  • The purpose of the study was to analyze the constraints that are normally experienced before moving in the context of the household characteristics of households that had recently moved to newly-built apartments. The data for the analysis was collected through a self-administered questionnaire from July 1, 2008 to August 10, 2008. The sample consisted of 251 households in Ulsan living in an apartment complex who had moved within a year. The data from the sample was analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and analysis of variance with Duncan's multiple range tests. The results are as follows. The constraints were categorized into information gathering, attractive housing characteristics, expectations of residential mobility, housing development and policies, and resources. Overall, the constraints did not have a huge impact on the performance of the residential mobility of the sample households. Resources, however, were the most influential factors among the five constraints followed by attractive housing characteristics, information gathering, etc. The constraints varied based on the demographic characteristics, such as the household size, duration of marriage, age of the household head, and the socio-economic characteristics, such as the education level of the household head, household income, and the number of mobility. As the number of family members increased, the age of the household head went up, or the level of education went down, the constraints on information gathering were affected in terms of performing residential mobility. Households with a middle aged head with a professional occupation were more constrained by the attractive characteristics of the housing. The impact of the resources related constraints was significantly different based on the number of family members, marriage duration, and the household head's age and occupation, and the number of mobility.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze empirically the tendency of household consumption expenditure according to the change of social and economical condition, and the factor which influences consumption expenditure of urban household. The data used in analysis are time-series. The data are statistic form Urban Household Economy Survey published by the Economic Planning Board, dating form the first quarter of 1970 to the fourth quarter of 1989. The income of household and consumption expenditure materials were deflated as consumer price index to exclude the influence of prices and the influence of household composition are considered to deflated as the size of the household under assumption of homogeneity. The consumption expenditure items were categorized to 12 relatively large range items. The time-series data were analyzed by using the Two Stage Least Squares and the Ordinary Least Squares. The following is the result of analysis. 1) Rather than the income increase of previous years. the average income increase for two years influences more significantly on consumption expenditure of household. In the case of influence on consumption expenditure for each item by increase in disposable income, such categories as furniture and utensils. clothing and footwear, housing, medical care, culture and recreation, and transportation and communication have significant influence. 2) Among consumption expenditure categories, the increasing factors were furniture and utensils, and clothing and footwear. And the decreasing factors were housing, medical care, culture and recreation ,and transportation and communication. The relative prices, however, had significant influence on categories such as housing, furniture and utensils, medical care , culture and recreation, and transportation and communication and all of them were the decreation factors. 3) Among with changes of social and economical conditions, miscellaneous showed the highest increase in marginal propensity to consume and foods was the lowest. Also culture and recreation and housing brought up a great change of the income elasticity of demand.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the wearing practice and the purchasing characteristics of household rubber gloves in order to obtain the product demands for quality improvement. The effects of wearing time per day and demographic characteristics on those were evaluated. A questionnaire was developed and administered to 494 housewives. Statistical tests such as descriptive analysis, crosstabs, factor analysis, one-way ANOVA, were used to analyze the data. The results indicated that housewives were largely divided into two groups according to the wearing time per day. One group wore gloves more than 3 hours a day, while the other wore less than 3 hours. We found that there were significant differences in the wearing practice and the purchasing characteristics between these two groups. It showed that the quality improvement of household rubber gloves should be achieved in a point of view of the comfort feeling and easiness in wearing and taking off. The housewives showed positive attitude toward pliability and necessity, while negative altitude toward dryness, comfort and mobility in wearing. The household rubber gloves were identified as the necessities which is so familiar and common that only a few of demographic characteristics have effect on.

  • The maintenance cost depends on various factors such as building volume, floor area, number of household and so on. The maintenance cost of the apartment housing is affected by the maintenance type, building physical factor, sociogeographic aspects. Among these, the maintenance characteristics is represented and made up by the total floor area and number of household which means main factor to provide the building scale roughly. In this paper, it aimed at modelling the estimation function of the maintenance cost with the total floor area and number of household and analyzing the elasticity of the two factors. Although items of maintenance cost are various in general cost, repair cost and so on, we classified these items into the 5 categories. 5 categories are a general cost, a facility maintenance cost, a utilization cost, insurance and sanitary cost. The estimation function used a power function and it has better goodness-offitness than any other estimation methods in statistics. A power function has a three curve types with concave and convex and linear style to the origin.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the factors influencing participation intention in urban agriculture. The theoretical foundations of the study were Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Pine and Gilmore's Experiencel Economy. The type of household composition was set as the moderating variable between these independent and dependent variables. In order to test the research model, hierarchical regression analysis was conducted on 439 effective respondents. The empirical analysis results are as follows. Educational experience factors, escapist experience factors, attitudes, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control, which were set as independent variables to positive (+) influence participation intention in urban agriculture. In addition, the impact of their influence relationship was as follows : perceived behavioral control > attitudes > escapist experience factor > subjective norm > educational experience factor. On the other hand, as a result of analyzing the moderating effect according to the household composition, there was a significant difference in the effect of educational experiences, escapist experiences, and subjective norm on participation intention in urban agriculture. Significant results were not tested on the moderating effects between attitudes, perceived behavioral control, and participation intention in urban agriculture. Based on the results of this empirical analysis, academic and practical implications were presented.

