Performance of Membrane Electrode Assembly for DMFC Prepared by Bar-Coating Method (Bar-Coating 방법으로 제조한 직접메탄올 연료전지 MEA의 성능)

  • The key component of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), which comprises a polymer electrolyte membrane and catalyst layers (anode and cathode electrode). Generally the catalyst layer is coated on the porous electrode supporter (e.g. carbon paper or cloth) using various coating methods such as brushing, decal transfer, spray coating and screen printing methods. However, these methods were disadvantageous in terms of the uniformity of catalyst layer thickness, catalyst loss, and coating time. In this work, we used bar-coating method which can prepare the catalyst layer with uniform thickness for MEA of DMFC. The surface and cross-section morphologies of the catalyst layers were observed by SEM. The performances and resistance of the MEAs were investigated through a single cell evaluation and impedance analyzer.

  • The water-like ionic liquids have been widely used to enable the proton conduction in ionic liquid based membranes at high temperature and anhydrous PEFCs. In this study, we synthesized various kinds of composite membranes based on hydrocarbon polymers having good thermal and mechanical stabilities at high temperatures and ionic liquids. The composite membrane consisting of hydrocarbon polymer and ionic liquid was characterized by thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and impedance spectroscopy. Consequently the non-aqueous composite membranes of a variety of hydrocarbon polymer and ionic liquids have good conductivity and thermal stability at high temperature conditions.

The Correlational Study of Health Promotion Lifestyle and Body Composition in a University Students (일개 대학생의 건강증진 생활양식과 신체조성간의 관계 연구)

  • Purporse : The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between a health promoting lifestyle and body composition in university students. The study subjects were 194 university students who attended K-university located in Chungnam. Methods : The data was collected between March 2 and May 31, 2004. The instrument used for this study was the modified Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile(HPLP) developed by Walker, Sechrist, & Pender(1987). The body composition was measured by In Body 3.0, a Bioelectrical Impedance Analyzer. The data was analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 10.0 program by t-test, ANOVA and pearson correlation coefficients. Results : The results of this study are as follows: 1) The scores of the Health Promoting Lifestyle(HPL) ranged from 79 to 170, with a mean score of 110(±15.8). The mean scores of sub-categorical HPL were self-actualization 31.8(±4.9), health responsibility 17.0(±4.0), exercise 8.3(±3.2), nutrition 15.4(±3.7), interpersonal relationships 20.3(±3.5) and stress management 17.2(±3.4). 2) The HPL according to the subjects' general characteristics had significant correlation to exercise amount(F=8.09, p<.01), drinking amount(F=6.56, p<.01), perceived health status(F=19.2, p<.01) and perceived health knowledge (F=15.9, p<.01). 3) The total HPL did not significantly correlate with any categories in body composition. The exercise area of sub-categorical HPL had significant positive correlation to height (r=.199, p<.01), weight(r=.181, p<.05) and soft lean mass(r=.257, p<.01), and negative correlation to percent body fat(r=-.255, p<.01) in body composition. Conclusion : The results suggest that the exercise area of sub-categorical HPL was an important variable for an exercise program's development such as nursing intervention for the health promotion of university students.

  • To obtain ceramic films, the sol-gel coating technique has been broadly used with heat treatment, but crack formation tend to occur during heat treatment in thick sol-gel films. We prepared PZT thin films by sol-gel method with single-step spin coating process. The PZT solution have been synthesized using lead acetate ($Pb(CH_3COO)_2$), zirconium acetylacetonate ($Zr(OC_3H_7^n)_4$), and titanium diisopropoxide bis(acetylacetonate) 75wt% in isopropanol ($Ti(OC_3H_7^i)_2(OC_3H_7^n)_2$) as starting materials and n-propanol was selected as a solvent. The poly(vynilpyrrolidone) (PVP) was added with 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1 molar ratios to control viscosity of solution. We investigated influence of the viscosity on thickness, microstructure, and electrical properties of final PZT films. Thermo-gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimeter (TGA/DSC) was carried out from room temperature to $800^{\circ}C$ in order to measure pyrolysis temperature. Structural characteristics were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Ferroelectric and dielectric properties were measured by RT66A (Radiant) and impedance analyzer (Agilent), respectively. The thicknesses of PZT films depended on incorporation of an excess amount of PVP. Finally, we obtained PZT films of good quality without crack formation via single-step spin coating.

