The Nakdong Estuary Barrage is a tidal river environment where freshwater and seawater meet. This requires systematic monitoring of both surface water discharged from the estuary barrage and submarine groundwater discharge. In this study, upstream hydrograph and water balance analysis were used to calculate the change in water storage and discharge of the Nakdong Estuary Barrage. Submarine groundwater discharge was also calculated based on remote sensing-based digital elevation model data and hydrological modeling data, and compared with the estimated surface water discharge for analysis. Our proposed method can be efficiently applied to water resource management by utilizing remote sensing-based altimeter data other than field measurement. Because submarine groundwater discharge plays a significant role on the coastal environment as well as surface water discharge from an estuary barrage, studies on groundwatersurface water interactions in a river estuary should be sufficiently considered in monitoring the ecosystem of the Nakdong Estuary Barrage.

An automatic optimization technique is used to estimate the optimal parameters of the hydrologic model, and different hydrologic response results can be provided depending on objective functions. In this study, the parameters of the event-based rainfall-runoff model were estimated using various objective functions, the reproducibility of the hydrograph according to the objective functions was evaluated, and appropriate objective functions were proposed. As the rainfall-runoff model, the storage function model(SFM), which is a lumped hydrologic model used for runoff simulation in the current Korean flood forecasting system, was selected. In order to evaluate the reproducibility of the hydrograph for each objective function, 9 rainfall events were selected for the Cheoncheon basin, which is the upstream basin of Yongdam Dam, and widely-used 7 objective functions were selected for parameter estimation of the SFM for each rainfall event. Then, the reproducibility of the simulated hydrograph using the optimal parameter sets based on the different objective functions was analyzed. As a result, RMSE, NSE, and RSR, which include the error square term in the objective function, showed the highest accuracy for all rainfall events except for Event 7. In addition, in the case of PBIAS and VE, which include an error term compared to the observed flow, it also showed relatively stable reproducibility of the hydrograph. However, in the case of MIA, which adjusts parameters sensitive to high flow and low flow simultaneously, the hydrograph reproducibility performance was found to be very low.
The floodwave analysis for unsteady supercritical flow is performed. The numerical model. based on dynamic wave equation is presented by introducing the general Preissmann scheme and fore-sweep algorithm. The model is applied to Buffalo-Creek floods for proving its validity, and the simulation results have good agreements with those computed by DAMBRK and the observed data. It is also applied to Hyogi dam-break. The outflow hydrograph is derived based on the observed data and the analysis for the floodwave propagation is investigated.