  • This study examines the relationship between the concern about well-being lifestyle and the perceived image of Hanji fiber. A survey was conducted among male and female consumers aged 20 and over in Jeonju and Daejon from January 4th to 11th, 2008. A total of 168 responses were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and ANOVA via the SPSS ver. 12. As a result, four factors were determined in the concern for a well-being lifestyle; product consumption, enjoying culture, using therapy and managing the household. The perceived image of Hanji fiber were classified into four elements; traditional, high-quality, functional and popular images. Among the factors of the concern for a well-being lifestyle and the perceived image of Hanji fibers, a partial relationship was observed. There is a positive relationship, especially between the product consumption factor of a well-being lifestyle and the high-quality and functional image of Hanji fiber. Also, there was a positive relationship between the factor of managing the household and the traditional image of Hanji fiber. However, the therapy interest factor of a well-being lifestyle was negatively related to the traditional image of Hanji fiber.

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm a structural relationship on factors affecting ratio of public transportation spending to a car-owning household's total transportation expenditure. For this purpose, informations of household's attributes and activities were gathered using the 13th Korean Labor and Income Panel Study (KLIPS), and information of land-use and transportation conditions on their residential locations was collected and processed. A structural equation model (SEM) on determinants affecting ratio of public transportation expenditure was constructed, based on an execution result of factor analysis using the analyzing database. The latent variables were derived as land-use/transportation characteristic, household's attribute and household's activity. In the analyzing result of the SEM, the entire latent variables were significant. And, the first two latent variables had positive influences, and the last latent variable had a negative impact. To promote public transportation use of the car-owning households, this study suggests that the policies such as enhancement of convenience in public transportation use for the household's activities and improvement of the land-use/transport conditions are required.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how the mother's educational aspirations and household's characteristics have an effect on the likelihood of private educational expenditures and the amount of private educational expenditures. Factor analysis, probit and tobit analyses were used. The main findings can be summarized as the following: The mother's educational aspirations for intrinsic values is higher than for extrinsic values. The mother's educational aspirations for extrinsic values, household's assets, and residing in Seoul rather than residing in Incheon had significant positive effects on the likelihood of private educational expenditures. However, the child's birth order had a significant negative effect on the likelihood of private educational expenditures. The mother's educational aspirations for extrinsic values, the mother's education level, household's income, household's assets, and residing in Seoul rather than residing in Incheon had significant positive effects on the amount of private educational expenditures. However, the child's birth order had a significant negative effect on the amount of private educational expenditures. Findings from this study offer several implications. First, the mother's educational aspirations for extrinsic values rather than for intrinsic values has an effect on private educational expenditures. Unless the mother's educational aspirations have been changed to pursuing intrinsic values, the private educational expenditures cannot be reduced. Second, the polarization of the household's income and assets could bring about the polarization of private educational expenditures, which can lead to the intergenerational income polarization.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of household income, education needs, private education expenses and expenditures of preparation for old age for mothers of school-aged children and to discover the causal relationships among these variables. The subjects in this study were gathered from among 393 mothers living in Daegu with school-aged children from 8 to 19 years old and with wage-earner husbands. The research tool was a questionnaires which addressed the general characteristics of the subjects, household income, the scale of education needs, the scale of private education expenditures, the scale of perceived burden of private education, and the scale of expenditures of preparation for old age. In order to analyze the study data, factor analysis, and regression analysis using SPSS were used, and structural path analysis using AMOS was used. The main results of this study were as follow: First, the greater the household income, the greater the education needs. Second, household income and education needs had no significant influences on private education expenditures. Third, education needs and private education expenditures turned out to have significant effects on the perceived burden of private education expenditures. Fourth, expenditures of preparation for old age among mothers of school-aged children was influenced by the education needs, private education expenditures and perceived burden of private education expenditures. The household income of mothers of school-aged children had no significant influence on private education expenditures. Finally, education needs, private education expenditures and perceived burden of private education expenditures for mothers of school-aged children had a direct effect on the expenditures of preparations for old age. On the other hand, in mediating education needs, household income of these mothers had an indirect effect on expenditures of preparations for old age. The perceived burden of private education expenditures turned out to have the biggest total effect on the preparations for old age of mothers with school-aged children.
