This mini review focuses on foodborne illnesses and outbreaks caused by food-producing animals because statistical information of the foodborne illnesses is important in human health and food industry. Contaminated food results in 600 million cases of foodborne diseases and 420,000 deaths worldwide every year. The world population is currently 7.8 billion, and 56 million people die every year; of these, every year, 7.69% of people experience foodborne diseases, and 7.5% of annual deaths (56 million deaths) was died by foodborne illness in the world. A majority of such patients are affected by norovirus and Campylobacter. Listeria monocytogenes is the most fatal. In the United States, except for those caused by Campylobacter, the number of foodborne diseases did not decrease between 1997 and 2017, and cases caused by Toxoplasma gondii are still being reported (9 cases in 2017). The percentage of foodborne illnesses caused by food-producing animals was 10.4%-14.1% between 1999 and 2017 in the United States. In Europe, foodborne illnesses affect 23 million people every year and cause approximately 5,000 deaths. Europe has more Campylobacter- and Salmonella-related cases than in other countries. In Australia, the highest number of cases are due to Campylobacter, followed by Salmonella. In Korea, Escherichia coli followed by norovirus. Campylobacter- and Clostridium perfringens-related cases have been reported in Japan as well. This review suggests that Campylobacter, Salmonella, L. monocytogenes, and E. coli, which are usually isolated from animal-source food products are associated with a high risk of foodborne illnesses.

We have been designing human interactions for some learning support system or education system. The design is based on a symbol grounding model. The model is applicable to many learning domains using virtual reality technology. The design policy is simple and compact. In order to realize the policy we use/reuse some devices from the viewpoint of virtual reality. This paper introduces basic ideas and explains several example cases based on the idea.
The purpose of this paper is to suggest Korean regulatory requirements of railway drivers' qualifications. The qualification of railway drivers is one of major factors that should be managed to reduce human error induced incidents/accidents. We have collected those domestic/foreign cases for suggesting Korean regulatory requirements of railway drivers' qualifications. And we have analysed them to derive some regulatory requirements reducing human error. Finally, we have done preliminary FGI(focused group interview) to vitrificate and validate the regulatory requirements.
The international nuclear industry has undergone a lot of changes since the Fukushima, Chernobyl and TMI nuclear power plant accidents. However, there are still large and small component deficiencies at nuclear power plants in the world. There are many causes of electrical equipment defects. There are also factors that cause component failures due to human errors. This paper analyzed the root causes of failure and types of human error in 300 cases of electrical component failures. We analyzed the operating experience of electrical components by methods of root causes in K-HPES (Korean-version of Human Performance Enhancement System) and by methods of human error types in HuRAM+ (Human error-Related event root cause Analysis Method Plus). As a result of analysis, the most electrical component failures appeared as circuit breakers and emergency generators. The major causes of failure showed deterioration and contact failure of electrical components by human error of operations management. The causes of direct failure were due to aged components. Types of human error affecting the causes of electrical equipment failure are as follows. The human error type group I showed that errors of commission (EOC) were 97%, the human error type group II showed that slip/lapse errors were 74%, and the human error type group III showed that latent errors were 95%. This paper is meaningful in that we have approached the causes of electrical equipment failures from a comprehensive human error perspective and found a countermeasure against the root cause. This study will help human performance enhancement in nuclear power plants. However, this paper has done a lot of research on improving human performance in the maintenance field rather than in the design and construction stages. In the future, continuous research on types of human error and prevention measures in the design and construction sector will be required.
The evaluation of the ride quality had been performed by the subjective method before ISO2631(International Organization for Stadard 2631) and BS6841(British Standard 6841) was precented, but many research programs have been performed by the objective method after that. On this study, the ride quality was evaluated related with the objective method which considered the vibration which the human body feels on the driver's seat while driving on the road. In particular, we made the shock absorber nonlinear model and also selected the suitable shock absorber in the part of the vibration which the human body feels into the simulation. The shock absorber of suspension was dealt with 3 cases respectively with the front wheel and rear wheel. The vibration of the car driving on the road can be transferred to the wheel, the suspension, the vehicle body, the seat and the human body. The signal which was gained from the seat(hip) and the floor(foot) of the human body was changed to the vibration signal which the human body felt through using the frequency weighting function. And then the performance of the shock absorber was calculated through the statistic processing.