Dietary Intake Differences among Korean Male Smokers, Ex-smokers and Non-smokers

  • This study investigated the differences in dietary intake, age, body mass index(BMI), marital status and education of 1,585 Korean healthy males among current smokers, ex-smokers and non-smokers. Dietary intake was determined by a food frequency questionnaire at the Samsung Medical Center in Seoul, Korea. A bioelectric impedance analyzer measured height, body weight and BMI. This study identified 50% of the study group as current smokers and 30% as ex-smokers and 20% as non-smokers. The mean body mass index was 23.7kg/㎡ and did not differ significantly among the three groups. THe current smokers were younger(44.9 years old) and contained a lower percentage(58.5%) of college graduate than that of ex-smokers or non-smokers. The percentage of non-consumers of meat, eggs, beans and bean products was higher in non-smokers than that of ex-smokers or current smokers. Smoking was to a significant degree positively related to the amount of coffee and alcoholic beverages consumed and negatively related to the amount of milk and milk products and fruits consumed. The intake of eggs, milk and milk products, fruit, coffee, sweets, fats and oils were significantly different among the three groups. after adjusting for age, education level, marital status, and alcohol consumption. There was a strong positive relationship between smoking intensity and the intake of coffee and alcoholic beverages(p<0.0005), and an inverse relationship between smoking intensity and fruit, milk and milk product intake(p<0.005). The current smokers were characterized by a higher intake of total energy and cholesterol, and a lower intake of dietary fibers, ${\beta}$-carotine and folate than those of non-smokers or ex-smokers. The nutrient intake of ex-smokers was moderate and highest in ${\beta}$-carotine and folate, which suggested that ex-smokers were trying to change their life style.

  • Effects of specimen area on the corrosion rate of low alloy steel were studied in sulfuric acid solution. The corrosion behavior of specimen was tested by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), linear polarization resistance measurement (LPR) and potentiodynamic polarization measurement. The surface was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron probe X-ray micro analyzer (EPMA). As surface area was increased, corrosion rate was increased by the effect of small anode-large cathode.

  • In order to enhance energy efficiency in high electric conversion devices such as Power transformers, which need to have high power properties, an alloy design approach in $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3(PZT)$ base ceramic system was attempted $0.03Pb(Sb_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_3-0.03Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-(0.94-x)PbTiO_3-xPbZrO_3$[PSN-PMN- PZT] ceramics were synthesized by conventional bulk ceramic processing technique. To improve power properties, the various Zr/Ti ratio was varied ]lear their morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) composition of PSN-PMN-PZT system and their effects on subsequent piezoelectric and dielectric properties for the transformer application at high power were systematically investigated using an impedance analyzer. Microstructure and phase information were characterized using X-ray diffractometer (XRD), a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and others. When the Zr/Ti ratio was 0.415/0.465, the value of $Q_m\;and\;k_p$ were shown to reach to the maximum, indicating that this alloy design can be a feasible composition :or high power transformer.

Design of Mobile Handset Chip Antenna with a Backside Ground for Wi-Fi Application (후면 그라운드를 이용한 휴대단말 Wi-Fi 칩 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a new small chip antenna for Wi-Fi application of the mobile handset is proposed. To miniaturize the chip antenna, the proposed antenna is designed to have the backside ground. The proposed antenna has S-shaped structure, which is designed on the LCP(Liquid Crystal Polymer) with ${\varepsilon}_r$=3.5. The size of the proposed antenna is $6.0mm{\times}2.5mm{\times}1.2mm$. The measured impedance bandwidth under a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of 2 was 300 MHz(fractional bandwidth: 12.2 % 2.3~2.6 GHz), and peak gain is 1.42 dBi. The proposed antenna was designed using CST Microwave Studio commercial software tool. And the fabricated antenna is measured using a network analyzer and in anechoic chamber.

