  • Purpose: To investigate the value of MR textural analysis, including use of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) to differentiate malignant from benign soft-tissue tumors on 3T MRI. Materials and Methods: We enrolled 69 patients (25 men, 44 women, ages 18 to 84 years) with pathologically confirmed soft-tissue tumors (29 benign, 40 malignant) who underwent pre-treatment 3T-MRI. We calculated MR texture, including mean, standard deviation (SD), skewness, kurtosis, mean of positive pixels (MPP), and entropy, according to different spatial-scale factors (SSF, 0, 2, 4, 6) on axial T1- and T2-weighted images (T1WI, T2WI), contrast-enhanced T1WI (CE-T1WI), high b-value DWI (800 sec/mm2), and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map. We used the Mann-Whitney U test, logistic regression, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for statistical analysis. Results: Malignant soft-tissue tumors had significantly lower mean values of DWI, ADC, T2WI and CE-T1WI, MPP of ADC, and CE-T1WI, but significantly higher kurtosis of DWI, T1WI, and CE-T1WI, and entropy of DWI, ADC, and T2WI than did benign tumors (P < 0.050). In multivariate logistic regression, the mean ADC value (SSF, 6) and kurtosis of CE-T1WI (SSF, 4) were independently associated with malignancy (P ≤ 0.009). A multivariate model of MR features worked well for diagnosis of malignant soft-tissue tumors (AUC, 0.909). Conclusion: Accurate diagnosis could be obtained using MR textural analysis with DWI and CE-T1WI in differentiating benign from malignant soft-tissue tumors.

  • Proposed in this paper is the intelligent video surveillance system to effectively detect multiple loitering objects even that disappear from the out of camera's field of view and later return to a target zone. After the background and foreground are segmented using Gaussian mixture model and shadows are removed, the objects returning to the target zone is recognized using the chromaticity histogram and the duration of loitering is preserved. For more accurate measurement of the loitering behavior, the camera calibration is also applied to map the image plane to the real-world ground. Hence, the loitering behavior can be detected by considering the time duration of the object's existence in the real-world space. The experiment was performed using loitering video and all of the loitering behaviors are accurately detected.

  • Attempts to interpret human perspectives using computer vision have been developed in various fields. In this paper, we propose a method for evaluating the walking environment through semantic segmentation results of images from road images. First, the Kakao Map API was used to collect road images, and four-way images were collected from about 50,000 points in JeonJu. 20% of the collected images build datasets through crowdsourcing-based paired comparisons, and train various regression models using paired comparison data. In order to derive the walkability score of the image data, the ranking score is calculated using the Trueskill algorithm, which is a ranking algorithm, and the walkability and analysis using various regression models are performed using the constructed data. Through this study, it is shown that the walkability of Jeonju can be evaluated and scores can be derived through the correlation between pixel distribution classification information rather than human vision.

  • In this study, we perform deep learning-based object detection analysis on eight types of buildings defined by the digital map topography standard code, leveraging images taken with UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). Image labeling was done for 509 images taken by UAVs and the YOLO (You Only Look Once) v5 model was applied to proceed with learning and inference. For experiments and analysis, data were analyzed by applying an open source-based analysis platform and algorithm, and as a result of the analysis, building objects were detected with a prediction probability of 88% to 98%. In addition, the learning method and model construction method necessary for the high accuracy of building object detection in the process of constructing and repetitive learning of training data were analyzed, and a method of applying the learned model to other images was sought. Through this study, a model in which high-efficiency deep neural networks and spatial information data are fused will be proposed, and the fusion of spatial information data and deep learning technology will provide a lot of help in improving the efficiency, analysis and prediction of spatial information data construction in the future.

  • This study used high-resolution satellite images and supervised classification technique based on machine learning method in order to detect the areas affected by wildfires in the demilitarized zone (DMZ) where direct access is difficult. Sentinel-2 A/B was used for high-resolution satellite images. Land cover map was calculated based on the SVM supervised classification technique. In order to find the optimal combination to classify the DMZ wildfire damage area, supervised classification according to various kernel and band combinations in the SVM was performed and the accuracy was evaluated through the error matrix. Verification was performed by comparing the results of the wildfire detection based on satellite image and data by the wildfire statistical annual report in 2020 and 2021. Also, wildfire damage areas was detected for which there is no current data in 2022. This is to quickly determine reliable results.

