  • Gardens are known to provide relaxation, including psychological stability and mental rest. Recently, social interest in gardens has been growing in various ways, including the increase of groups sensitive to environmental pollution and a rising interest in the overall management of natural resources. In reality, however, the owners of housing gardens lack fundamental knowledge for creating and maintaining the gardens, directly and indirectly. This limitation presents a number of problems and challenges. Therefore, this study conducted an analysis of various aspects relating to the creation and maintenance of housing gardens, reflecting the sense of ownership. The study aimed to examine the current status, and based on this, it was intended to present improvement measures for practical and efficient creation of housing gardens and their maintenance in the future.

A Study of the Housing Characteristics and Apartment Choice as a Social Class (사회계층에 따른 주거특성 및 아파트 선택에 관한 연구)

  • Survey questionnaires were conducted on housewives under 60 who had bought an apartment in Daegu. The data used in this study is collected Dalseo-Gu, Soosung-Gu and Buk-Gu by means of cluster sampling and from those chosen samples I use convenience sampling. The data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 10.0 program. The purpose of this study is to examine housing characteristics and apartment choice as a social class closely in order to improve value of apartment and to provide housing plan of apartment supply which is distinguished by a social class and moreover, to achieve efficient marketing strategy according to a recent recognition that housing is a kind of commodities. Objective and subjective measure of value are used to classify a social class. Objective measure of value includes scale apartment, a form of possession, a price of apartment, an occupation of husband, family income and academic background and subjective measure of value includes the standard of living out of people's own head. These measure of value are classified by giving consequence to each item with reference to ISC (index of status characteristics) of Wanner. There is a difference of housing characteristics and apartment choice as a social class as a consequence of this study. Therefore, this study suggests repeatedly that it should need not standardized housing supply but apartment supply of diverse demand desire because there is a difference of housing characteristics and apartment choice as a social class.

Health Behaviors and Health Status according to Socioeconomic Status of the Elderly in Daegu (대구시 노인의 사회경제적 특성에 따른 건강행태 및 건강수준)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted in order to investigate health behaviors and health status and to identify factors that affect health behaviors and health status of the elderly in Daegu. Methods: Analysis of data on 360 Daegu citizens aged 65 and over, which were taken from the 2010 social survey, was analyzed using the SAS program. Results: Results of logistic regression analysis showed that gender, age, education, and economic activity were independent predictors of health behaviors. Economic activity and owner-occupied housing were found to be independent predictors of health status. Conclusion: Findings of this study indicate a need for development of strategies to promote the health of vulnerable members of the elderly population with consideration for these variables that were found to affect health behaviors and health status of elderly citizens.

An Analysis on the Household Characteristics and Economic Status of Deficit Households (적자가계의 특성 및 경제구조 분석)

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the characteristics and economic status of deficit households compared to surplus households. Data from The Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2005 by NSO and 50, 207 salary/wage earners' households were used for the analysis. The statistical methods used were GLM, logit, and cluster analyses. The analysis results showed that 25.3 percent of the households were deficit households. Approximately half of the lowest 20% income group were deficit households. Income deficit households earned 1, 273 thousand less than that of surplus households, whereas consumption of deficit households was 1, 006 thousand more than that of surplus households. The average propensity of consumption of deficit households was 142.1. According to the logit analysis, factors contributing to the probability of belonging to a deficit household included income level, household size, age and educational level, occupation, homeownership, car ownership, and wife's employment status. Deficit households were classified into 5 types: 1) health care expenditure-dominated group, 2) housing expenditure-dominated group, 3) education expenditure-dominated group, 4) money transfer-dominated group, and 5) overall-overconsumption group. The overall-overconsumption group was the largest group of all at 58.5%. It was found that for all five groups, the changes in household size, income group, home ownership, and occupation of the individual were variables that influenced the probability of belonging to a certain group.

Missing Value Imputation Method Using CART : For Marital Status in the Population and Housing Census (CART를 활용한 결측값 대체방법 : 인구주택총조사 혼인상태 항목을 중심으로)

  • We proposed imputation strategies for marital status in the Population and Housing Census 2000 in Korea to illustrate the effective missing value imputation methods for social survey. The marital status which have relatively high non-response rates in the Census are considered to develope the effective missing value imputation procedures. The Classification and Regression Tree(CART)is employed to construct the imputation cells for hot-deck imputation, as well as to predict the missing value by model-based approach. We compare to imputation methods which include the CART model-based imputation and the sequential hot-deck imputation based on CART. Also we check whether different modeling for each region provides the more improved results. The results suggest that the proposed hot-deck imputation based on CART is very efficient and strongly recommendable. And the results show that different modeling for each region is not necessary.