The existing flood runoff models, Complex Hydrograph and HEC-1, have some problems which do not properly represent runoff characteristics on the Korean paddy basin and their basin slopes. In this study, FAS(Flood Analysis System) was developed in order to supplement those problems, which was built calibrating runoff curve number for paddy basin and applying basin slopes to classify 5 levels. And also the FAS can synthesize the flood hydrographs of subbasin and analyze flood routing along a stream. To verify the applicability of the FAS, the computed flood hydrographs were compared with the observed hydrographs from the four watersheds. In the small basin smaller than 10$\textrm{km}^2$, the results of the FAS did not completely agree with the observed ones due to concentration time delay of paddy storage effect while in the medium and large size basin showed good agreements between the observed and computed ones. Therefore, it was concluded that the FAS could be applied for the flood analysis of Korean watershed which was characterized by paddy storage effect.
The problems of hydrologic similarity among river basins was analyzed by a geomorphologic response model using Hortons*s ordering scheme. The Nash model was used for deriving the geomorphologic response function, and for the optimization of the responsefunction, imcomplete gamma function andRosso*s regression equation were used. The application of this method was tested on some observed flood data of Pyungchang river basin and Wi Stream basin and Bocheong stream, and predictions of hydrologic response were compared with that of the Moment method. The results show that the proposed model and dimensionless instantaneous unit hydrograph can be used for the runoff analysis of an ungauged basin and the analysis of hydrologic similarity.
In this study, as a method for decreasing the confidence interval of the estimates of Clark hydrograph's concentration time and storage coefficient, regression equations of these parameters with respect to those of rainfall, meteorology, and basin characteristics are derived and analyzed using the Monte Carlo simulation technique. The results are also reviewed by comparing them with those derived by applying the Bootstrap technique and empirical equations. Results derived from this research are summarized as follows. (1) Even in case of limited rainfall events are available, it is possible to estimate the mean runoff characteristics by considering the affecting factors to runoff characteristics. (2) It is also possible to use the Monte Carlo simulation technique for estimating and evaluating the confidence intervals for concentration time and storage coefficient. The confidence intervals estimated in this study were found much narrower than those of Yoo et al. (2006). (3) A supporting result could also be derived using the Bootstrap technique. However, at least 20 independent rainfall events are necessary to get a rather significant result for concentration time and storage coefficient. (4) No empirical equations are found to be properly applicable for the study basin. However, empirical equations like the Kraven(I) and Kraven(II) are found valid for the estimation of concentration time, on the other hand the Linsley is found valid for the storage coefficient In this study basin. But users of these empirical formula should be careful as these also provide a wide range of possible values.
This study evaluated the parameters of Clark unit hydrograph (UH) estimated using the rainfall-runoff measurements and evaluated their variability. This also includes the quantification of basin and meteorological factors using probability density functions, selection of storm events with mean affecting factors, and derivation of average parameters of the Clark UH from storm events selected. Summarizing the results from this procedure are as follows. (1) It is not easy to avoid much uncertainty on the decision of runoff characteristics (that is, the concentration time and storage coefficient) even with some rainfall-runoff events are available. (2) As the distribution function of concentration time is very skewed, a simple arithmetic mean may lead a biased estimate. That is, the arithmetic mean based on the normal distribution can not be representative anymore. The mode may well be the representative in this case. On the other hand, the storage coefficient shows a symmetric distribution function, so the arithmetic mean may be used use for its representative. For the basin in this study, the concentration time in this study is estimated to be about 7 hours, and the storage coefficient about 22 hours.

The parameter of impulse response of groundwater proposed by Kraijenhoff, that is, the reservoir coefficient j is determined on the basis of the least squares criteria. The degree (${\alpha}$) which expresses how much each sequential storm contributes to groundwater flow through the saturated soil is obtained by the optimization techniques which minimize deviations between observed and derived runoff hydrograph, and the convolution summation for the linear theory is used. A numerical example for this study is carried out for a storm event of Goose Creek basin near Leesburg, Virginia. As the results, the groundwater unit hydrograph and baseflow were able to be obtained. The used optimization technique is suited to the purpose of this study in case of the constraints. It is judged that the results allow the determination of baseflow.

The schemes synthesizing the instantaneous unit hydrograph(IUH) are presented by using the geomorphologic parameters of a basin. To this end, the channels in the network are numbered according to the Strahler scheme, and the mathematical formulation corresponding to a dynamic probability theory for deriving the geomorphologic IUH(GUH) is refered to the existing techniques adopted by Rodriguez-Iturbe and Valdes. Also, the mean runoff velocity is applied for expressing a dynamic state of flow. The applicability of the GUH to the real drainage basins is tested by using the data observed in a few basins with areas of the order of 9.2, 20, 33.63, and $109.73km^2$ in Korea. The test is carried out by checking the discrepancies between the observed and simulated values for the peak discharge and its time of occurrence which are the most important parameters of an IUH by varing the mean runoff velocity and the inputs. As a result, good agreement is found between them, and it is shown that the variability in peak discharge of hydrograph depends on the mean runoff velocity more than the constant loss rate.

Climate change has been obtained researchers' interest, especially in water resources engineering to adjust current conditions to the new circumstance influenced by climate change. In this study, WRF-ARW will be evaluated the capability to estimate distributed precipitation using global weather information instead of the data from rainfall observatory or radar. Cheongmi watershed is selected and adopted to generate a distributed rainfall-runoff model using ModClark. The results from the distributed model with precipitation data from WRF-ARW and the lumped model using observed precipitation data were compared to the observed discharge values. The final results showed that the distributed model, ModClark generated similar pattern of hydrograph to the observations in terms of the time and amount of peak discharge. In addition, the trend of hydrograph from the distributed model presented similar pattern to the observations.
