by calcining the mixture of LiOH - $H_2O$, Mn $O_2$, ZnO and MgO at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 36h. To investigate the effect of substitution with Mg, Zn cation, charge-discharge experiments and initial impedance spectroscopy performed. The structure of $LiMn_{2-y}$$M_{y}$ $O_4$crystallites was analyzed from powder X-ray diffraction data as a cubic spinel, space group Fd3m. all cathode material showed spinel phase based on cubic phase in X-ray diffraction. Ununiform which calculated by (111) face and (222) face was constant in spite of the change of y value, except PUf\ulcorner LiM $n_2$ $O_4$. The discharge capacities of the cathode for the cation subbstitUtes $LiMn_{2-y}$$M_{y}$ $O_4$/Li cell at the 1st cycle and at the 40th cycle were about 120~124 and 108~112mAh/g except LiM $n_{1.9}$Z $n_{0.1}$ $O_4$/Li cell, respectively. This cell capacity is retained by 93% after 40th cycle. AC impedance of $LiMn_{2-y}$$M_{y}$ $O_4$/Li cells revealed the similar resistance of about 65~110$\Omega$ before cycling. before cycling.g.g.

  • This paper evaluates the influences of sex on the human emotions while coexisting with robots. When we consider human vision, robot's motion is the most important parameter which influences human emotions and must be well controlled for males and females emotions. On the other hand, when we consider human touch of sense, which is effective for cooperation transmitting mutual forces, the softness of robot is an important parameter for human emotions and must be also well controlled for males and females emotions. From these points of view, at first, we evaluate robot's motion under four different shapes of velocity pattern while handing over a cup to humans. Second, we evaluate robot's softness realized by impedance control. From the first experiment, we concluded that the conditions of choosing an adequate maximum velocity value and locating the velocity peak at the center or the first half of the duration are necessary for male's emotions. In addition, the smooth velocity decrease in the last part of the velocity pattern's duration is desired for female's emotions. From the second experiment, we concluded that females prefer lighter values of virtual impedance characteristics than males and any small increase on the heaviness of virtual impedance values is followed by the negative exponential change on human emotions.

  • A new bioelectrical impedance method has been developed and evaluated. The electrodes; were made of stainless steel and electrical interfaces were created by an upright subject gripping hand electrodes and stepping onto foot electrodes. Eight tactile electrodes were in contact with surfaces of both hands and feet; thumb, palm and fingers, front sole, and rear sole. Automatic on-off switches were used to change current pathways and to measure voltage differences for target segments. Segmental body resistances and whole body resistance(RWHOLE)were measured in 60 healthy subjects. Segmental resistances of right arm(RRA), left arm(RLA), trunk(RT), right leg(RRL) and left leg(RLL)were310.0$\pm$61.6$\Omega$, 316.9$\pm$64.6$\Omega$, 25.1$\pm$3.4$\Omega$, 236.8$\pm$31.2$\Omega$ and 237.6$\pm$30.4$\Omega$, respectively. Individual segmental impedance indexes(Ht2/RRA, Ht2/RT, and Ht2 /RLA) were closely related to lean body mass(LBM)as measured by densitometry ranged from r=0.925 to 0.960. Ht2/(RRA+RT+RLA) predicted LBM slightly better(r=0.969) than the traditional index, Ht2/RWHOLE(r=0.964), supporting the accuracy of the segmental measurement. A multiple regression equation utilizing Ht2/RRA, Ht2/RT and Ht2/RRL predicted LBM with r=0.971. Ht2/RRA term of the regression contributed to more than 40$\%$ of the LBM prediction, indicating that lean mass of arm represented whole body LBM more closely than other body segments. The new bioimpedance method was characterized by upright posture, eight tactile electrodes, segmental measurements and utilization of electronic switches in comparison with the traditional method. The measurement with this new method was extremely reproducible, quick and easy to use.

  • In this paper, a Cold PHEMT equivalent circuit was proposed, and it is applied to extract extrinsic resistances. By using the proposed Cold PHEMT equivalent circuit, the variation of impedance with frequency and bias were mainly emphasized. Especially, the convergence of impedance with frequency and the change in impedance with bias were carefully analyzed, which may be used for fast extraction of extrinsic resistances. The proposed extraction method demonstrated improving of small signal model accuracy than conventional extraction method.
