  • Color image dehazing techniques have been extensively studied, and especially the dark channel prior (DCP)-based method has been widely used. Near infrared (NIR) image based applications are also widespread; however, NIR image-specific dehazing techniques have not attracted great interest. In this paper, the characteristics of NIR images are analyzed and compared with the color images' characteristics. The conventional color image dehazing method is also applied to NIR images to understand its effectiveness on different frequency-band signals. Furthermore, we modify the DCP method considering the characteristics of NIR images and show that our proposed method results in improved dehazed NIR images.

  • Vision-based navigation of unmaned aerial vehicle is a significant technology that can reinforce the vulnerability of the widely used GPS/INS integrated navigation system. However, the existing image matching algorithms are not suitable for matching the aerial image with the database. For the reason, this paper proposes particle filters using Gaussian mixture models to deal with matching between aerial image and database for vision-based navigation. The particle filters estimate the position of the aircraft by comparing the correspondences of aerial image and database under the assumption of Gaussian mixture model. Finally, Monte Carlo simulation is presented to demonstrate performance of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a parametric line equation on the log-polar mapped plane to detect the straight lines in an original image. The log-polar edge image used in Hough transform is constructed by combining the edge images of both fovea and periphery. The foveal edge image detected by a Sobel mask on the Cartesian plane is transformed to the log-polar plane by forward mapping but the edge detection of the peripheral region is obtained by directly applying the newly developed mask to the log-polar plane. This paper also proposes a analytic method then determining a border between the fovea and the periphery regions.

  • Haze is an extreme reason of the reduction of contrast when capturing image in the outdoor. Recently, there are several single image dehazing techniques, but they are not robust in dynamic variations of natural environment caused by the thickness, coverage of haze and appearance of sunlight. In this paper, we propose an effective and robust method to restore degradation of hazy image. Compare with conventional methods, our proposal have better performance and computation time.

  • Integral imaging is one of the three-dimensional(3D) display methods, which is an autostereoscopic method. The integral imaging system can provide volumetric 3D image which has both vertical and horizontal parallaxes. The elemental image which is obtained in the pickup process by lens array has the 3D information of the object and can be used for the depth perception and the 3D correlation. Moreover, the elemental image which represents a cyber-space can be generated by computer process.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the meanings and expressional characteristics of space-time concept in modern architecture. As the architecture spaces reflect and represent the characteristics of times, the meaning and modern expression of space-time concept was studied in the developmental process of space concept on the base of the background of philosophy, science and psychology. At the late 19th century, space concept was changed with relative time-space in philosophy and science and the theory of visual perception. In the beginning of 20th century, space-time concept that combined space with time in the process of image open space expanded movement was developed. In modern architecture, it was expressed as the freedom of movement by open space expanded infinitely and/or abstract space without spacial measure, multiple view point by superimposed and/or polyhedric space and kinetic vision by dynamic and/or continuous space.

  • Pixel values of original image can be changed by XORing pixel values of original image and pixel values of the basis image obtained by pseudo random sequences. This is a simple method for image encryption. This method is an effect method for easy hardware implementation and image encryption with high speed. In this paper we propose a method to obtain basis image with pseudo random sequences with large nonlinearity using nonlinear cellular automata and maximum length linear cellular automata. And experimental results showed that the proposed image encryption scheme has large key space and low correlation of adjacent cipher pixel values.

  • Image chain analysis of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite is one of the primary activities for satellite design because SAR image quality depends on spacecraft bus performance as well as SAR payload. Especially, satellite pointing and stability error make worst effect on the original SAR image quality which is implemented by SAR payload design. In this research, Image chain analysis S/W was developed in order to analyze the SAR image quality degradation due to satellite pointing and stability error. This S/W consists of orbit model, attitude control model, SAR payload model, clutter model, and SAR processor. SAR raw data, which includes total 25 point targets in the scene of $5km{\times}5km$ swath width, was generated and then processed for analysis. High resolution mode (spotlight), of which resolution is 1m, was applied. The results of image chain analysis show that radiometric accuracy is the most degraded due to the pointing error. Therefore, the successful design of attitude control subsystem in spacecraft bus for enhancing the pointing accuracy is most important for image quality.

  • Many countries are trying to deploy satellite surveillance systems for their national defense, and one of these system uses optical systems to observe the satellites above their territories. The optical satellite surveillance system requires the coordinates of the satellites in an acquired image and expects that those coordinates to be delivered to the tracking system. The proposed method detects the satellite sources in a high-resolution image with fast image processing for the optical surveillance system. To achieve faster detection, the proposed method reduces the size of the original image and approximates the trajectory of a satellite, so image processing methods are only applied to the nearby area of the approximated trajectory in the original image. The proposed method shows the similar detection performance faster than the previous method.

  • Soil structure plays an important role in ecological system, since it controls transport and storage of air, gas, nutrients and solutions. The study of soil structure requires an understanding of the interrelations and interactions between the diverse soil components at various levels of organization. Investigations of the spatial distribution of pore/particle arrangements and the geometry of soil pore space can provide important information regarding ecological or crop system. Because of conveniences in image analyses and accuracy, these investigations have been thrived for a long time. Image analyses from soil sections through impregnated blocks of undisturbed soil (2 dimensional image analyses) or from 3 dimensional scanned soils by computer tomography allow quantitative assessment of the pore space. Image analysis techniques can be used to classify pore types and quantify pore structure without inaccurate or hard labor in laboratory. In this paper, the last 50 years of the soil image analyses have been presented and measurements on various soil scales were introduced, as well. In addition to history of image analyses, a couple of examples for soil image analyses were displayed. The discussion was made on the applications of image analyses and techniques to quantify pore/soil structure.