  • Reconstructing underwater geometry in real time with forward-looking sonar is critical for applications such as localization, mapping, and path planning. Geometrical data must be repeatedly calculated and overwritten in real time because the reliability of the acoustic data is affected by various factors. Moreover, scattering of signal data during the coordinate conversion process may lead to geometrical errors, which lowers the accuracy of the information obtained by the sensor system. In this study, we propose a three-step data processing method with low computational cost for real-time operation. First, the number of data points to be interpolated is determined with respect to the distance between each point and the size of the data grid in a Cartesian coordinate system. Then, the data are processed with a nonlinear interpolation so that they exhibit linear properties in the coordinate system. Finally, the data are transformed based on variations in the position and orientation of the sonar over time. The results of an evaluation of our proposed approach in a simulation show that the nonlinear interpolation operation constructed a continuous underwater geometry dataset with low geometrical error.

  • P-3C/K aircraft for maritime patrols that Republic of Korea Navy is using, is equipped with a variety of sensors and communication devices. Collected data from the aircraft is managed as tactical information by flight operators and stored. When the flight mission is completed, this information is transferred to tactical support center on the ground and played back or used for follow-up work through a analysis tool. During a flight mission, there are tens of thousands of detection objects within an hour in KADIZ (Korea air defense identification zone). In contrast, in TSD (tactical situation display), which displays a map when using the analysis tool, all detected objects are expressed as symbols. The increase in display symbols has a significant impact on the TSD image updating and consequently interferes with the smooth operation of operators. In this paper, we propose applying multiple threads and multiple layers to improve the performance of existing TSD. And the performance improvement is proven through the execution results.

  • Using 3D asphalt pavement surface data, a deep and multiscale network named CrackNet-M is proposed in this paper for pixel-level crack detection for improvements in both accuracy and robustness. The CrackNet-M consists of four function-specific architectural modules: a central branch net (CBN), a crack map enhancement (CME) module, three pooling feature pyramids (PFP), and an output layer. The CBN maintains crack boundaries using no pooling reductions throughout all convolutional layers. The CME applies a pooling layer to enhance potential thin cracks for better continuity, consuming no data loss and attenuation when working jointly with CBN. The PFP modules implement direct down-sampling and pyramidal up-sampling with multiscale contexts specifically for the detection of thick cracks and exclusion of non-crack patterns. Finally, the output layer is optimized with a skip layer supervision technique proposed to further improve the network performance. Compared with traditional supervisions, the skip layer supervision brings about not only significant performance gains with respect to both accuracy and robustness but a faster convergence rate. CrackNet-M was trained on a total of 2,500 pixel-wise annotated 3D pavement images and finely scaled with another 200 images with full considerations on accuracy and efficiency. CrackNet-M can potentially achieve crack detection in real-time with a processing speed of 40 ms/image. The experimental results on 500 testing images demonstrate that CrackNet-M can effectively detect both thick and thin cracks from various pavement surfaces with a high level of Precision (94.28%), Recall (93.89%), and F-measure (94.04%). In addition, the proposed CrackNet-M compares favorably to other well-developed networks with respect to the detection of thin cracks as well as the removal of shoulder drop-offs.

  • Amidst the rapid growth of the vegan cosmetics market, consumer orientation towards environmental and ethical values has been intensifying. However, research on this subject remains limited. This study delves into the relationship between consumer value perception, environmental motivations, and perceived barriers influencing the purchase intentions of vegan cosmetics. Conducting a PLS-SEM analysis on a sample of 300 women with experience using vegan cosmetics, it was discerned that monetary value, social value, brand value, emotional value, quality value, and environmental knowledge play significant roles in influencing purchase intentions. The moderating effect analysis highlighted image barriers and value barriers as crucial factors. Through Importance-Performance Map Analysis, emotional value emerged as a pivotal element in strategizing to strengthen the purchasing intentions for vegan cosmetics. This research contributes both theoretically and practically to enhancing the competitive edge of the vegan cosmetics market and promoting sustainable consumption behavior.