Model' is one of the well-used, but poorly understood word in the neurobehavioral research. After Darwin's evolutionary theory, it has been generally believed that human is different from animals in terms of the complexity, not of the essential. This notion could be applied to the mind as well as body. Therefore, it became possible to establish animal models in the scientific field of mind. Experimental analysis of the animal behavior becomes an important area for establishing an animal model of human psychopathology because behavior is the ambassador of the mind. A model emphasizes a structural correspondence between sets of causally related variables in two different domains such as the animal and the human. The first selection of elements of the two domains in correspondence called the initial analogy. Once the initial analogy is formed. causally related variables in the two domains are examined and arrayed The structural parallel is the formal analogy of a model, and similarities between corresponding variables are called material analogy. Models may serve any of three major functions ; heuristic, evidential and representative. In many cases, utilizing models may be more practical than directly assessing the domain of primary interest, since technical and/or ethical problems are more serious in the human domain. Although modeling is important to study human psychopathology, rare animal models approved to be a good model for the human psychopathology up to now. Developing the appropriate model is urgent to solve many problems raised from human psychopathology.
This paper reviews the toxicological role of median lethal dose ($LD_50$) based on animal and human data. Animal oral $LD_50$ values of eighty seven chemicals were collected and comparatively evaluated with human minimum toxic dose ($TD_50$). In general, animal $LD_50$ values were much higher than human $TD_50$. The ratios between $LD_50$ and TDlo were ranged from 0.01 and over 1000, suggesting safety factor of up to 1000 between humans and animals in the case of acute toxicity data. However, about 40% of chemicals investigated were within the ratio of 10. Although the cases (N=20) were small, $LD_50$ values of guinea pig were closer to human TDlo than those of other animal species. In interanimal species (rat, mouse, rabbit, dog), the ratios of $LD_50$ values were between 0.1 and 5 (up to 50-fold difference). When the data are analyzed by chemical strut-ares, human $TD_50$ values were very close to rat oral $LD_50$ values. These data suggest that rat oral $LD_50$ value might be a useful parameter predicting human TDlo and one animal species could be sufficient for acute toxicity test.
Color can stir up the feeling and the thinking of the human inside, and heals human's illness. The color of architecture is a systematic physical space of shape and color. In other words, color is a kind of visual language organizing a structure and interact with human. The color of hospital can be specially effective to heal the elderly. This study intends to help geriatric hospital in future to elevate remedial value and indicate basic data for adapted the elderly environment. NCS is a kind of color system based on the human psychology and nature. This study researched the color of geriatric hospital with NCS and annualized the color nuance of each spaces. As a result the distribution of color nuance show the present of the geriatric hospital's color planning.
The authors investigate influences of manipulator dynamics on and roles of kinesthetic sensation and visual sensation in a Human-Machine Cooperative System (HMCS). At first, the general structure and essential transfer functions of HMCSs are described based on the previous work. Then, after showing theoretical treatment of manipulator dynamics, this paper analyzes the influences on HMCSs in two cases: one is the control design focusing on tool dynamics and reaction force transfer function, and the other is that specifies maneuver transfer function and transfer function for object dynamics variation. In addition to conventional experiments only employing kinesthetic sensation, other experiments with both kinesthetic and visual sensations are performed to examine difference in the roles of these sensations and the validity of the design without the visual sensation.
Recognizing a human part becomes very important for applications which are based on the interaction between computers and their users. In this paper, we design and implement a system which recognizes and tracks a human head using a sequence of images. Difference images are used to easily extract feature vectors from images with very complex backgrounds. A human bhead is represented with an ellipse and recognized by searching for a maximum value from preprocessed gradient images. The method is developed by considering the fact that the tracking system should be real-time. The designed system not only shows an excellent performance for the normal up-right position of the head, but also for the cases of 360.deg. rotated head position, occluded images of heads, and tilted head positions.