The Properties of $Bi_2Mg_{2/3}Nb_{4/3}O_7$ Thin Films Deposited on Copper Clad Laminates For Embedded Capacitor (임베디드 커패시터의 응용을 위해 CCL 기판 위에 평가된 BMN 박막의 특성)

  • Capacitors among the embedded passive components are most widely studied because they are the major components in terms of size and number and hard to embed compared with resistors and inductors due to the more complicated structure. To fabricate a capacitor-embedded PCB for in-line process, it is essential to adopt a low temperature process (<$200^{\circ}C$). However, high dielectric materials such as ferroelectrics show a low permittivity and a high dielectric loss when they are processed at low temperatures. To solve these contradicting problems, we studied BMN materials as a candidate for dielectric capacitors. processed at PCB-compatible temperatures. The morphologies of BMN thin films were investigated by AFM and SEM equipment. The electric properties (C-F, I-V) of Pt/BMN/Cu/polymer were evaluated using an impedance analysis (HP 4194A) and semiconductor parameter analyzer (HP4156A). $Bi_2Mg_{2/3}Nb_{4/3}O_7$(BMN) thin films deposited on copper clad laminate substrates by sputtering system as a function of Ar/$O_2$ flow rate at room temperature showed smooth surface morphologies having root mean square roughness of approximately 5.0 nm. 200-nm-thick films deposited at RT exhibit a dielectric constant of 40, a capacitance density of approximately $150\;nF/cm^2$, and breakdown voltage above 6 V. The crystallinity of the BMN thin films was studied by TEM and XRD. BMN thin film capacitors are expected to be promising candidates as embedded capacitors for printed circuit board (PCB).

(1-x)$(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-xLiNbO_3$ 무연 압전세라믹스의 첨가물질에 따른 전기적 특성 평가

  • 강유전성 세라믹스 재료로써는 PZT계열의 세라믹재료가 널리 쓰이고 있다. 이는 우수한 유전 및 압전특성을 가지고 있으나, PbO을 다량 함유하고 있어 $1000^{\circ}C$이상에서 PbO가 급격하게 휘발되는 성질에 따라서 조성의 변동이 생겨 재현성이 어려우며 이를 방지하기 위하여 과잉 PbO를 첨가시키기 때문에 PbO휘발로 인한 강한 독성이 인체에 유해하다. 최근에는 Pb의 환경문제가 대두됨에 따라 이를 대체할 다른 물질의 개발이 활발하게 연구되고 있다. 대표적인 비납계 강유전 세라믹스인 $(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3$ ($d_{33}$ = 120 pC/N, Kp = 39%, Qm = 210, 이하 NKN라 표기) 조성은 $KNbO_3,\;NaNbO_3$ 상태도에 따라 순수한 NKN 세라믹스는 $1140^{\circ}C$에서 안정상을 가지나, 높은 온도로 인하여$Na_2O$$K_2O$가 쉽게 휘발됨에 따라 화학량 비의 변화가 생겨 이차 상을 형성하기도 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 $LiNbO_3$의 새로운 고용체를 추가시켜 기본 NKN조성에 압전성 및 고온에서의 상안정성을 향상시키고자 하였다. 최적 조성을 설계하기 위하여 (1-x)$(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-xLiNbO_3$, x=(0,0.02,0.04,0.06,0.08)의 범위에서 조성을 변화시키면서 실험하였다. 시편 제작은 일반적인 세라믹스 소결 공정을 적용하였는데, $850^{\circ}C$에서 5시간 하소 후 $1080^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 소결하였다. 하소 및 소결 후에는 XRD분석을 통해 perovskite구조를 확인하였고, 미세구조 확인을 위해 주사전자현미경 (SEM)으로 관찰하였다. 압전특성을 평가하기 위해 압전 $d_{33}$-meter를 사용하였으며, impedance analyzer (HP 4194A)를 이용하여 전기적 특성을 측정하였다.