U.S. Baby Boomers' Intention to Move and Reasons for Moving after Retirement (은퇴 후 주거이동 의사가 있는 미국 베이비붐 세대의 주거이동 요인분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify U.S. Baby Boomers' intention to move and their reasons for moving after retirement, and to examine the associations between their socio-demographic characteristics and housing characteristics, and their reasons for moving after retirement factors. A total of 403 usable data were collected through an online survey using a self-administrated questionnaire. For data analyses, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, and ANOVA were used. Almost 30% of the total respondents considered moving and 15% were strongly agreed to move after their retirement. The most frequently mentioned reasons for moving after retirement were 'a place with good weather', 'being close to leisure activities', and 'a change or decline of my current neighborhood'. Four factors of reasons for moving after retirement (quality of residential environment, need assistant, proximity to activities, and proximity to family/friends) were identified. Age, marital status, number of household, housing type, homeownership, length of residence, and number of bedroom were significantly associated with the four factors of reasons for moving. The results of this study provide a better understanding to U.S. Baby Boomers' housing behavior after retirement which is 10 years faster than Korea, and suggest insights of housing plan for Korean older adults.

A Study on the Management and Utilization and Application Method of Public Facility in Japanese (일본 분양공동주택의 공용시설 관리와 이용실태 및 활용방안에 관한 연구)

  • In Japan, apartment housing occupies a great proportion of residence due to high population density like Korea. Although Korea and Japan are similar in big proportions of apartment housing, and apartment housing management systems and utilization behaviors, there are considerable differences. This paper examined Japanese public facilities and the status of public facility management and utilization, which differ from those in Korea. In order to analyze the status of public facilities from a perspective of management companies, a preliminary survey was conducted targeting apartment management companies in the top 100 and a field study on public facilities was conducted targeting chief directors and managers of individual housing facilities to look into public facility utilization methods, problems with public facility management, demands of residents, and utilization situations. Also, the present state of facility utilization and utilization promotion plans were investigated, based on the drawings of facilities collected. As the result, results were found in three respects; 'elements, related to building plans', 'elements, related to utilization promotion', and 'elements, related to facility remodeling, including changes of uses'. In relation to the use of public facilities in the future, a more active communication between managers and users would be needed for planning. Also, there would be a need to provide public facilities for visitors when there are events for both occupants and visitors in order to promote the use of facilities and management companies would have to share information of excellent facility models.

A Study on Determinants of Expenditure in Leisure Culture Consumption Market (레저문화 소비시장의 지출결정요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the expenditure determinants of the leisure goods consumption market. In order to achieve the research purpose, 6597 samples of household trend survey data were used. Tobit model was applied to estimate expenditure determinants. As a result of analysis, expenditure determinants for sporting goods were influenced by marital status, education level, age, number of households, housing ownership and income level. The variables influencing spending on leisure items such as mountain climbing, fishing and hunting items were influenced by gender, marital status, education level, age, number of households, housing ownership and income level. The analysis results can be used as policy data for the establishment of leisure culture. The National Statistical Office's household trend survey is a yearly survey through a nationwide survey, but despite the fact that it is reliable data, it is not possible to apply various variables such as psychological characteristics to estimate consumer expenditure determinants more concretely.   • The elderly are more likely to experience passive emotions such as loneliness, anxiety, and depression due to decreased physiological function and low participation in social activities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to seek how to apply biophilic design from a healing perspective considering mental health to the residential space for the elderly. Biophilic design has a positive effect on the psychological stability of human being and the creation of a human-centered environment that provides various benefits to people's health through the combination with natural elements. The method of this study is as follows. First, survey tools are developed by reviewing literature related to biophilic design and planning factors in housing. Second, we conduct the survey around mental health status and preference of applying biophilic design patterns to the elderly and pre-elderly. Third, we propose a plan to apply biophilic design patterns in houses based on the analyzed results. The biophilic design pattern covered in this study is meaningful in that it seeks clues, the housing plan to create healing environment for the elderly with the nature friendly view.

A Study on the Demand Characteristics and Influence Factors Affecting Shared House in Korea (국내 쉐어하우스 수요특성 및 영향요인 분석)

  • This study examined the special features and domestic status of the shared-house from the increasing number of single-person households, and also studied demand characteristics of the shared-house targeting young single-person household. Moreover, it found affecting factors of residential inclination on the shared-house with the binary logic model. Some of field research and interviews for the survey were conducted, and the analyzed result from this study as follows: Firstly, the domestic shared-house, introduced between the end of 2012 and early 2013, has been rapidly increased and has some features such as decreasing in housing expenses and increasing in social interaction. Secondly, the demand for shared-house by residential experience of single-person household differs according to the demographic characteristics. Thirdly, the factors that affect residential inclination of shared-house are character types, community life experience, awareness, and need for shared house.
